Funny how watching those test clips, the rolling shutter immediately looks bad. But on the other hand, I have used my BMPCC4k (which also has "bad" rolling shutter) for 5 years as a daily workhorse and never in those years I have felt like "damn this rolling shutter makes this camera useless". No matter if i do corporate or fast paced sport videos, I have never felt like my bmpcc is useless. Funny thing is that sometimes I see big hollywood movies car or train interior scenes, where every lamp post and tree outside the window is bent 45 degrees with rolling shutter, nobody cares. Great video btw! Looking forward for next episodes.

Exactly, you buy camera for 80/90% of work and rent for specific jobs. Simple as that. I remember when I shot a running commercial 5 years ago, playing CallOfDuty with this camera to show dynamics of runners with special socks on (product in this commercial), I chose a global shutter camera, that’s it, never later (yet) needed one because of different types of shots I do often.

Another trick is to turn your camera vertically. It's best to do this with a wide lens and open-gate for more resolution.

even tho youre changing the readout speed youre also changing the area of the sensor being read out, sooooo the skew is actually the same. The Ursa Mini 12k and Cine 12k changes the resolution read out, now the area. So in those cameras the skew actually improves
@AndrewZeletrainStudios15 күн бұрын
I eventually stopped caring about rolling shutter since it never really hinders what I shoot. I have the Pocket 4K currently and going to pair it with the Ursa Broadcast G2. I know that since the Broadcast G2 has the same sensor as the Pocket 6K Pro, the rolling shutter will be worse than my P4K, but I doubt it will be a problem in real world situations and if it is... gyro stabilization all the way.

I’m honestly holding back because of the rolling each other so this helps out and it’s only because the documentary I end up shooting I end up having to run a lot. You hit it on the nose, if you’re gunna be slinging the camera around… 1. Not the smartest thing to do… 2. Being more intentional with your movements for sure. Rolling shutter is one of those things that there is a camera for that haha. Pyxis = intentionality

Hehe, that was nice.. call of duty😂 You’re right, there is too much talking about this rolling shutter “problem”. Let’s make it straight: I someone shot CallOfDuty style.. then he/ she just need a global shutter camera (Komodo for example). And for all who have problem with Pyxis 3K$ camera having “bad rolling shutter “ just go buy Sony Burano 25K$ camera (with the same “bad rolling shutter “)😂 Cheers!

The rolling shutter complaint is such a non-issue. The Pyxis performs similarly to the majority of the Sony Cine line when it’s cropped to an equivalent 17:9 ratio.

My question is...Who the hell whips their camera around like that? I always hate that kind of rolling shutter "test". It's not at all what I would do in a real world scenario. Even during an action scene, you don't move the camera in that way. Look at some major movies, they have rolling shutter. Alex 35 and the Venice have rolling shutter, all be it, much faster read out speeds. Like you say in this video, it's all in the camera movement. The simplest way to combat rolling shutter is don't move your camera that way!
@KofiYeboah15 күн бұрын
That’s the nail on the head , if you’re doing your best tail wag with a camera, you’re going to have a bad time
@FiletOvFish15 күн бұрын
But the rolling shutter on this cam will likely be seen even in just slightly unstable shots. I have a bmpcc4k which has a faster readout and I can see a bit of RS when I'm operating handheld sometimes. Gyro stab pretty much eliminates it but it also punches in on the shot. That cam is right on the edge of unacceptable to me but this one looks like it goes over. I'm also a fan of the occasional whip pan (when appropriate) and neither cam is gonna be good for that. All depends on what and how you're shooting of course
@TriCoreDigital15 күн бұрын
@@FiletOvFish RS is present in most high end cinema cameras like the Alexa 35, Sony Venice 2, Monstro, Gemini, and Raptor. These cameras are used in major films. It doesn't matter what camera you use, unless you have a global shutter camera you will have RS if you don't plan your camera moves like Kofi was saying. If you plan for a whip-pan in your shot, shoot wider to compensate for the crop when you stabilize. My point was to agree with Kofi and to point out (even whip pans) normal camera move are not like the examples a lot of KZbinrs use to demo RS, therefore it's not a practical example of real world effects of RS. If you take an Alexa 35 and whip it around like that you will see RS too.
@FiletOvFish15 күн бұрын
@@TriCoreDigital You missed my point and went on a tangent about other cameras. I never said that RS wasn't present in those cams, I said in THIS camera it will likely be so pronounced that even in handheld shots it could be noticeable. I gave a personal anecdote to back this up. You are free to disagree with me but please address what I actually wrote with your responses or don't tag me. Thx
@TriCoreDigital15 күн бұрын
@@FiletOvFish Sorry, I didn't mean to upset you. I wasn't going on a tangent, I was just giving examples to explain my point. Which is all cameras have rolling shutter and that it can be combated with intention and planning of your shots. I was just trying to have a conversation addressing what you wrote. I didn't mean for you to take it so personal.
