Couple of comments, hope they help. I do have one of these engines (newer batch). If you have one of the old batch (has black o-rings), you need to get the hi-temp green rings. The black ones fail and let water into the oil. The metal in the oil is normal for run-in period. You'll see that the first four or so oil changes. The issue with the coolant hose: The short one close to the block will leak. What you gotta do is angle the fitting more upward and loop a longer piece. This will reduce the stress angle on the hose. Then use manual wire clips (the kind you twist yourself). That's the only kind that will fit and stay on. As for the oil rings, definitely get them oriented, and make sure the things float free. I think on the newer kits they are better (all of mine were free). There will be always some oil consumption on these things, but getting the rings right will help a lot. Then just run it in, and it'll start sealing better.

I have the new green rings they came with the kit, can you tell me what way the rings are supposed to be as engine diy can’t tell me and it’s not clear in the instructions, is the chamfer at the top or bottom of the piston ? Thanks Steve

@@Blacklamass The chamfer needs to face the top of the piston. I needed to use my iphone camera to take photos that I then needed to to zoom in on to make sure that the oil rings were around the correct way.

a slight bit of metal is normal during run in if its to much metal the oil is sparkely and has a silver sheen

I had to use a magnifying glass to look for the taper on the oil ring, and I also had to hand sand a coupe of the rings to make sure they were free floating in the piston ring groove. mine did leak a little water at first and it smoked also but after about an hr of running it in it stopped using oil and leaking water.

One thing after another. I recieve the replacement Hall sensor and get the spark fixed STILL NOTHING im not sure if its the timing or what. NOW the starter burnt out on me. i have filed a dispute with my bank. i give up with this engine.

if you dont get your engine fixed, dont contact stirlingkit anymore, they will not willingly give you a refund, you will have to go through paypal. Paypal wil be more than happy to help as they are VERY keen on getting people their money back. also in terms of the complete gasket set they said theyd send you, dont expect it top include all gaskets, they sent my my missing intake valves that they said theyd send me 8 of, i got only 6. No note in the package explaining the shortage of quantity, no email explaining why either. on top of that MY PULLEYS WONT EVEN ALLIGN so imyalternator belt is going to shread itself up very quickly now.

Are the rings marked with top, or something simular. piston rings are normaly marked if they have to go a certain way around. if your cooling system is presurising, that is usally a sign of a blown head gasket.

Hey up mate I've only built full size engine's but it is the builder's job to check everything from cleanliness to clearances, Burr's etc. im not knocking you but part's still need checking as the builder is the quality control, sound's like a really shit manual/instructions came with this engine, good luck and thanks for sharing

sorry for the problems you face its not necessary your own fault, although I like what the company is trying to achieve I heard that quality control isn't great and the 4 cylinder was known to total failure of the crank. Hope that you can get it all sorted.

Where is the oil pickup??? 23ml of oil in that sump would have no means of circulation without one.
@frontbum6667 күн бұрын
There is a tube that needs to be be installed into the block, it sucks oil up from the sump, but it needs to be be installed with the V cut in the block and in the right orientation. This shit is completely missing from the the instructions.

Sorry to see your project delayed again , I can't believe how many electric things you got that were duds. Sucks , I have every faith you'll get your v8 fixed , it's so annoying for sure, they need better manuals , you'll get there in the end mate .

I’d suggest getting a good quality watchmakers magnifier. The crank definitely shouldn’t dip into the oil in the pan. If this happens everything goes horribly wrong, as this example of a BSA that wasn’t scavenging oil properly; so slowly filling the crankcase kzbin.info/www/bejne/naPMp5WeeKdlerc

To be fair £1400 is really really cheap you can't have cheap precision it doesn't exist, I would expect to have to fettle every piece to get it right and expect some parts to be out of spec enough to be unusable like ring gaps too big and even then are the materials good enough to be engine parts.

It's disappointing this fault I hope Cison fixes the problem Now I know that Toyan will release a new V8 that I hope will be a good engine But I hope that problem is fixed
