I’m pretty sure it’s because Teddy gave them a lot more creative control over this song than he usually does - Jisoo and Jennie have writing credits on it. I’m also not sure why people would tell him that Lisa writes her own raps? They’d list her if she did, but honestly Teddy isn’t known for giving up creative power, especially in regards to rap.

The Netflix Documentary, "Light Up the Sky", is a must watch. Especially for someone new to the world of Kpop, it gives you a little bit of insight into the way these artists are trained. It's a very different process than Western music. It is much more top down than is at all conceivable - and much more grueling. "Lovesick Girls" is definitely one of my favorite tracks of theirs. They can (and do) flex better than anyone in the industry, but sometimes you've got to why we should care: this is one of the songs that does that. Crisp, clean production; each of members showing their range and talents; and the unique spin on the breakup song - making it an anthem, with the "I'm fine, this is who we are" declaration, then flipping it at the end with the melancholy "No, 'we're still looking for love'" at the end.

Oh I felt the same about being surprised by how much I really honestly enjoyed this song as my daughter shared it with me. Beautifully blended styles from each of our girls that keep you engaged. The documentary would be cool to group watch, keep us updated on that front. We here in this household are proud Blinks, Army and Strays, all very worthy groups to look into after we finish this journey with our lovely ladies. I am pleasantly surprised by how K-pop has landed in our house and allows it to be a more family welcoming event that opens the field for meaningful conversations. Fun fact: Lovesick Girls was written by Jisoo and Jennie. All of the girls write a bunch for their own songs and help with the whole process but never actually get credit for it. This was the first song that any of the girls had official credits in the song writing. For example, Blackpink has a song called "Stay" that we only know was written by Jennie (and Jisoo is also rumored to have been a part of it) because of a behind the scenes clip where it's mentioned in passing that Jennie wrote it because the song writing credits don't even mention her.

I can't wait for you to start reacting to each of their solo debut. Personally, I knew blackpink through Rose'. Her music taste is exactly like mine, you should've heard her cover songs by coldplay, paramore etc her voice is so emotional, I hear what she's going through when she sings. Her solo "on the ground" and particularly "gone" are one my favourite songs of all time. What you should also know is that BP does involve themselves in the writing of their songs but YG doesn't credit them. I think this is common in Korean companies especially YG

The car is an Olds Delta 88 (probably 1975 model). They also put lots of little things in the videos for people who like to look for funny details or interesting symbols that just flash by so fast that most people won't be able to catch it. For example, when Lisa turns on the light switch in the little shop that they enter, there's a mastercard and visa sign on the door, but if you look closer, it's not "visa"...it's "lisa". (You can see it at 5:48 / 5:49 in this reaction video.) (Similarly, in Lisa's "Lalisa" music video, the "police" were actually the "polisa". ) Of course in the scene where Rosé is having a breakdown, while they're painting, the colors are black and pink. Rosé does a great job of acting upset and tormented. IIRC, she said in order to get into character she imagined being very upset about the pink color not being the right shade of pink. Also in the convenience store scene, Jennie is holding a box of cereal called "Love Crisp Killer"...which was one of the cereal boxes shown in "Kill This Love" in the scene where Lisa starts her rap with the line "Here I come kick in the door!"

It's transcendent. It has the sense of an anthem in it's sound. They are reaching out and having troubled relationships with love interests.But there is rejoicement in their friendship with each other. I think it's MORE than the sounds you are hearing and the words you are putting together. Producers, songwriters and demo singers are helping them put that together. I think it's who this is coming from directly. It's these 4 girls. You are right, Lisa is just right on point EVERY TIME. Rose' and Jisoo's voices are from heaven. Jennie literally IS THE SOUND, LOOK and spirit of the group. Everything they do here HITS HARD!!! I appreciate the lyrics so much especially in the very last part of the song. Love is slipping an falling. But once the pain's gone we forget and the fearless thrill returns with a new relationship. Lisa has contributed to lyrics in some songs but not in Lovesick Girls. Jennie are Jisoo do have cowriting credit on this track though. It's mostly Teddy Park writing the lyrics, many BLINKS have created an alternate reality though, where Lisa and Jennie don't get credited for writing lyrics. There's a big difference between writing a song and suggesting an alternate way to sing it or to add nuance.

I wouldn't say that it's mostly Teddy Park writing the lyrics. Teddy is obviously the chief producer, but in most of their songs he is working with a team of producers and writers and Teddy seems to be more on the music production side, rather than the lyrics side, even though I'm sure he participates in every aspect as the chief producer. For example, for Lovesick Girls the official songwriting/composing credits go to Teddy, Løren and Danny Chung, as well as group members Jisoo and Jennie. There are many other writers who also participate under Teddy's overall management of production. Compared to other labels, YG over the years has appeared to be quite conservative about giving credit for songwriting. Some labels seem willing to give songwriting credit to a headlining artist if the artist just pokes her head in a room where the actual songwriters are working and says "sounds great!" Writing rap verses was part of the training for the Blackpink Members before the group debuted, so it wouldn't be surprising to me if they've had a bigger role than the official credits suggest. For example, Lisa is indeed credited as co-writer for the "Say So" rap (that she performed in "The Show"), which, given YG's very conservative approach, probably means she was very involved and since it was her own project she probably mostly came up with the concept and message and Danny Chung helped out with polishing the English phrasing and word choices (since Lisa is not a native speaker of English).

There are lots of documentaries, fan made, on You Tube. Consider "The Ultimate guide to Blackpink 2022", "The Unhelpful guide to Blackpink 2020" and absolutely must watch "Blackpink:Journey to Friendship". I think you would love the journey to friendship video with its exploration of there formative years and the bonding that occurs with mutual hardship. The Netflix video is definitely worth a watch, but difficult to post on You tube. I watched this with a Youtubber who whitened out the viewing screen, or did the documentary in portions with breaks for analysis.

Since you're going down the introspective road with them, I suggest "Playing With Fire M/V" If you want another spin on run-of-the-mill pop that makes it "fresh", maybe try "Kiss And Make Up" by Dua Lipa and BLACKPINK. No music video for this one so I suggest a color-coded lyric video. If you decide you want another hard-hitting banger, I'd say try Pretty Savage (again, only lyrics), So Hot (lyrics. And this one's a cover of another group!) or See U Later (lyrics). And yes, you're a Blink.
