Whoa, The Emperor does have a good villainous resume
@aceotaku9 жыл бұрын
+David Timmer oh that's not the half of it. essentially, the ENTIRE game, the emperor counters your every move, starting with destroying the main characters' hometown, and summoned an army of demons to ensure that his plans were easier to accomplish. In fact, at least according to tvtropes, he's probably among the smartest, if not THE smartest, villains the franchise.

+David Timmer ergo, probably one of the most underrated villains in the series. After all, he is pretty much Chuck Norris: "So you think you can kill me in this fight and send me to hell? Then I'm gonna kill the devil, take over hell, and come back to kick your ass!"

I must say, I'm both mildly surprised and happy that you put Kuja on here. Kuja's usually left in the shadow of Sephiroth and Kefka when it comes to villain popularity among the FF fanbase, but Kuja's actually more badass than either of them. Sephiroth burned a village to the ground but failed in destroying a planet since the Meteor took too damn long. Kefka broke up a planet's continents. Kuja blew up a whole fucking planet in about two minutes.
@BenjaMage9 жыл бұрын
That's entirely true. Plus, out of all three of them, Kuja easily had the best characterization.

+MaverickHunterZero75 Kind of sad that FF5 didn't get any love on this list but then again, not 1 per game rule, your list and most of the bosses were pushovers. Final boss i'll agree was kinda bland but ok in my eyes. Would probably go down to super bosses or maybe atomos for being one of the more challenging main bosses (seriously comet and auto haste? it hurts even when i get to lv 34 before the fight and cast shell on my members). I think neo shinryu (FFV advance) would be a nice honorable mention tough, as he is one of the few bosses that has huge array of attacks (mostly multi hit attacks but also covers a lot of different elements and status effects as well. Also find the 2 hidden targets a unique ability although enuo kinda ripped it off later on.). And yes i know dragon lances completely wreck him but you have to grind them and they are kinda unreliable steals to get too.
@baigandinel79569 жыл бұрын
+ClefairyRox Kefka did not merely break up continents. He eliminated cities such as Vector and Narshe wiping out their whole populations, basically poisoned the world so that animals and plants would die, unleashed ancient evils all over the planet, and only became more powerful from there. He had the world at his feet, and even one of the protagonists worshipping him. In contrast, it is never confirmed that Kuja destroyed an entire planet. How large do you think the blast radius from his Ultima spells really was? Rather, he did destroy the Terrans and damaged the immediate vicinity enough so that the portal could not be entered. But if he destroyed the whole planet it must have been a very small planet indeed.

Final Fantasy 9 was suppose to be a resurrection of the franchise, bringing inspiration from all the previous entries and while also going back to its roots. I think the reason that Necron is the final boss is a callback to Cloud of Darkness from FF3. In FF3, you believe that Xande is the final boss. Everything prior tells you that Xande is the guy you need to beat to make everything right. After you defeat him, completely out of left field, Cloud of Darkness was controlling Xande from behind the scenes the whole time. That's how Necron feels to me. At least in 4, they warn you about Zemus far enough in advance that you then are ready, but Cloud of Darkness and Necron are so forced it isn't funny.

As I've understood the final match of Sephiroth and Cloud is mainly metaphorical. After being defeated, Sephiroth resorts to trying to take control of Cloud like he successfully did before, and the fight is just Cloud resisting and overcoming his Jenova "curse". Final Fantasy seems to like to have those kinds of battle scenes.

Gilgamesh also makes a return as a boss in FF TYPE-0 and in the HD remake. And in that one, he's wielding a weapon that looks like Garland's sword from Dissidia. First off, I agree with you on your thoughts of Zemus/Zeromus in FF IV - he's a royal pain, even in the PS One version (in the mentioned version of said game, I had Edge use the Crystal as he was the quickest; if Rydia wasn't at Level 64 in said version the party was toast). Also, it's refreshing to see that you put the main antagonist from FF II on this list, as there are people who either don't like that entry or aren't as aware of it. In the PS One version of that game, I actually killed the 2nd incarnation of the Emperor in 1.25 (not a typo) after building them up well, as I had 2 Blood Swords & the Emperor did some odd move that did nothing to the party (it's been forever since I played it).

