BLACKJACK'S FINAL YEAR • TYPHOON DISPLAY PILOT 'TURBO' DEMONSTRATES FLAT DISPLAY AT RAF CONINGSBY

On the 28th May 2021, Typhoon ZJ914 was revealed to the world with a new shakedown livery, famously known as Blackjack. Flt Lt James Sainty not only took Blackjack for the maiden flight, but took our Sqn Ldr Ted Coningsby on the maiden flight too! This is Blackjack's final year as she is an old airframe, a Tranche 1 and will be retired at the end of this year. This is Turbo's display from the 7th May 2024.
This year’s RAF Typhoon Display pilot is Flt Lt David ‘Turbo’ Turnbull. We normally expect to hear callsign ANARCHY1 when it comes to the RAF Typhoon display pilot, however, this year, the display pilot's callsign is "TURBO"! Well, if there was a callsign available that had your nickname, you’d surely take it. The callsign is actually from RAF LOSSIEMOUTH’S 6 Squadron and Turbo has borrowed it from them for the year which mean 6 Squadron are without this callsign.
Flight Lieutenant David "Turbo" Turnbull is this year's RAF Typhoon Display pilot and he has already produced a particular sequence that will wow the crowds. The slow aileron roll into the max alpha is a signature manoeuvre from Turbo! He is becoming one of the best Typhoon display pilots of all time. With a hard deck of 100ft, let's ride!

Sadly, all good things come to an end and not only display liveries have a life span of 3-4 seasons, the airframe of Blckjack is a Tranche 1, which is the oldest in the inventory. Turbo our "Superbo" takes our legendary Blackjack through her tremendous paces. Viewing Turbo's practice display is "off the scale!" magnificent. Heart stopping & jaw dropping & that's not only the Max Alpha manoeuvre! Turbo, I said 6.0, 6.0, 6.0, 6.0, 6 .0 - that's for the magnificent impression. Airshows, you ain't seen nothing yet, beware Turbo is in the building ❤️

Watching the evening display at Bournemouth was one of the first times I saw Blackjack, and from that moment on, that paint scheme just made my heart swell. They say you never forget your first, and although Moggy is a very fitting paint scheme, my heart belongs to Blackjack

I will be gutted to see her go. Blackjack was my 1st jet I witnessed with TCS. One of the most photogenic of liveries. Turbo really does make her dance. Strictly Come Turbo dances the finale! Poetic, effortless and just seems too float. Turbo giving her a fitting final year doing what she set out to do. Make you fall in love with the Typhhon. Second another comment here, Moggy and Blackjack displaying together. A sight of dreams..

Yes, so the only time it will have fuel in it would be for transiting (to airshows etc)

So I was walking my dog this afternoon in the middle of nowhere Cambridgeshire, I happen to notice a jet coming towards me at an almost perfect perpendicular angle. I can see it's considerably lower in altitude than you might expect and also, not on a flight path I've seen other planes take. It gets rapidly closer and I can tell it's a Eurofighter, it screeches over me, like directly over me at not many hundreds of feets at all. I saw the underneath decal and thought to myself, no way, I think I might know that pilots name having seen Turbo's flying on this very channel. However, now I'm home and watched this, I think it was a different livery that I saw, I feel like the one I saw was not symmetrical and had a circular shape on one side. So possibly not Turbo, but possibly a Eurofighter pilot high tailing it to a show maybe? Either way, was pretty cool having that precise of a personal flyover.

The only thing we can think of is that it was a Rafale which was (planned at least) displaying at Duxford. Similar looking aircraft

@@TedConingsby Just found that display, I don't think it was that one, the one I saw had mostly British army green. At least that's what my memory is telling me, I could have whipped my phone out if I was thinking a bit quicker but I was caught in the moment.

Any livery whether BBMF or Typhoon is worn for 4-5 seasons. It is not only Blackjack’s final season but the ZJ9 airframe is a tranche 1, the old airframe and has reached its expiry sadly
