I think SERPAs caught a bad rap by that guy who shot himself in the thigh using one, because he was way too focused on speed rather than accuracy or efficiency of movement and motion. Do it the right way slow at first, then speed up once you get the muscle memory.

Bro ive been saying for years that Blackhawk T-Series L2C , Level 2 ir Level 3 were more functional than Safariland. Especially with 10-8 Performance QLS ADAPTER . I do wish they would make the Blackhawk T-Series for more pistol models or make an Omnivore Tseries. Blackhawk T-Series L2C is perfect holster for P320 X5 LEGION when it comes to shoot 2Gun or 3Gun Matches .

Until I picked up an IWB holster for my Sig, I've used the T-series for OWB conceal carry and it wasn't really noticeable unless I was doing a lot of physical work. I've never served or used it in any professional way but as an OWB option for civilians like me, it was great.

Current Leo here and have been using the T SERIES L3D for a few years now. Whether it be wrestling a combatant, rolling in mud/ dirt, inclement weather, or a real life firefight; this holster has never let me down. And no one has been able to gain control of my sidearm unless I’ve shown them how and actually stood there to let them. I have used and do still own Safariland holsters and still think they are a great choice. However, I think people get hung up on “what has always worked”. This holster is far better for me in every way since I’ve started using it. May not be for everyone but I wish people would stop making up excuses and and false allegations about this holster to justify their Safariland purchase. Again if it works better for such and such person then use it, but this holster is just as well designed and will not “break” because of weather or a simple tug on the firearm. Just my 2 cents

I've never heard of a Blackhawk SHERPA Holster.... I'm pretty sure that they meant the Blackhawk SERPA Holster. I remember alot of guys havin those things (SERPA Holsters) when I was in, hell, I even had a few of them. I kinda switched over to the Safariland ALS or ALS/SLS Holsters, mainly because of the ability to use a light. The SERPA holsters due to their design will not allow you to use a standard light like a TLR-1HL or an X300, you had to use their lights and it was specific to whether you were left or right handed. The light was awkward because it was offset to the inside (i.e. right handed offset to the left, left handed offset to the right) and apparently they weren't bery bright, although considering the brightest light at that time was I wanna say like 300lms.
@dustin38386 ай бұрын
If you're used to it thats cool and all, but the Serpa having the retention release positioned so that your finger is pushing down right over the trigger when you draw is an inherently bad design. We never had issues with them but that's despite the design, not because of it.

@bradleyfennell68707 ай бұрын
I’ve used the T Series and Safariland Level 3s for a while. The Safariland is what I use to judge against every other holster, and I think that the T series is a good holster for the LEO realm. It’s secure and, at this point, isn’t well known, so people aren’t gonna know how to defeat the retention device at first glance unless they’ve had experience with it first hand. The draw is also faster, and as LEO, that’s important because it’s usually the only weapon you have on you, and you have to get to it as quickly as possible. Any delay is going to cost you when you don’t have the initiative in a violent scenario. I also like how lightweight it is, but I feel like it’s a little less durable than your standard Safariland, which I have beaten the crap out of and never had issues. For a military context, I would prefer the Safariland just because I know it can take a real beating, and I should either have a rifle or be able to fight my way to a rifle/bigger gun. I’m also confident enough in my draw that if I need it, I can get to it fast enough. Ultimately, whatever holster you use, train with it diligently and take care of it, and it will serve you well.
@timothycummins27006 ай бұрын
I’ve run the serpa, als, and the t series on duty. Even as bad as the serpa was, it was still more than doable. The t series was fine, but the ALS still takes the cake hands down, at least for me. The t series seems to encourage a lower and weaker grip on the gun. The als forces you to get nice and high, and seemed far more secure and durable.

@justavillain7 ай бұрын
I have ran a Blackhawk T for my P320 and I was able to get it to activate the light when you twist and move like in a ground fight. Will this cause the p320 to shoot with out an intentional trigger pull? Maybe. The omnivore is pretty neat for range use it will take “any” pistol that has the tlr or sure fire. I use mine with a 226 the 320 and an M&P 2.0
@jonp5760Ай бұрын
I'm going to assume you're using a TLR 1/2 pistol light. The reason your light turned on is because the holster's retention locks onto the light not the actual pistol. It hooks onto the bottom left side of the light on the flat spot just below the activation switch. With enough movement it could push up on the switch and turn the light on. I wouldn't worry about it making the gun go off, the retention is below the trigger guard. Also, the more the retention finger pushes on the switch, the more bite it's getting on the light, actually making it more secure.

I was a Gunner’s Mate petty officer and SAMI in the navy. Back then we didn’t have Serpa’s. Military you typically carry condition 2 or 3. They mentioned not carrying a loaded weapon on base. As a police officer, I worked with a deputy who carried a Serpa for his 1911, who said I was a safety manifest because I carried a KaBar Karambit knife behind my mag pouch. Then I tell him “dude, you’re carrying a 1911, locked and loaded, condition 1 in a Level 1 holster with barely any retention on patrol! Anyways, I carried many Serpas for Glock, SigP226, 1911, never had a N.D. Exactly, keep your booger picker off the bang switch, stupid! Me, myself, & I; I love my Safariland ALS level 3’s. They make me feel good and safe and muscle memory I have dropped that hood and clicked the frame lock thousands of times. That Blackhawk, to me, just looks like they took the ALS from Safariland. Is it a lot cheaper than a Safariland? And there’s no drop down hood on it. Granted if you’re not doing police work, all the extra weapons retention may not be (your) concern.

Been carrying this for years at work(not by choice). I didn’t like them from the start when my keys came out of my pocket in the car and stuck in the exposed mechanism preventing me from drawing. On top of that the retention screw on most of our officers holsters has to be removed completely to function at all. I also found at sub zero temps it becomes difficult to draw sometimes causing me to fight the gun out of the holster. Definitely not ideal. Plus the mechanical retention off the light is a big fail in my opinion.

Can TH confirm if this fits the Sig P320 compact? Does this retention holster require the light? Thanks for th video.
@jonp5760Ай бұрын
I have the level 3 version of this holster for the P320 with TLR-1 light. I can confirm that it fits the full size and compact just fine. This holster does require a light. The retention locks onto the light, not the pistol itself. They also sell this in a non-light bearing version if you don't want to carry a light on the pistol.

“It’s not the holster’s fault.” Ok, true, BUT, having a design that greatly increases the likelihood for a finger to end up inside the trigger guard is not effectively taking human factors into account, and that’s not getting into other issues like how easily the Serpa release mechanism can become locked up due to debris. Ultimately, the only benefit the Serpa brings to the table is being cheap, and people love putting $500+ guns in $30 holsters for some reason. (Check out the exhaustive study FLETC did on the Serpa release mechanism prior to banning its use on their ranges.)
@concernedcitizen28986 ай бұрын
No reason any range should ban a Serpa. Also if anyones getting shot it would be the user so no danger to anyone else, AND the danger for the same negligent discharge can happen using other holster designs, so thats pretty much a dumb policy.

Using the trigger finger to defeat retention is a problem with the Serpa design but another real issue with the Serpa is debris can get into the retention device and completely lock your gun into the holster. Research that issue and you’ll see the Serpa has failed during training where there was a ground fight that led to a shooting scenario and debris hard locked the gun into the holster making it unusable in the moment.
