hey can I use 3 cameras -->> input HDMI switcher --->> UltraStudio mini Recorder --->>> Macbook pro? instead of Dslr/camcorder directly to recorder, it will pass 1st on HDMI Switcher, rather than purchasing another recorder for another video camera, is it possible? thanks

You can indeed do that however I believe that a cheap HDMI switcher would have black frames between switching. Worth trying out though!

You will need to use 1080i60 or 1080i50 to get it to work with that device. The other output setting is 1080p60 which will not work

Hello. Great video. I have a go pro Black 7, and i just cannot get it to work. Have you got any ideas what i may be doing wrong, or is it just not compatible. It does connect, but i cannot see no image coming through. I have a Macbook pro. Any help would be great. Thank you

It’s tough to say without my hands on the device but it could be that the GoPro is putting out a signal over 1080p30 which is the maximum res and FPS for this device.

Hiya mate, my Nikon D5100 only lets me shoot for 20 minutes max, but if I use it as a web cam will I still be limited to 20 minutes at a time? Thank you.

This may indeed work but you will want to check if your Nikon gives out a cleaner HDMI signal. This can be checked by plugging it into any HDMI tv and see how it looks

Thanks. I managed to get a clean HDMI using a hacked firmware. The only issue now is that when I use 1080i the image is stretched, it's as tho it's taking 4:3 and stretching it to 16:9, and if I select 720p it's like a 4:3 square sat inside of a 16:9 rectangle, fortunately in Wirecast I can crop the black bars out and zoom in, so all in all I'm pretty happy. Just out of curiosity which camera are you using in this video? I need to check out your other videos to see if you have any recommendations. Thanks for helping us all with this!

So I'm using the Xa11 for recording. I want to purchase this for live streaming, maybe use OBS or the blackmagic software. I am using a 2017 Imac which they converted their outlets, would I need to buy an adaptor that works with the new Imac ports? And also does it matter which HDMI cable to use?? Thank you in advance.

You would need to either down convert the signal to 1080p25/30 or you could use a completely different capture device of course

+Merideth Marsh that's a great question. I feel like you may still have issues even with a compressor as you will end up taking up more space (the original footage and the compressed version). It may be time for an external hard drive!

I would recommend a different device completely. A Magewell USB capture card would work on windows.

+Frank Stonehouse that’s true. The cameras aren’t really made for live streaming technically. They can overheat and aren’t built for long term things. So if you want to do an hour long stream and have a power cable (instead of the battery) then you’ll be fine. For a long day of streaming then I would test it a lot before trusting it!

+kcalhoun0580 not quite. The shuttle will record to an SSD. These are used to connect a camera to a laptop/computer in order to record or stream on that computer.

Most of the time, no - you can't plug in hdmi straight into your computer. The HDMI on a computer is there to send out the picture to a screen, they don't take any information inwards - like video from a camera. So to get camera video into your computer, just use this box connected via thunderbolt.

Hey - There's no need to get an adapter, You might want to check out something like the Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle or go for something like the Epiphan AV.io HD which is a USB 3.0 device!

+tennisphotography on the pc side of things, if you have three available Thunderbolt ports then you could go for the mini recorders. However I would recommend going for the Blackmagic Decklink cards if you are using a desktop pc as these will slot inside the pc and work great. If yours on a laptop then three shuttles could work but that would be a lot of stuff to carry around. Check out the Epiphan AV.io devices which are USB 3.0!
