Don't bring your phone anywhere near the Cache. They are amazing tracking devices. If you have signal, they will know exactly where you are, and if you don't have signal they still may know where it has been. If you really have to keep it on you, get one of those faraday cage bags, and make sure it works.

One downside to burying stuff, unless you're in the desert, is that it sweats inside the container. I buried some ammo in cans under a shed, checked it after a few years and it was ruined because of condensation.

As an addendum. If your worried about "Agencies" or using GPS markers leave the phone at home when doing this. It's not obvious but Google and the like track your travel data even if your not using GPS as a tool. Google will send you travel reports of how far you've traveled, where, ect (also not just google but you get the point). Granted you need service for this to work so if you're in the sticks maybe this won't apply to you but still something to consider if this is a real concern of yours.

I carry my climbing tree stand in on my back and cache it the woods the entire deer season. I find a spot with dense cover that nobody is going to walk through and bury my stand with forest duff and lay dead branches on top of it. That way I can come in pre dawn, quietly remove my stand and get up in a tree quietly.

Hey Blackie! You are talking my language with this one! I used to live in a remote area and was scared of fire, so I got an oil drum with a removable top and filled it with a pair of boots, some spare undergotchies, etc. just stuff I would need if the cabin burned. Hid it on the back side of the property under a pile of old roofing and construction debris, a passerby would think it was just a dump site. Hey great video, thanks! Regards, Pink.

Blackie, that's a great ideal!! Back in the 80's when it started that gun deal. I started cache in the woods. I put a 6" X 6' with a cap on bottom and screw on top. I cut a piece plywood with piece of Parlodel to pull everything up. Take a oily rage on bottom , than the plywood, drop what ever into to it. Dig a post hole by a fence post. Thanput Vaseline around the screw lid and put a little dut over it. I have had four in the ground. I check mine with the seasons. Never had a problem. Thanks for the video!

Great points Blackie! If things got bad enough I had to access backup BOB supplies like that the first thing I'm going to do is either ditch my cell phone or wrap it in bubble wrap and put it in a can so it will have zero signal. Those things are pretty much tracking and surveillance devices and they have to be neutralized.

Another Excellent lesson from the Master of Bushcraft ! There are some other channels who t h i n k they are experts on this particular subject - they are lacking. My late parents were children of the Great Depression and saw & experienced banks and such lock the doors and that was the end of people's money... Now it's supposedly insured. I don't know about safety deposit boxes. If banks lock the doors you can't get to that either. Often times when you purchase a large bottle of aspirin or whatever, or electronics you'll find something that looks like a packet of sugar or salt. Those are Desiccants which absorb moisture. You can buy them too. Toss a few of those in the container you're going to hide. Added measure of protection.

If you use a container made of metal that you're worried will Rust. you can use a process called cathodic protection. Under the metal container in the ground use a wire attached to a metal like zinc or magnesium. They will give up there electrons easier to oxygen then iron. It becomes a sacrificial metal. The zinc or magnesium will corrode but the iron will not. If done correctly this can protect untreated unpainted metal for up to 20 years in the ground. then all you have to do is replace the cathode again when it corrodes away.

I do suggest what ever anyone is deciding to use as a cache .. try it out on small scale first .. place stuff that has similar properties to what you actually want to cache in your test cache .. a dollar store screw driver is a better choice to find out your cache sweats and causes rust than that knife you was thinking would be god to cache .. 6ft of paracord instead of a 100 ft Hank .. make sure it doesn’t mildew . 3 matches in side a pill bottle taped shut instead of a whole box of strike any where .. go small and cheap with items ,, test at 1 week ,, 1 month ,, 3 months .. if stuff is good you’re on the right track ,, even a couple 22 cartridges .. way cheaper than that box of 380 you was thinking about trying to store for starters .. make sure after the test all these cheap items work as they should and have not deteriorated ..

I like the cache idea. Another method of storage is the 5 gallon plastic bucket with a snap on lid. Dig a hole big enough to set 4 or 5 or more buckets in , line the hole with gravel as you said. Then set the buckets in the hole and cover with tar paper as described , cover with dirt and camouflage as you see fit. Having a backhoe or an excavator is handy and saves back labor as well.

Most parks usually have wooded fringes (at least where I live) Under flower beds is another option if you can do it inconspicuously. My thinking for that situation would be a number of smaller caches in maybe empty paint cans. (you can get them from big box home improvement centers) They're air tight, light weight, and easy to pack in. Pack it, put in some desiccant and cover the entire thing with flex seal. This should completely protect the contents and prevent any scent from edibles escaping. I read some prepping book long ago and far far away where the author said someone set a number of these on his line of march on the way home. He'd put some rice and beans, plastic drop cloth, waterproof matches, fishing tackle and a few shotgun shells in the cans. The idea was to provide enough supplies for one night to keep him going.with maybe a little extra. Only downside is you need a tool to open the cache.

Insert ammo can leaving room at the top for exposed ammo can top, all below ground level. Fill hole with concrete with can in place. BEFORE CONCRETE HARDENS..REMOVE SAID AMMO CAN. Come back after concrete hardens. Insert ammo can. Fill ammo can accordingly. Place hardend fixture over top of can/concrete structure. This is added protection for your stuff..

Hey Blackie, I travel for work and have spent the last 3 weeks in Prattville AL. The humidity might be worse than what I'm used to living in NC. I'm not sure when I'll be back but do you have any camping/hiking recommendations for the area? Thanks!

I'm more of a lefty. I probably don't trust the government for different reasons than you do. I used to have a house on the San Lorenzo River in California. Those of us lucky enough to have a house would have "river clean ups", I discovered soon enough then it was vigilantes, a mob of homeowners, coming through and mowing down everybody's homeless encampments and throwing their stuff away. I did not like that. I often march to A Different Drummer and I have often had people that come through and want to take my stuff and liquidate it and have me live more like they do.

Another option is to not put all your eggs in one basket. As in several smaller caches. I read a prepping book a long time ago where a house painter would get used paint cans, put supplies in (plastic drop cloth, matches, food, fishing line and hooks, and some shotgun shells) cover the entire can with tar, then plant it in the ground along his evacuation route. If he lost one cache it wasn't the end of the world so long as he could always get the next one. .30 and .50 ammo cans could be used. Or any tough completely air tight container. As could large diameter pvc pipe with an end cap and clean out adapter. (well, sealed and probably flex sealed too) Just some thoughts. Thanks again for the video Blackie!

Latest addition to my kit is camp netting, useful for camping area, caches, temporary concealment, potentially combining with some type of space blanket underneath to avoid thermal detection from drones or other arial assets.

Something else to add to this if you are going to use gps or even a map someone finds. At the way point you mark, you can add something there such as make a chair out of some rocks. Name that way point "blue birds" or something. If anyone checks that way point, they will see a place that looks like you bird watch from there. Meanwhile, it's just a marker for you to know how to get to the actual cache. Marked way points (even though they aren't the actual cache point) can be used to throw others off as they will see something totally different than what is really not far away. Basically, using psychology to keep others away from what you don't want them to know about or find.

There's at least 1 other good caching video on KZbin. Worth watching for a different viewpoint. ( Then listen to Blackie for his experience also). (Something rifleman. I forget the channel name. Someone tell me and I'll edit to reflect. He was a green beret medic i think. Something like that.) Excellent info to be found there as well.
