Having played the game recently, if there's something I enjoy about this game is having challenges, which is relatively uncommon for a party game It really pushes you to master each minigame, as opposed to games like mario party in which you can neglect some completely
@PatrickCervantez Жыл бұрын
If there's one thing I can unequivocally say destroyed my self confidence as a child/adolescent/adult was the *"YOU FAIL"* announcement whenever I lost a challenge. ***THIS*** is the reason I chewed through almost six control cables!! I'm surprised I never had my appendix removed because of this because the rage was real with this game. I haven't played it in almost six years, but even with those traumatic memories, I still had a lot of fun with the game... I can't confirm or deny whether or not my nostalgia for the game is a result of Stockholm syndrome because I never fully unpacked those memories in therapy but I did have genuine fun after I unlocked all of the levels. The closest I ever got to completing the game was at least 164%, but 200% was asking too much. My thoughts on the minigames: Ballistix: I was too slow to keep up with the pace of the game even as a kid. The gimmicks didn't trip me up as much as the balls themselves. 4. N. Ballism - This level nearly gave me an embolism a few times. I could usually get the force field when they were in my corners, but N. Gin was a real pain. So much so that it made me contradict myself. lol 3. Sky Balls - Absolutely mid. The crystal challenge gave me a bit of grief but that's it. 2. Crash Ball - This one was fun and I found myself going replaying it the most out of the Ballistix levels. However the crystal challenge brought it down. I don't think I got this crystal until I was an adult. 1. Beach Ball - This level was such a vibe. The music is top notch, the magnet made it really fun, and the backgrounds were perfect. The crystal challenge was also a lot of fun as well. Polar Push: It was alright. Out of all the minigames, this was the most repetitive and tedious to me. 4. Polar Panic - It's perfunctory. It's not hard, but it's also not memorable. 3. Melt Panic - It's got Uka Uka but that's about it. I did feel that drop rate of buffs was a lot lower compared to the other levels though. 2. Manic Panic - Out of all of them this level definitely had the most personality. The aesthetics were great, the bomb mechanic was really creative, and it was fun trying to get all your enemies in foot before beating them. 1. Tilt Panic - I'm ranking this one at the top because of the crystal challenge. I really had a lot of fun with it. Part of me wished that lightning would strike the stage to make it a bit more challenging but that's just me. Pogo Pandemonium: I had *so* much fun with these levels. I would play them over and over in tournament mode, on hard, max rounds. I was the undisputed king of Pogo Pandemonium. 4. Pogo-a-Gogo - Honestly this is only last because of the gem challenge. After the Crash Ball crystal challenge, the Pogo-a-Gogo gem gave me just as much trouble. 3. Pogo Painter - Just good clean fun. Not too easy and not too hard. 2. Pogo Padlock - I love everything about this level. The car shop aesthetic, the padlock mechanic, the bassline that practically defined my childhood, the crystal challenge. This level is just pure nostalgia. And the retro arcade aesthetic for the crystal challenge was the best stage design in the entire franchise. Fight me. 1. El Pogo Loco - It really was hard to choose between this and Pogo Padlock, but this is the level I was probably the best at in the whole game. I remember on numerous occasions scoring over 200 points in this level. This level was so much fun. Crate Crush: I also had a lot of fun on these levels as well. Before I was able to unlock all the minigames this was my second best game mode. 4. Snow Bash - The ice physics was the biggest obstacle in the stage. It was easier to just have the penguin take out the computer players while slide around the edge of the stage taunting everyone. 3. Jungle Bash - Third by default really. Straightforward fun, great aesthetic, and a fun crystal challenge. It was fun having the temple throw nitro at my enemies than directly fighting them. Slight side tangent: I could never tell what was throwing the nitro into the arena. A catapult, a tongue, or a minion. 2. Drain Bash - My favorite Crate Crush level aesthetically. Getting the power ups was always a treat because all of them were absolutely busted. 1. Future Bash - Definitely one of the best levels in the game. What was really fun was trying to get the character models glitch out on this stage because it was the easiest stage to try it on. Also one of the best crystal challenges in the entire game. Tank Wars: These games were really fun once you got the hang of them. I remember being kinda salty when the last two stages had more open space but looking back it did help break up the monotony that did plague the game from time to time. 4. Jungle Fox - The biggest issue I had were those two totem monsters. They had a habit of stealing my kills, it often felt like I won by default whenever the bounced onto the field. The missiles were definitely a blast. 3. Desert Fox - It's a great level. Here by default because it's still rather bare bones. 