Lyrics:
Verse 1a
I ride the dawn
It’s in the name I was given
Can’t get away from the meaning
I’ll always rise
I’ll always shine
Verse 1b
In a blackout
I will illuminate the dark
You won’t escape the beaming
I will glimmer, I will glow
Channel
You can’t turn out a light
Shining from the inside
Can’t turn out a light
Shining from the inside
Verse 2a
Light of the world
It’s the name we were given
Can’t get away from the vision
We are cities on a hill
Verse 2b
In a blackout
We will illuminate the dark
They won’t escape the beaming
We will glimmer, we will glow
Chorus
This our paradigm
The world didn’t give it
And they can’t take it away
We are made of light
The world didn’t give it
And they can’t take it away
Tag
In a blackout, I will illuminate the dark
You won’t escape the beaming
In a blackout, we will illuminate the dark
They won’t escape the beaming
In a blackout, I will illuminate the dark
They won’t escape the beaming

do you realize that if you click those 3 dots (upper right) you can actually correct your spelling errors! Then your post would at least be readable. In case you can't see it... change "circular" to "secular"... with that done, Yes, you may be right! But it's a budget production with limited props, and less experience (thank God).

Hey Dustin! From my observation of Stephanie's actions, words, songs, gestures and non-verbal communications, I can tell you with a high degree of confidence, her heart's deepest motivation is to worship God, have a closer personal relationship with Jesus, and to lead us into the same. Do you disagree?

*Caution advised Timo...* are you sure you can speak for God? Do you have chapter and verse for that? BTW, are you ESL? Perhaps you should not worry about "grammies", but focus first on your "grammar", with a goal of making a whole sentence. Do this first so our dialectic can make sense. What do you think?

It is sometimes funny, more so sad but still funny how we try to put Jesus in this box. This box of we can only worship "this" way, or pray "this" way or Christian music can only sound like "this" or look like "this". You guys! OUR JESUS ROSE FROM THE DEAD!! LIKE DEAD DEAD!! Jesus broke through EVERY logical box anyone could ever even imagine and we have the amazing Holy Spirit inside of us meaning we do not have to put ourselves in a box either! And if anyone examples that, its Steffany. The way she loves Jesus in this radical way that to most just seems pretty insane and weird but to those who love Him and who choose to not be constrained to a box, its beautiful and truly inspiring. I love you Steff and this song and whole album really breaks through boxes and for that Thank you.

I appreciate your opinion! As a friendly hint, just remember traditional church is in a box. Jesus split the temple, or the "box", and ignore what Jesus did and run back to the it. I think our priorities as Christians are mixed up because we want to be more relevant and creative, but continue exclude God's explicit will for church. See a pattern? Consider this, Jesus did church in His house and had the Lord's supper in a house where fellowship and discipleship took place, but if you really want to take God out of the box why not start with what Jesus called us to do? To preach the Gospel, heal the sick, cast out demons, make disciples and teach them all the things Jesus commanded us. When we start doing those things I think Jesus will see we are really coming out of the box.

This is my take on this, and a very gentle response to some comments I see here: There are two kinds of Christian music, one meant for worshipping our Father, and one meant for expressing our talents for entertainment while still being true to our faith and bringing glory to God and all His creation (including us and the gifts He gave us). This falls into the second category, and does it really, really well. Steffany is an annointed worshipper, and also obviously a gifted songwriter outside of worship. Personally, I love it. I'm not a Bethel bandwagoner, but I'm thankful for this music.

Dig back in your Bible.. she is singing praise to God through these lyrics, that IS worship. I'm just saying. This is called revival, the next generation does not relate to the last one. The world is changing and God knows how to reach all of us. This is His way to get to the ones that are coming up next... It is naive to think that the church is going to be the same way it is now in 50 years. Denomination is going to be gone, it was never intended to be that way from the start. The book of Acts does not speak of different denominations it says we are to follow Christ. Denomination is about man, it causes division among believers... we are heading back to a church that reflects the Book of Acts, a church like it was in the beginning. We are just getting started! I'm not a Bethel bandwaggoner either... I don't even know what that means, but I do know God and I see where this is all heading. Jump on the Jesus bandwagon! Follow His teachings and the Bible.

I love many anointed Bethel songs. My Spirit was grieved when listening to this one because the actual name of Jesus was not mentioned. If the church was removed and a person who did not know Jesus listened to this song, I believe they would come to the conclusion that they themselves are the light which is a prevalent message that is believed in many other religions. I pray whoever reads my comment does not take offense rather goes to Jesus as He deserves all the glory, honor and praise.

You are correct Diane. This is how the new age/occultism is infiltrating the church. Everything looks and sounds like the world because it is. Jesus is not included (because they believe the divine is within). It’s time to rise up and preach the Gospel. No more playing around. He is coming soon.

@@tammyfreeman4525 I go on a lot of Christians KZbin channels and in the comment area, I ask how can I be saved? Very little could tell me the gospel of salvation, the gospel that can save my soul from hell, they mostly tell me about the gospel of the kingdom of God not the gospel of salvation, the one saved by grace though faith in Jesus Christ, that salvation is a free gift from God not of any human efforts or following traditions so no one could boast, the one that’s says Jesus Christ left heaven came down to earth born of a virgin rapt himself in flesh died and shad his blood on the cross so we could be forgiven of all our sins past, present and future sins, the gospel that’s says confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the grave three days after and you will be saved.

What an odd thing it would be for someone to communicate in a confusing way. Were a person to make assumptions even a simple parable might be misunderstood, possibly even by people who were not only religious but even by religious teachers. I wish they had a good example of that somewhere in the gospels.

