*UPDATE* 12th Feb 2014
After receiving my new Mac Pro I've been able to process the RAW and ProRes files with ease. I am now beginning to think that the banding shown on this video and my other tests was due to my workflow, but I need to do more testing to be sure. When my schedule allows I will test and update this further.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By no means is this a definitive test, but it does provide an interesting comparison between the BMCC EF and Sony PMW200 when shooting underwater.
I am in the process of writing up a full review of the BMCC and will post links when complete.
Filmed at Isla Guadalupe, Mexico.
Filmed with:
BMCC EF Mount
Tokina 10-17mm
Nauticam BMCC Underwater Housing (Prototype)
Zen 4'' mini Dome Port
Sony PMW200
Gates PMW200 Underwater Housing
Gates EM43 External Monitor
Standard Port

Simon would love to hear about your experience with the BMCC underwater. I'm thinking about the nauticam housing as I already have a BMCC......

Hi Ian. I've not had a chance to use the BMCC again underwater, but I have just used the BMPCC for a week and overall I was impressed with the results you can get as long as you have some grading skills! I am writing up the review now and should have it online by next week.

Simon Spear That would be awesome to take a look at, I'm very interested in what this thing looks like under water. I would also love to hear your take on the nauticam housing and how that works....thanks!

Ian Fein Hi Ian. The review is online and can be found at www.viewfromtheblue.blogspot.com Part 1 is the BMCC, Part 2 the BMPCC. Some of it overlaps so I'd recommend reading both.

Simon Spear I have the 2.5 and 4k, great cams. Simon I assume the screen is easy to view underwater? also, what filter do you use to 'balance' the red channel? gonna read your review now.

Hi Hugh. Yes the LCD is pretty clear on the BMCC. My filter of choice would be the URPRO blue water for tropical, but I wasn't able to test that with the BMCC as I couldn't use it with the Tokina 10-17 (no filter thread) or the BMPCC (my filter was too big for he port that I used). I think the review covers most things but any questions please ask! Still learning how to get the best results from them underwater... Cheers, Simon

Hey Simon. Couldn't really see a big difference between the raw footage and the PMW200 here on youtube. WB a little off on the prores files though. Looking forward to your review. Thanks!

Hi Espen. Yes its not a great upload, very blocky and lots of banding. I'll try to re-encode and upload a new version over the weekend. Cheers, Simon

oceanic16 I've actually just managed to finish my full review which you can find at www.viewfromtheblue.blogspot.com . Part 1 is the BMCC, Part 2 the BMPCC, but some of it overlaps and is relevant to both so I'd definitely recommend reading both. Hope this helps!
