We will integrate e^x/x and integrate 1/ln(x). These are non-elementary integrals but we can use special functions to integrate.
Exponential integral function Ei(x), en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exponen...
Logarithmic integral function li(x), en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logarit...

The logarithmic integral is very very interesting, since it can be considered as an incredibly approximation to the Prime number counter function, π(x), where xε|R and π are the number of primes equal or less than x.

Another cool thing: Li(x) (the big brother of li(x) is a very good approximation of π(x), the prime counting function i.e. if you want to know how many primes are smaller than 10000000 you can approximate with Li(10000000).

The answer is non-elementary. You have to do it on your graphing calculator and enter it as fnInt((ln(sin(x))^2,x,0,pi/2) and you get the approximation of 2.047. The exact answer if you see from Wolfram Alpha is (pi^3+3pi(ln(4))^2)/24.

I think the reason they put it in that worse form is that if you use the 2nd Ei(x) form it has a singularity and you'd need to put pv in front of the integral to take the cauchy principle value

You should also have explained that the integral definition of Ei(x) is only well-defined for x < 0, and that for x > 0, one needs the Cauchy principal value as well. An alternative definition of the exponential integral is the function E(1, z), or E1(z), which is given by the integral from z to ♾ of e^(-t)/t, which approaches Γ(0+) as z -> 0, which is ♾. This definition works for all complex numbers, except for the non-positive real numbers. Its related to Ei(x), because for real positive x, - E1(x) = Ei(-x), using the Cauchy principal value of the integral definition of Ei(x).

I was wondering, is there a formula to rotate a graph of a function around a given point of coordinates (x,y) at an angle θ? I tried switching to parametric form (t,f(t)) to find the resulting graph in a polar-like manner, however the process was painstakingly long and difficult, making it impossible to finish. Are there any quicker or easier ways to do that?

Ruth Bautista the answer is non-elementary. If you try to do IBP, it would come up as -xln(abs(cos(x)))+integral of ln(abs(sin(x))). According to Wolfram Alpha or others, the answer is (i(2ixln(abs(e^(2ix)+1)))+Li_2(-e^(2ix))+x^2)/2+C if you’re doing the complex solution. Li_2(x) is a polylogarithmic function, which is a non-elementary function.

Deepak Yadav the answer is non-elementary. If you look up Wolfram Alpha or other websites, the answer is 2E((2x-4)/4|2)+C. The E(x) stands for elliptic integral where the notation here as E(x|m) stands for the parameter with m=k^2 where k is an eccentricity if you remember from conic sections. This is NOT a probability notation.

@bobdole69420
@bobdole69420 4 жыл бұрын
The integral of a function is the area underneath the plot of the function. You can approximate an integral by splitting the area into lots of thin rectangles (obviously there will be some error here). You can describe this as the sum from i=a(the first part of the curve) to i=b(the second part of the curve) of f(x.i) (which is the height of the small strip of the curve, the length of the rectangle) * deltax (the distance between the strip of the curve, the width of the rectangle). When you take the limit as the rectangles get infinitely small, you get the exact answer - which is the integral.
@angelmendez-rivera351
@angelmendez-rivera351 4 жыл бұрын
Bob Dole ☭ Well... that's not quite true. The integral represents an area if and only if a number of restrictive conditions for the function hold. In general, though, it doesn't hold true.