How I interpret this song is, in a blackout (world or room full of unbelievers/evil) us Christians/children of God have the light of God within us that illuminates whenever we go. Its SO bright that unbelievers recognize it and can’t escape or deny the light. The world didn’t give us the Light of God and therefore they can't take it away from us. This song is DEEP!

Sometimes we get so caught up in what we see the world doing, that we forget that God is the author of all things...our creativity, gifts, etc. all originate with Him. When we use it all for His glory, it reminds us who the originator really is. So when we look at works of worship in art-forms like this, we recognize that the world is really copying us, not the other way around.

The world has tried to steal away light, and how I interpret is that God is redeeming what's been stolen and lost. In and through the darkness we will illuminate it with the ligiht of Jesus Christ! Everything in him is light, there is no darkness in Him. That's what I perceived from this. 🔥😍

Steffany is a bonafide pop artist on BLACKOUT and I am SHOOK. I was so excited but nervous for this new album. I knew how much I loved and valued Steffany’s artistic voice but also carry really hurtful experiences at the hands of the church and could not predict whether the worship genre would still prove triggering to me. I haven’t been connected to a faith community regularly since early 2016. My body trembles with anxiety every time I walk into a sanctuary these days yet here I am, journeying with God across synths and pop beats and I’m so grateful. This is exactly what I didn’t know I needed. If you ever read these comments, thank you Steffany for doing this work. For those who don’t get it, consider that maybe this just isn’t for you - not everything is created solely for the corporate church. This feels like drawing the net wide to touch those on the outskirts like me. That’s okay too. To everyone else, get BLACKOUT on iTunes now! It’s fantastic.

What kind of anxiety would you see it as? Social anxiety? Like having to converse and I interact with a bunch of folks you don't know. I agree with everything you said, brother. Man, I am the same with anxiety. Sometimes, I dislike having to approach people esp. strangers to speak a different language. I am an American over here in the Philippines to be exact. My mom is a Filipino and we've been over here for over 6 years now. Hope & pray all is well. Let us be blessed in Jesus' name with this anointed musical offering by Steff.

Wow, Steffany! How beautifully-crafted and a message of potent importance to us a Body. Honestly, I'm surprised and confused at any negative response from Christians to a song such as this. In the opening verse alone, she introduces us to the significance of a name, and therefore the response to & empowerment of its meaning. Her reference to her own name 'dawn' (the breaking of a new day's light) ties in so well, and as she goes on with "It's in the name I was given, can't get away from the meaning" - this points to what she unravels in the rest of the song - Jesus calling us the "light of the world" and being like a "city on a hill". We find meaning in this - it's a powerful call to the Church, a reminder of the meaning of a name we've been given. We're the light of the world! This is who we are. We can't get away from it. We reflect Him to those around us and draw them into the Kingdom of light. Truly rich lyrics to meditate on. The visuals alone were so creative and symbolic. I liked all the various different 'lighting' throughout the entirety of the video - alluding to the symbol of light Jesus gave us as a demonstration. Light everywhere, light piercing the dark spaces. The people united. Like the Body of Christ, standing as light bearers to the lost. It's so cool to see them harness and present this analogy in such creative visual ways. People dancing in the freedom of His love and in worship. I'm thankful we have artists that have access to resources that enable them to create high-quality art that's for God. It makes sense to give Him the best - it's so honouring to Him when we craft things for Him with care, thought, and talent. And of course the singer is going to appear singing in her own music video - let's not go so far as to say she can't appear in it in case " she draws attention to herself". That's silly, haha (: Steffany is His beautiful daughter and we get to watch her be herself as she glorifies Him in worship - and witness the boldness & authority He's given her in this empowerment to shine "light" to anyone in darkness. As she says, this our paradigm - our model that is used by God to bless us with an example to teach us and powerfully equip us. I'm saddened by the comments that dismiss this with criticisms that come from a place of a feeling of superiority. Inaccurately passing off false judgements that you've carelessly made as "discernment" is wrong, and arrogant. If you can't find God in this video, that's because you were never looking for Him in it in the first place. I encourage you to examine your heart in this - if you did not see Christ in this, perhaps you did not know the call that He gave to be His children of light, and this is your indication to respond! (: It's good to approach this with humility and look for His words - then be receptive to the truth that is being spoken. I was able to worship God during this. He spoke to me through this. This song is undoubtedly glorifying Him, His empowerment to us as His children, and is notably - biblical! It's literally about the words of Jesus. If invading media with Christ is an issue at all (something that everyone has access to & is constantly influenced by in current society all over the world) you should re-evaluate what our purpose is in being a holy people / representatives on the earth (through every age, which is currently a digital age might I add) - that speaks out the Gospel freely through all platforms. There's so much more I could to say on this piece, so much more to dive into and break down! I don't understand how anyone could not see the spiritual siginificance in this. Always look at the heart behind something, irrespective of what you might first see. This is good stuff, enjoy it! His love & peace to anyone reading this! (: Finally, Matthew 5, the scripture this song is based on: "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

Those of you who are saying, "she has no anointing", going commercial", "she's new age", excuse me but do you know her? You are assuming something about someone you have no relationship with. Maybe Stephanie wants to glorify Jesus with full artistic expression AND draw the lost to know their Savior. Did that ever cross your mind? It's a good rule of thumb to assume the best about someone, especially since she is singing a declaration of being the light of the world.

wigges worf you’re right. It’s not fair to assume something of someone without knowing them. So question is, do you personally know her? Chances are you don’t. Which means you can’t speak for her to say she IS glorifying God. Your point goes both ways. You are however called to be careful what you accept into your heart. You can’t ASSUME something is godly because they say so. The church is called to watch over each other. To keep each other in check so that we are not letting darkness blind us from the truth.
