I hate that stabilization bug we saw happen. It’s not just a Blackmagic bug, it does it on other third party camera apps as well. Only seems to happen on lenses other than the 1x and happens on my 16 pro max and my wife’s 16 pro. I tested it in filmic pro and it was also happening there with the .5x and 5x lens. Cinematic stabilization definitely seems to make it occur less, but still happens especially when moving for some reason. Definitely super annoying.

Kino, p3 and protake dont have this problem. Kino does have something similar but only on the 2x camera which is a lot easier to work around.

Yeah I thought my new iPhone was broken because of that bug, but then realised it was only happening in the 3rd party apps, and only when stabe turned on. So back to gimbals for now…

I have the same issue on my iPhone16 pro but noticed that when I start to record the glitch goes away and the final recorded clip has no issues.

@@TessLowe I don’t doubt you. Maybe I’m getting lucky. I’ve used both cinematic and extreme settings on all lenses. Once I hit record the glitching stops. Not sure if my other settings have anything to do with it.

The DockKit accessory support is actually a great feature if you have something like the Belkin Auto-Tracking Stand. This would let you automatically track and follow a subject with the stand while using the Black Magic app

As always, the review is on top. I'm waiting for the Blackmagic engineers to give me the opportunity to shoot at low shutter speed. This is the function that videocameras have and it allows you to shoot creative shots with an interval delay, creating smudges from trails It's going to be great.

Good update. Could you demo the app in horizontal rather than vertical. Most of us use horizontal for video & stills. IMO

2:10 the zoom feature of the BM Camera App have all time worked that way, only based on the lens selected, and not across lenses. So not something new with that update

I would love to see the ability to pick two focus points and a speed, then have a press rack focus between the points.

If I have understood your query correctly, I think that function already exists. The second icon down, (above the shutter button) is manual focus. When pressed a scale appears and at the very bottom a symbol that looks like 3 mountains appears. Press that and you get 3 manual focus points, the direction in which the focus shifts and a timer.

The app is completely useless for iPhone 16 users due to the stability bugs on all lenses other than the 1x. Plenty of other apps don’t have this issue so its really frustrating to see them take this long to bring out an update and not fix a huge bug like this.

Hi Mr. Tobin, I think the BM camera app is great, but the false color tool does not work properly, maybe I am doing something wrong, but if I set the correct exposure via the false color, the image result is 1.5 stops too dark , can you help me to use this tool better, thanks in advance

Personally, I think that the camera control is legit amazing so long as you put some time and effort into actually using it and getting used to it. And doing that now will make visual intelligence even more effortless and awesome. BTW Visual intelligence is now in developer beta and is coming sooner then you might think.

Adding to this cinema p3 has an option for auto ISO. Quite nice feature for run and gun video

Make sure your SSD's have good SUSTAINED write speeds. Maximum speed means nothing if you're recording 4K120 for more than a few seconds

Biggest Bug with Blackmagic app is uneven White clipping point for Apple LOG when using manual ISO/SS settings to expose the scene. In Auto exposure mode white point seems to be at 95 IRE all times but for manual ISO/SS settings it varies from 70-80 IRE for lower base ISO which makes the False Colour and RGB Traffic clipping lights unusable. Please Raise this issue to Black Magic if possible so that we can get this fixed as soon as possible. If this is a bug from Apple's side, then BM team can inform them to improve n next generations of iPhone.

Strange but I had the same issue. I had to delete the Blackmagic Camara app and reinstall it and the reinstall had the camera control feature. For some reason it did not show in the updates or show that an update was available.

at last, Dowloaded and started testing while watching. Interesting that I can record 4K 120 in ProRes LT direct to the phone ,but when I try to do it using H265, the app just crashes. It’s not quite there yet :)

Is there a way to control the audio in the BlackMagic app? I often use a wireless mic, plugged into the iPhone and the audio is in the red and distorted. I can tap the audio view, it❤ opens on screen but nothing controls the audio volume. Got any ideas, thoughts or tricks to keep the audio in the green during recording? Am I the only person asking this question?

I have a new iPhone 16 Pro. I have tried to use the Blackmagic Camera app, but I keep getting a "Recording Interrupted" message, due to dropped frames. I tried everything to get it to work. I switched back to the native iPhone camera app, and it all works again. Weird. At this point in time I consider the Blackmagic Camera app unusable.

Are they really serious when they say that the maximum possible data rate for 4K and the 265/264 codec is only 54 Mbit? And is it still the case with the iPhone 15 that you can also record in ProRes with the BM Camera app on the non-Pro models?

Hi, I just downloaded the Blackmagic Camera app on my iPhone 16 Pro and I have an issue with the UI, it is not rotating to a horizontal (landscape). I have tried all the settings but I see no way to see the same screen UI as yours. Can anyone help? Thanks a lot. App version 2.1

Me too. I record aircraft and need to lock the shutter at 1/120th to 1/360th to get decent propeller blur. I was bummed to see that ISO can not be set to auto with the shutter speed locked. Very limiting.

Apparently, turn on display LUT & Record LUT to Clip seems to apply the LUT twice instead of once.

@@XtraHidaryalso, if you’re using an Apple Log to rec.709 LUT and recording in H265 or H264, the videos get tagged as rec2020 color space instead of rec709, which fucks up the colors. This does not happen when recording in any of the ProRes options
