About ten years ago on a peaceful evening I was driving home on a back road in the East Yorkshire Wolds, then from nowhere came this tremendous roar, my car started shaking and I thought it was going to explode. Then, I briefly saw the Typhoon which very rapidly went into a vertical climb and just disappeared. I'm sure the pilot was using me as target practice as a laugh, he was that low over my car. Felt very privileged and will never forget it.

A fine Saturday morning shake down with A Typhoon aka Moggy and David 'Turbo' Turnbull. This I think today is where the Legend of Turbo is etched forever, here.. From the moment Turbo and Moggy taxi, shining brightly in the sun its a picture and we know something special is about too happen. Straight in with a magic swooping roll. We now getting to see moves and intricacies not witness with other Typhoon. Blackjack put through the mill, pushing the airframe too the limits. Slow roll towards camera 7:15 is a real beauty. The signature slow roll into the Max Alpha, the serenity of it all. Not for Turbo no doubt, that cockpits alive! Such a deft of touch. How to fall in love with a Typhoon in less than 17 minutes. ❤. 9:50 with one of my favourites that Inverted flypast into a climb, breathtaking! Sublime and the elegance of it all. Spluffage surrounds this dart we call Moggy! 12:16 climb and roll just effortless. 13.:12 Swoops low into another captivating inverted flypast. Turbo take a bow, rapturous applause. Yep the Legend of Turbo is written. Into land for a well earned drink after parking Moggy in the garage 👌👍🫡😉 Now that's a Demo! Excellently captured there Ted and Nikos..

As mentioned in the description of this video: “The Royal Air Force made history on the 22nd April 2024 by revealing their new Typhoon display livery for 2024. It has been 3 years since the last livery was produced, with the all famous and much loved ‘Blackjack’, which flew the Union Flag Livery. Today, at RAF Coningsby, the new livery was revealed on a very wet day. As it is the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy this year, the theme to the Typhoon’s livery was given this honour. The new livery is painted in the Hawker Typhoon scheme with 257 Squadron markings which includes the squadron markings which was FM, Camo and D-Day (or invasion) Stripes. The black and white stripes are what are known as D-Day or Invasion stripes. These stripes were to help identify friendly aircraft from enemy aircraft. The yellow slats on the leading edges of the wings also played a similar purpose to help identify allied aircraft. D-Day was a joint operation and with many countries such as Canadian, American and British involved, being hit by enemy fire would be a risk, so the D-Day stripes would help identity friendly aircraft. Though one thing to point out is that Hawker Typhoon had the black and white stripes before D-Day to not get mistaken for the Bf 109’s. On D-Day, the specific markings FM-G, the Hawker Typhoon aircraft was flown by Pilot Officer Denzel Jenkins. The Typhoon serial is ZJ913.”

2 of the Coningsby boys were mock dogfighting right over my house today. Their manoeuvrability is incredible: they make F15s look like they're in slow motion. And the noise.......!

Give me an EE Lightning sat up the chuff of a pair of incredulous Harrier Pilots in the hover, he lit his tail pipe and disappeared to FL110. 5mins later he was out of fuel and glided 240miles back to base at Mach 1.4 to Mach 1 before executing a perfect landing, in 1972. Cracked a few windows. And went from the wash, over Windermere and landed at Valley….. only plane ever to catch Concorde.

I’ll be willing to challenge max speed/ climb against the F/15 Eagle.
@MrHistorian1236 ай бұрын
@@davidbaker9089 The Typhoon climbs like a homesick angel. It's thrust:weight ratio is far higher than the F15EX because it's much lighter, so it can climb far faster. However, it's max speed IS less, though planes almost never fly at anything like max speed.
@davidbaker90896 ай бұрын
@@MrHistorian123 still gotta differ. When i discharged F15 still had rate of climb to 10k record and max speed ( for fighter). But there is and will always be a need for speed. Which is why they’re wanting to epuip the SR71 with fighting equipment. Couldn’t you imagine. 2500 mph plane with bullets and bombs. I forget what they’re calling it, other than - - damn. 😳
@MrHistorian1236 ай бұрын
@@davidbaker9089 Given that, at very high speeds, engine damage is more likely and fuel consumption goes through the roof, planes rarely use anything like their top speed. My sports car will do 180mph. Have I ever reached that speed? Nowhere near. Acceleration is more important and the Typhoon's lower mass gives it a massive advantage over the F15.

In 2003 while driving a lonely desert highway in California one of these passed maybe 200 ft overhead, rolled, then went to afterburners, pulled straight up then gone. Next day told my flight instructor (was about to get my instrument cert), told him it was very low, fast with delta wing canards, two big engines but just one vertical stabilizer. He insisted it was not possible (arrogant, but an excellent instructor). Several years later learned it was the Typhoon. My guess it was out of Edwards or China Lake showing the Americans what it could do.