2. Swamp Fox - Definitely the most creative non-Medieval Mayhem stage. I was so jazzed the first time I unlocked it because it meant I finally unlocked a new tournament mode. 1. Metal Fox - Definitely the trickiest level to navigate. I loved being able to shoot my enemies from a farther distance with the inclusion of the bombs. I think it has an underrated crystal challenge. Crash Dash: 100% pure, liquid ass. These levels felt the most unfinished. The controls were awful, the stunlocking was absolutely cancerous, the arenas were too small. Even if the devs had worked out all the kinks, I don't think these levels were salvageable. 4. Toxic Dash - My pick for worst level in the game. Too many barrels and the goo monster made it 20× worse. 3. Splash Dash - Not as bad as Toxic Dash but that's not saying much. The only thing it's got are the cute fish rides but that give no extra points. 2. Dante's Dash - It's only here by default. This is the last level you unlock and it's a total letdown. 1. Dot Dash - Here by default. Medieval Mayhem: Definitely the most creative levels in the game. It really sucks that these levels weren't unlockable sooner because it would've added some variety early on. 4. Mallet Mash - Here by default. This was a fun level. Especially since it let you take out all your frustrations out on the mushrooms. Another level where I was able to get over 200 points in a single round. 3. Ring Ding - An underrated level for sure. I personally had a lot of fun popping the black balloons because I loved screwing with the entire level. It was chaotic fun for sure. 2. Keg Kaboom - Essentially the same as Mallet Mash but with explosives. I have vivid memories of scoring 500+ points in this level on the regular. It was so fun extending my powder fuse by crossing fuses with my opponents and running in circles to keep the fuse's strength up. It was on par with my beloved pogo levels. 1. Dragon Drop - Definitely the hidden gem of the game. I love the renaissance faire aesthetic, and I had a lot of fun intercepting my enemy's shots then going to back and scoring 5 points in them. I don't remember if I ever got close to scoring 100 points a round, but I remember trying my hardest. Bosses: I had a lot of fun going against the bosses in this game. Yeah, they can be BS sometimes but I felt a huge sense of accomplishment after beating them. I do wish they had made a Boss Rush in tournament mode... it was a real missed opportunity there. 4. Papu Pummel - Definitely here by default. He is harder than in the mainline game, but not by much. 3. Bearminator - A very creative boss fight and definitely the most entertaining Polar Push level. 2. Big Bad Fox - I had a lot of fun with this boss. It felt like I was taking on a battle tower, and with every row of weapons I destroyed I climbed just a little bit higher. Then capping it off with a 2v1 tank fight with the Komodo Brothers was like icing on the cake. Even though it made me rage a lot, the endorphin rush I got from beating them was worth it. 1. Oxide Ride - Hands down the best Crash Dash level because ***NO STUNLOCK!!*** There are a bunch of obstacles and Oxide just dumps nitro out of his ship like he's having a sale but it's still worth it because not only is this the first real look at his home planet Gasmoxia, but it's capped off with a strong Ballistix battle to boot. It took two of the weakest elements of the game and somehow spun gold with. Everything I said about the endorphin rush I got from the Komodo Brothers fight and paste it here a trillionfold. Even though the game drove me nuts in places I still have lots of wonderful memories playing the game. It's a huge part of my childhood and among my top 10 favorite games. Yeah, it has glaring weak points but what game doesn't? As bad as I want a lovingly expanded remake of the game, I don't think it'll ever happen. Overall Level Rankings: 32. Toxic Dash 31. N. Ballism 30. Dante's Dash 29. Splash Dash 28. Papu Pummel 27. Dot Dash 26. Polar Panic 25. Sky Balls 24. Melt Panic 23: Snow Bash 22. Crash Ball 21. Pogo-a-Gogo 20. Bearminator 19. Mallet Mash 18. Jungle Fox 17. Desert Fox 16. Beach Ball 15. Swamp Fox 14. Jungle Bash 13. Metal Fox 12. Manic Panic 11. Drain Bash 10. Big Bad Fox 9. Ring Ding 8. Tilt Panic 7. Pogo Painter 6. Keg Kaboom 5. Pogo Padlock 4. Dragon Drop 3. Oxide Ride 2. Future Bash 1. El Pogo Loco Minigame Rankings: 8. Crash Dash 7. Polar Push 6. Ballistix 5. Tank Wars 4. Crate Crush 3. Medieval Mayhem 2. Bosses 1. @Manic_Panic Жыл бұрын
The vacuum is broken though. You can be losing badly and then suddenly get one, pop a black balloon that turns all balloons into your color and 5 seconds later, you're back to the top, assuming you can avoid being hit. You can jump around and use your attack if they're too close to give you some more extra seconds.
@louieosumo Жыл бұрын
N ballism crystal can be tough too since Ngin only fires the balls at you
@FindingsOfAnArmouredMind Жыл бұрын
About Ring Ding, I'm aware the AI will go after you once you get a power up (like the vacuum for example), but if you want to use it to its fullest (that being until it wears off), you gotta stop jumping to grab the balloons and attack them instead. When you jump to grab the balloons, you automatically leave yourself exposed for the AI to attack you, just don't jump (you'll get the balloons as they fall upon you anyways) and attack the AI as it approaches you instead.

