The Vault was released in the small light configuration specifically to reduce the size of the opening that would allow object to activate the trigger while holstered. They needed to catch up to Rapid Force who worked with Sig directly to produce a version of their holster that does the same thing. (slightly different from the one you have) (these were both responses to the "my 320 spontaneously fired" incidents) The Blackhawk T series has them both beat in that area when dealing with full size lights. We tested the crap out of the Rapid Force holster, the Safariland holster and the T Series. The Rapid Force won hands down. They are extremely durable and easy to use. The deciding factor was their defensability. When defending a holstered gun from a gun grab, it takes very little effort to keep pressure on the hood assembly of the Rapid Force, preventing the gun from being taken. Both the Safariland and the Blackhawk were much more difficult to defend. The hanger for the Rapid Force is designed to be unscrewed, positioned and clamped in place. It prevents the movement that can be experienced with hangers that just thread in place. The holsters designed for small lights were of questionable value for duty use until recently. The TLR7 doesn't have enough punch for duty use. The new TLR7 HL-X and the Foxrot2R have addressed that problem by offering respectable output and sufficient candella for duty.

When you say the other 2 holsters were difficult to defend, do you mean they were easier for the adversary to defeat? Was that due to their hood design or something else?

The Vault is a garbage can of a holster. 1 in terms of size and 2 in terms of function. They’re pulling them out of the injection molding too fast and the holster is collapsing on itself slightly causing too tight of a fit. Also, yeah the trigger is more covered on this version because it’s the single battery version. Alien gear has the same single battery version with significantly less space. Plus the alien gear full size v3 has a reworked mold covering more of the trigger at more of a 90° angle. Michigan State Patrol is running it. V3 also has a mounting spot for the Axon signal.

I've tried just about all of them over the years . IMO Blackhawk T-Series is my personal favorite. They recently started offering more models . I use Blackhawk T-Series L2C for 2Gun when using X5 LEGION or L2C Light Bearing for my XR920 with TLR7A . Obviously it's all preference. I'm using Dara Level 2 for my CZ S2 when using in Running and Gunning 2Gun Matches . Not really a fan of the Dara but it gets the job done .

How is the fit on your Blackhawk? I have the L3D for Glock 17 and Sig P320 both with TLR1 lights. I want to like the holster, but on both, I can grab the guns by the grip and pull down enough to completely bypass the rotating hood without much force. I've tried tightening the adjust screw down tight enough that I can't pull the gun out, but it's still loose. I know the main retention is the light lock, but why design a holster that someone can easily defeat one of its retention systems? I can use my Beretta 92X in the Glock holster and it holds it rock solid, like I feel the glock should be when holstered in it.

@jonp5760 I only have experience with L2C and L2C Light Bearing. Absolutely 0 fitment issues with Glocks / Glock TLR7A and P320 X5 .

@@seanwhite304 That's good to hear, thanks for replying. The l3d is just the l2d with the rotating hood installed, everything else is the same. I think that my issue might be that the holster is cut to use the tlr1 &2, which has a laser module attached to the bottom of the light body. I think this is where the extra movement is coming from. Theres a a lot of space under the TLR1. I guess I'll call blackhawk and see what they have to say.

Just a heads up on the trigger guard coverage. Yours is a first iteration (my first run has that poor coverage too) but I have a 2nd iteration and the trigger guard coverage does exactly as you said and is higher before dropping down. On the 320 model.

The alien gear is superior in almost every way. the adjustability right out of the bag is awesome, they are much faster to draw, have less issues with guns being able to be drawn without breaking retention. There are multiple different drop height options, the belt slides are tight so it doesn't flop around like the safariland will, and the safariland adapter works fine. I have quite a bit of time on both and the safariland has gone in the trash where it belongs

Not sure the rapid force is quite as dominate as you make it sound. The 6000 series is still the gold standard across the globe. It’s just nice for people to have options.

Ran a safari land for 5 years. Really didn’t like how easy rocks can get into it and slow down the actions and make them a pain to manipulate as fast as you want. I’ve ran an alien gear rapid force for 4 years. The level 3 has ran perfect, the quick release I’ve had 1 of 3 fail on me (kept it in my truck and it got exposed to soda and kids shakes excet). The level 2 alien gear is too open and gets as jammed as a safariland can. I haven’t carried one of those newish Blackhawks, but the cops I’ve trained with whose department has them use really like it. My current favorite is the comp tac I got for my PDP which I have on an alien gear adapter to use the a commonality with my duty holster and or belt.

I own a few AG 👽 & Safariland ALS level ll holsters. To me for duty or range uses, I'd say SL. The level ll Alien Gear is not bad but the QC, secure fit is better with Safariland.

I want to get one for my P320, but there website isn't showing them anymore. I need to call and see what happened to them.

What pistol setup do you have to run an active retention holster? Safariland can go up to 5" barrels. At the moment, Alien Gear's Lvl V3 duty holsters only go up to 4.25" holsters, comes in two colors, and currently make for GLOCK, Sig P320's, and M&P 2.0's.

All depends on your use. The make a solid holster. I’m not a huge fan of the belt mounting. And they are a little boxier than Safariland. It’s really a preference thing.

can confirm the LONG delay for certain pistols. even more so if youre a lefty. M&P holsters in lefty are not offered, but they are available for righty. with more time, as they have more options available, they will have a shot at cornering the market IMO.