I think there's two bosses from Final Fantasy 6 that deserve a special mention, even though Kefka is definitely the best boss fight in the game. First, Atma Weapon (mistranslation, I know, but it's cooler than the real name). Right off the bat I have to say it has one of the best monster designs I've ever seen, and that definitely works in Atma's favor in the context of the fight. It's the first boss in the game (aside from opera house Ultros) to use something other than the regular boss music, and that along with its pre-battle speech and enormous size gets you to expect hell before it even attacks. When it does attack, it delivers on its impressive initial intimidation with powerhouse moves like quake, mind blast and flare star. It also has way more HP than any other boss up to this point, so you have to put up with Atma's brutal attacks for quite a while. When you eventually pull through and Atma dies, the satisfaction of beating an ancient superweapon can actually be felt. The second boss I think deserves some attention is Guardian in Kefka's tower. The gimmick of the boss taking movesets from previous bosses is noteworthy by itself, but what makes the fight for me is what Guardian was to the player before the fight. Until the encounter in Kefka's tower, this thing was UNSTOPPABLE. Every time you were unfortunate enough to encounter Guardian in the first half of the game, it would annihilate everyone and you couldn't even scratch it. You could beat the Empire's magitek armor, you could prevent their armies from taking Narshe, but no matter what you did the Guardian's presence would mean your only option was to RUN. But now that you've faced the end of the world and gathered the determination to stand against Kefka, you're now strong enough to finally beat the formerly invincible mech. The fight demonstrates the growth of the characters without any need of dialogue.

GET RENZOKUKENED, SWORDCOAT))
@BlitzNexus8 жыл бұрын
AsterOrca Honestly the entire final battle is the best. Maybe I'm just blinded by the amazing music but yeah, fucking loved the final battle with Ultimecia. The sorceress you fight on the moon (I forget her name) was a cool fight to lead on from Seifer.
@Aster_Iris8 жыл бұрын
***** Oh, right! I was just excluding the final boss since that's how most "top ten *insert franchise/topic here* bosses" operate. The fight against Ultimecia is a pretty good one, too (albeit a little frustrating when she starts erasing your magic), and the phase where you fight Griever is really epic (and, of course, the music pieces in each phase are very iconic). By the fight that was a lead-on for Seifer, do you mean Adel? She always gave me a ton of grief, but one gamer's bane is another gamer's thrill. But if you mean the fight against the unnamed sorceresses once you start traveling to the future, which is one of the most bizarre but interesting multi-phased normal bosses I've faced, then that makes sense.

AsterOrca Oh yeah it took me like 20 retries to finally get a strat down to beat her, but that's part of the fun in FF.

***** Oh boy...I remember the first time I fought her, I beat her after the 20-something tries, but then I lost to the next boss because I forgot to switch out a severely underleveled Zell for Rinoa (who is my go-to mage, also explaining another bit of my struggle with Adel) and then got smacked by Ultima before I could get some shells up, and the save circle before that boss glitched up, so I had to fight Adel all over again...I estimate that it took me 43 tries in total to beat Adel on my first playthrough, accidental retry included.

Well, Shantotto's one thing I don't like about Final Fantasy, but there are other things in the series I don't like, as you're gonna find out next month.

+MaverickHunterZero75 Btw have an idea that you could potentially do. Whether you do a mix of these two ideas or separate lists that's up to you. Either way on to the idea and rules for these particular ideas: Top 5/10 Overpowered/Underpowered Spells in final fantasy. Notice the term "Spells" there, it means no summons, abilities and for the sake of being fair, no buffing or stat changing spells (like berserk/haste in FF2). Some other rules that would be nice to implement to make the list more diverse and fair: 1. Since we need something to judge how Overpowered/Underpowered the spell is, Base damage and MP cost will do for the most part. A spell that cost little mp and can do tremendous amount of damage and the opposite fits very well. As an add on, if the spell has any secondary effects like ignoring defence, elemental affinity (or non-elemental) that's also a thing to consider. Not to mention if there is damage split or not when group-cast(unless it always is a group-cast spell). A low cost low damage fire shouldn't be on this list because it isn't really underpowered in terms of MP cost and the base damage is ok for the times it will be used, although it will 90% of the time be outclassed by -ra or -ga spells later on. 2. We need to take into account that bosses should be the damage judges here, since most *regular* enemies tends to die fairly fast from most spells unless they have a certain elemental weakness/resistance, also most bosses tends to resist status effects like death/Petrification and doom or time based spells like stop and slow (albeit not every boss tough). Super bosses shouldn't be excluded since they tend to resist spells even better and thus i think it would be nice to take those into account as well. 3. Remember that unless the spell hits multiple times, the damage will be judged by a *single* cast of the spell. And lastly If the spell is available through an item, how early you can get a spell could also be an variable, although that is entirely up to you. Hopefully i didn't bore you with this wall of text and maybe you could make something out of this.

