In B4 "shoulda made trapdoors functional" comments....didn't want to, that would really be pretty pointless ;P Hope you guys enjoyed this vid, and I hope it helps all those asking about doing wood texture on foam. If you wanna pick up some tools & supplies to tackle this build don't forget you can help out the channel in the process by grabbing stuff via my essential equipment links: bit.ly/EssentialEquip

Pointlessly awesome, you mean! Just kidding, way too much work for practically no payoff, and would probably make the whole thing far too fragile for actual (or at least, repeated) use.

Ok what about making a working mini guillotine Definitely more plausible
@beardlyinteresting
@beardlyinteresting 6 жыл бұрын
OK, so that's a no on the trapdoors, but why do the condemned have their weapons drawn. Surely they should be disarmed with their hands tied behind their backs. 2/7 literally unusable, the wood texturing is nice though.

I'm not going to spoil things and let you know I made a guillotine video for next week............but if I were to do something like that, I'd have the same mindset, that making it function would be pointless for game purposes so I wouldn't bother.....not that I've done this or anything....nope. Stay tuned for next friday's episode, it will be a TOTAL surprise.

THANK YOU for steering away from brown wood! Your dark brown wood is the only thing you do that I found annoying, so I literally cheered when you stopped the video to go outside and check out the fence boards. Lovely work as always. For not being a knot guy your nooses aren't bad at all.

I recommend for weathered looks, especially in wood, to use more greens in a base coat! Humidity and mold tends to green things over time, especially wood. These vids are super inspiring and makes me even more excited to world build for dnd!

If you want to skip the trap door(s) on your tree, set the beam a bit higher so there is room for the barrels/stools that the hangman will kick out from under your minis' feet.

To make a noose for miniatures I use a small jig I made with some MDF board and two finishing nails. Just hammer in the nails enough to hold and as far apart as you need the noose and wraps. From here there's two ways of doing it. The first and easiest way for those that aren't good with knots is a simple overhand knot. Make sure that the knot is at the back side of one of the nails, now cut off a length of the twine and wrap in up to 13 times between the two nails and glue the ends to the wrap and cut off any extra from the ends. I use superglue on the end of a toothpick for this so it can slide up and down freely for now. Now loosen the overhand knot so you can take it off the nails. Slide the wrap to the knot or tighten the not till you have the right size loop you need and glue the wrap to the knot. This will stop it from sliding off and it will look like an actual hangman's noose. The second way. Like the first coil the twine between the two nails, only if you know how to make a hangman's noose, and on the back coiling (going back towards the noose loop) and make your 13 wraps and finish as you would for a noose. Once done carefully slide the noose off the nails and feed the tail of the twine through the loop on that end and lightly pull the loop at the other end to tighten the noose not and done. You can adjust the loop to the size you need at this point and use glue, superglue or pva or whatever you prefer to lock it in place. Maybe I should be making videos on how to do all these small detail pieces. Don't have the right camera or much time really to do them though. So I will just give my advice when and where I can I guess.

Very good coverage on the basics of "woodwork". I have gotten very good results on finishing by using a brown rather than black mod podge base. I use Apple Barrel Brown Oxide. A 1 part paint to 2 parts 'podge gives a nice medium brown undertone.

It's still a new thing, but it will be making it's way into the tutorial videos to break them up a bit with some interesting stuff. ....the channel has completely taken over all my creative efforts. As of now I havn't touched music production in years. Maybe one day I'll jump back in, but for now I'm satisfied putting my effort into videos.

black magic craft killing it with the crafting content! if there was anything I could find to gripe about would be to add some green tint at the bottom but otherwise the wood color technique looks a lot better than the "tar covered" | "railroad ties" coloring.

I thought about that, but didn't want it to look THAT dilapidated. If you were doing an abandoned cottage or something, this paint technique would look great with some green wash stippling near the ground.

Yeah I noticed you were doing it on stone but the idea was stuck in my head since you pointed to your wooden fence. None the less I have always been a fan of the brighter wood since I live in Texas and we use pine here and it is yellow. I have no idea why the norm is dark brown.