I am frustrated because I have a Shadow Systems DR920 Elite with threaded barrel, HS507, SF X300 and finding a drop leg has been super difficult. I ordered a Safari 6304RDS only to find out after I got it that they don’t do/fit threaded or compensated pistol holsters 😖, so back to square one

The safariland 6000 series does in fact work without lights and red dots. I have a 6378 rds for glock 19, 6360 for beretta apx, and 6034 for beretta m9a3. None of them require the use of the light. Lights make indexing, and fitment better, but they are not required to hold the weapon. As for as this vault is concerned, I'd rather just get a 7000 series.

@mayo5173 To each their own, either one is good. The ones l have listed will work without lights, but, they are harder to index the gun in the holster. Safarilands do take a lot of practice to index anyways though. Mine haven't been wobbly, but as soon as they are free of the locking mechanism, they are free of the holster. With a light, once they are free of the lock, they still have to come out the top to be fully free. My beretta m9a3 holster doesn't have a lock on it, it has a friction ridge that rides under the slide, so it really doesn't care about the light. My trick is to put the gun in, with the light riding the bottom of the holster till it clicks in. With out a light, put in, and ride the top. My personal recommendation, if it is for recreation is a black hawk omnivore, they have one model that has a rail attachment only, another that takes streamlight, and another for surefire. For serious use, stick with safariland or alien gear. Both should have non light models as well, if you know you don't want a light.

Quick update, since l was at work when commenting, the reason they do work without a light, is because of the barrel plug. Two out of three have a barrel plug, and ejection port locks, holding the gun securely. The third being the m9a3, holds tension via two plastic slides that go on the frame, under the slide. However, that holster does not have a locking mechanism. It is a surplus military holster I got, the only lock is friction and the sls hood, it does not have the ALS system on it. My 6378 for glock 19, with rmr, and tlr1, actually works with all that and tlr 7, if that is a consideration.

I have an AG RF Drop Leg Holster for my SS DR920 Elite. I like it. However, I need to figure out how to get the strap tighter. I have the dynamic drop leg as well with the taq-strap. I might just switch it to that one. I ordered the Dynamic for my mags to get them off my belt since I don't currently have a vest. However, they have nothing for the dynamic besides the mags. So, the triangular mounting area is just empty. So I'm just going to switch my mags back to on-belt carry. So, I'm not sure what the point of the dynamic one is for. My trigger is the same. Has that little gap. However, these guns will wriggle around until there is a light on it. (I don't currently have a light or sight yet). My holster was ordered in February 2024. Glock 17. The Vault just looks weird. Like an actual alien holster. The Rapid Force looks way better.

My absolute favorite pistol is the beretta 92 series. I would LOVE to carry my beretta 92X on duty, but there just aren't any decent duty holsters for it. I did find that the Blackhawk L3D for the glock 17 works with the Beretta and TLR1 - IF - you have a wilson combat single side, low profile safety installed. It would probably be fine using this setup on duty, but I just can't make myself carry a pistol in a holster not specifically designed for it.

I have a vault for a Glock 17 with x300. I know when it first came out over the summer it only had the small lights but now you can have the large ones. I absolutely love mine, it’s been through multiple training classes so far and is broken in. I personally would trust that as a duty or training holster more then the 6000 or even 7000 series.

I can only imagine that you must not have much time on active retention holsters. The vault does nothing the current 6000 series holster do not or the 7TS for that matter. It’s simply a way for Safariland not keep up with alien gear. And no a vault is no where near the holster the 6000 series has been the gold standard for the last 30 years.

@@plb2455 the trigger gaurd coverage is hype. If you actually test this with a 6000 series holster you will see only a child’s finger get in there. Trigger gaurd coverage was a buzz word to try and push the original 7TS holsters. The beefed up part comes from the previous failures of the 7000 series. And Safarilands need to chase alien gear. I have had guys send in 6000 series holsters that were used over 15+ year career. With zero issues other than daily wear. The vault for any of the weapons the officer it in does bother better than the 6000 series light and red dot compatible holsters Currently offered.

@@RahGzz90 actually it’s not. A level 3 holster is a holster with 1. A shell 2. A mechanical retention device 3. A manual retention device. Kydex holster makers don’t offer a true Level 3. They offer a friction retention with a spring loaded or manual bale. Once the bale is down the pistol is not under any type retention other than friction.

I've had one for quite a few years. Its great if you shoot different guns, because just about everything will fit in it. In my opinion it is a range only holster. They way it locks onto the light is pretty weak compared to their T series holsters and I wouldn't trust it in the least to hold the gun in a grab attempt.

What all these holster makers need to take into account is ergonomics and modularity to fit all officers . The other issue I see is that these holster ride too far out from an officers body. I see this as a leverage and snag point. I have yet to see the perfect holster unless manufacturers get with officers who have been on the street more than 25 years. 🧐🧐🤔🤔🤨

Not really. I've been a Deputy for a long time, and when I say shit can go south in a hurry I mean it. I'm not always on a call when this happens either. In the last few years, it's getting more and more common to be approached by random people who want to start problems just because I'm a cop. I haven't had to thankfully, but a few people on the force have had to pull their pistols in a situation like this and haven't had time to reach down to push the button on the body cam. Having it turn on automatically upon clearing the holster would have been a big plus for these situations.