+MaverickHunterZero75 OK I just came here form your top ten worst final fantasy boss battles, and this is the second time I heard this intro.........I LOVE IT!
@ThundagaT29 жыл бұрын
Actually its implied in FFX that people dont HAVE to be sent by summoners to reach the Farplane. If the person accepts death, then they can ascend to the Farplane on their own. As Yuna suggested the fate of Tidus' mother. Also, they should have had Cloud end the battle with Sephiroth with Omnislash regardless of what happens. If he gets hit first, they should have had him counterattack with Omnislash instead of just a regular attack.

10: Warmech, a boss? Heh, isn't it normally, as TVTropes would say, a Boss in mook Clothing- Oh, I see. It does count. 9: GILGAMESH!! WIELDER OF THE EXCALI...poor?? Also, Enkidu and Gilgamesh... I love references to mythology, Mesopotamian mythology being shown here. True, Final Fantasy overloads the usage, but hey... Mythology is fun! Also... DRAGON QUEST REFERENCE?! GIMME, GIMME, GIMME!!! (I love Dragon Quest more than Final Fantasy.) 8: Black Waltz 3. I enjoyed that battle too. Even the rematch with Steiner and Dagger. 7: Emperor of Hell? What about Heaven? Didn't he conquer too- Ah, So he did. Matteus isn't persistent. He is PersisTENCE. 6: Seymour defines persistence, eh? Must be all that undead... ness. Shame we have to fight a... tick, afterwards... 5: White hair, black heart. Nice work bringing in a moment from the game that is overrated, dingus. (And no joke... it is. Can we stop talking about Aerith's death, please?) 4: I've heard about it before, but I will admit, it's pretty neat. And mad. And I'm not dancing. And why Cefca instead of Kefka? Oh, well... SNES typos were kinda common. 3: Not to this point yet, but he seems like a joy to defeat! Zemus is kind of a dud in terms of villain status, though. Golbez is better. 2: RUBICANTE!!! Can't wait to the REAL Autarch of Flame. Also... He really is honorable. Reviving dead party members if you cast a fire spell? Well... You're a really nice guy! 1: Ah, Kuja... Kuja, Kuja, Kuja... I love to hate that guy... But why Necron?? Huh?!
@aceotaku9 жыл бұрын
+Cook Oliver because fuck proper climaxes! (that was to your statement regarding necron) final fantasy 6 also had a talking purple octopus as a recurring boss, and was actually one of the funnier final fantasies (mostly cause of kefka)
@aceotaku9 жыл бұрын
+Cook Oliver oh forgot to mention, Rubicante is a member of the Four Fiends or wahtever they're called, and eventually you ahve to fight all four. AT THE SAME TIME. or maybe one after the other, not sure which. also, look up hyadains version of the four fiends' theme

I know about the Four Fiends! I played Final Fantasy 4 a good amount, you know. My favorite game in the series as well, with FF 9 as a close second.

Oh my god you never mentioned yunalesca final Fantasy 10 seriously 3 phase battle she makes your characters zombie and heals you to kill you but if you take off zombie she also casts death your immune to the spell if afflicted by zombie plus the scene before the fight makes you the player feel despair that no matter what you can't destroy sin then turn around and decide to fight despair its one of my favorite scenes in all of final fantasy it's really a psyched up scene

Well, if it makes you feel any better, Neo Exdeath was an honourable mention.
@MaskedGuyCh8 жыл бұрын
Only a bit, but Exdeath himself (not Neo Exdeath) deserves a place in a list like this tbh. He was an excellent villain, and that Exdeath vs Galuf fight's gotta be one of my favorite fights in the series, especially considering what happens after it.