The 3 wins for a trophy is not a big deal since that's the easiest mode and the game's basically preparing you for the harder challenging modes. I think some games like the ballistix ones or the pogo ones could be 2 wins for a trophy due to their length, but the rest are fine the way they are.

So imagine my excitement and honestly, validation at Dingodile actually being a redeemed character in Crash 4. It's been a long 20 years... (Also, I cringed in sympathy at Pogo a Gogo. I never played this, since I got into the franchise with the remakes on Switch. However, having played other party games wanting a piece of that pie, I’m not a huge fan of mini games with no board game to back them. Not that they’re bad without it, moreso just because it feels like something is missing. So an adventure mode is a neat idea on concept that seems to have missed the marked and gone too far with what they ask of you. But hey, that’s just me giving an outsider’s perspective. Also, the Fail montage got a good chuckle out of me. Excellent job, Megan.

Im almost positive that all of the voices in this game are made with a text to speech program. There's just something awkward about the way the lines are delivered.

Fun fact: the Spanish translation for this game was god awful, translating basic stuff like warp room (which should be sala de teletransportacion in Spanish) to sala Guerra (War Room in English), among many other mistranslations. Still, it did help me learn basic English, which then made me look up other things and i ended up learning how to speak English on my own

Might not be the first to say this. But on the original black label PAL release of Crash Bash, there's actually a cheat menu you can access to give yourself all the gems, trophies, crystals, and relics. Essentially unlocking everything from a pause menu, and not even needing to spend any time in any mini games in the campaign mode. Saving you hours to even days trying to unlock everything. Feels satisfying after contending with heinous cheating AI for all the extra challenges. Now if only I can mod my PS2 to play games from any region....

Okay I am not making this up, this game was released on my birthday when I was 2. Some other games released on November 6th include Donkey Kong 64, Kirby Super Star Ultra, Mario Party 2, Team Fortress 2 and probably funniest of all, Manhunt 2

I have very good memories of this game. Adventure mode is so much better on 2 players mode ! Me and my brother had a blast : my brother as the sniper, precise and strategic, me as the chaos master, adaptable and always focused ! I feel so nostalgie right now...

