I found that clicking and defibing over and over does better than holding it. I think the defib works best right when you zap, then the current "fades" after the initial zap and it takes longer to kill

Exactly the same reason why C4 you placed on a moving tank is blowing up on the ground even though it clearly shows that the C4 is on the tank, it's the magic of the client being desynced. Basically every gadget you throw on the ground is actually not accurately placed on the server, instead it might be a few centimetres off, sometimes when items bounce in the client, the server does not recognize this. _ Defibs are pretty good for immobile targets, and it's faster and cleaner than the knife.