I understand the fact that they needed someone to fit in the Dingodile archetype. And I suppose there was no one to fit it. No one at all... Not an average *Joe* certainly! It's like finding a *Komodo* dragon on the North pole, huh?!

17:51 Fun Fact: There is a cheat code that can actually unlock most of the mini game levels in the Demo Version of Crash Bash in the Spyro : Year of the Dragon game disc

If this was ever to be remade, I think the adventure mode could be easily fixed. Make the trophies 2 rounds instead of 3, get rid of the relic challenges entirely and re-organize the mini games per warp room to make them as less repetitive as possible. Also, lower the gem/crystal requirements to unlock the extra stages for multiplayer (battle mode). I'd personally also add some balance changes like making the pogo/mediaval mayhem levels only 1 minute and reduce the ball number in Crash Ball otherwise these mini games go on for way too long and then allow us to edit the time/ball count as well as rounds in multiplayer if we so wish. Imo, these changes would make the game so, so much better despite still having similar mini games.

@Pikmin442 Жыл бұрын
Wanna know something, you don't even need to do adventure mode to unlock the mini games. If I remember right all you need is a black label Spryo 3, enter a code to get to the Crash Bash demo, then enter another code to get access to the demos debug mode. The debug mode has all the mini games and there multiplayer ready.

I'm just here to remind you that I completed the Adventure Mode 200% as Cortex and you didn't. Jokes aside (except for my main point, which is that I've completed Adventure Mode 200% as Cortex and you didn't), it's neat that Adventure Mode has a multiplayer co-op campaign and a Tie-Breaker stage to decide whether Good or Evil wins by just putting the two players against each other after the final boss fight. I haven't seen this in any other multiplayer Crash game, not even in everyone's favorite Crash Team Racing. It's just a shame I'm too lonely to find someone who would play Crash Bash with me for game completion

Instead of clearing the adventure mode to unlock everything I just start up Spyro 3 and play the demo of crash bash with the debug cheat. It's a lot faster if not a bit more janky.

when I went on the N.Sane trip that was completing this game on my own, it was a madness-inducing journey. The moment you pick your character also determines your "hidden difficulty" since none have the same strength/weaknesses in other words: Speedrunners would pick Tiny/Kong since they are the easiest of the roster The N.s stand for Normal (Cortex/Brio of course) The Bandicoot power are playing on Hard (I did so with Coco) Everyone avoid Dingodile/Rilla Roo as they are "jack of all trades, master of none", but TERRIBLE (and it's sad for Dingodile, also who cares for Rilla Roo)
@lozangekitten-gamer7626 Жыл бұрын
Also, when you don't play for the trophy, the NPCs immediately become harder, and once you aim at the relics, THEY WILL SNIPE YOU EDIT: I ended up returning to Crash Bash to 200% it a SECOND TIME in August 2024 and if you REALLY wanna play Crash Bash, you should just get the demo from Spyro 3 or the demo discs that holds Crash Bash, uses the Cheat Menu to access the vast majority of the game and use the cheat modifiers to have every players controlling their respective demo characters

17:51 Well there is a cheat to unlock all the minigames, but only the FIRST European version of the game. Though considering that you have an emulator, you COULD import a 100% save file to test out the other minigames. I know that'd technically defeat the purpose of a review to use it, but I'd still be curious to hear your thoughts on playing them.

The magnet from the pin poin mini game was fun and add some strategy bc if you keep look at the score you get 4 and shoot at the weakes or the busiest opponent . it does get hard but to win u gotta use your enemies on your favor ; atleast for me i like it bc it was easier to eliminate them but if a mistake was made your were almost done for the round hehe

Crash Bash has potential, but roughly executed. It sure could benefit from a redo, even just a romhack to change the singleplayer stuff to make it easier to unlock games and 100% the game. Oh well.
