Blackpool Pleasure Beach MY FIRST TIME! Riding U.K.’s Tallest Coaster & Oldest Rides!

Join me for my first ever visit to Blackpool Pleasure Beach in Blackpool, England. Opened in 1896, Blackpool Pleasure Beach is a fun, seaside amusement park with a mix of world class thrill rides and roller coasters and vintage, historic dark rides - including the FIRST GHOST TRAIN!! In one day, we rode: The Big One (twice), Icon, River Caves, Ghost Train, Alice in Wonderland, Derby Racer, Wallace & Gromit and Big Dipper! We also had lunch at Coasters Bar & Restaurant and had a nice stay at the Big Blue Hotel with a coaster view out our room window, which was really unique and cool! Really interesting to watch a video of my favourite UK park from a first time visitors perspective, so nice to hear the positivity, this park is criminally underrated by UK enthusiasts at times unfortunately but then on the other hand I think those of us who do love it can take it for granted too! The 'laughing man' survived a major fire in the history of the Pleasure Beach in 1991, the old Fun House burnt down and somehow it survived whilst everything else was completely destroyed. The River Caves scene at 10:43 used to interact with the Goldmine, the Goldmine was closed in 2011 and re-opened as the rethemed W&G Thrill-O-Matic. The scene between the River Caves & Goldmine also interacted with a seating area, it was a great place and sadly lost charm of BPB. Alice in Wonderland was an idea inspired by the collaboration of Arrow Dynamics, BPB and Walt Disney all passing ideas between each other during the 60's, Walt Disney had a really good relationship with Leonard Thompson which is why the golden ticket tune is used for Alice in Wonderland, the working relationship between Walt, BPB and Arrow will always be remembered well. I grew up in the UK and we went to Blackpool every year for what they call the illuminations, where there is a 7 mile run along the shore of different lights and tableaux. Seeing you enjoy those rides brought back some very happy memories

It is known that Pleasure Beach helped give Walt Disney the inspiration he needed for his Disneyland park when he was invited to the park by Leonard Thompson back in the early 50s. The River Caves certainly gave Disney inspiration for the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. As a way of saying thanks for inspiring him, Disney gave his permission to build one ride and thus, the Alice ride was built.

​@@jennr3850 Theres no denying Walt visited the Pleasure Beach and took inspiration from there, but its fanaticism to claim Walt allowed the use of his intellectual property which doesn't belong to him. Remember the 1999 live action Alice? Not only that the clear difference in artwork between the ride and Disney's movie. Did PBPB build Alice to cash in on Disney's movie? Probably.

Incredible vid. Loved it. I am addicted to ghost trains and BPB GT is the best. Yes I have been on the big dark rides in the US and loved those also but nothing can beat old school ghost trains. Plus the Alice ride is so beautiful. The previous commenter has already expertly explained the music choice for the ride. Yeah the river caves used to pass through the Gold Mine ride sadly now gone. A Magnolia cafe was perfectly placed to watch people on both rides glide by. I used to stand at the railings as my parents enjoyed a cuppa', I remember watching, transfixed, listening to the music and sound effects, awesome memories.

Love how you keep so happy and positive even when the weather is cr@p! Not just the UK getting it, but serious flooding in many countries, and North Carolina were braced to be hit by Hurricane Kyle.... Blackpool was never one of my favourite places, but the last time I was there, which may be closer to 50 than 40 years ago, there was a frightening incident, when one of the cars on the Ghost Train had come off the rails, on a section that briefly came outside, and I'm not even sure if there were guard rails, but a lot of screaming going on!

Blackpool, UK's Coney Island. Steeplechase? That was even the name of one of the original amusement parks at Coney Island. Gotta love the smell of water rides. River Caves looks like a water ride version of Soarin or Spaceship Earth

What an AMAZING park. It is like Amusement park and Carnival all rolled into one. The distinctive , old school rides seem to whisk you away into the past. I do think the song on Alice's wonderland sounded like Willy Wonka though. LOVE , LOVE love this video. Thanks Jackie!

The one thing which is so different about Blackpool Pleasure Beach is the atmosphere. The sights, the sounds and smells which result from the rides being crammed so close together is unlike any other theme park in my opinion. I love it and was going to go this year but 2020 had other plans. Really hoping I can visit next year with my son as I haven't been there for a few years now and I REALLY want to ride Ikon.

now this is a vlog i didn't want to end,loved it so much,i spent a lot of my childhood at blackpool pleasure beach,and it gave me my love of theme parks and ultimately disney/universal and also port aventura in spain.The rides are so nostalgic for me,i went on alice in wonderland as a child and then took my children on the same ride,the river caves were one of my faves also.The big dipper and ghost train were faves also.its funny that the fun house you went on at hyde park winter wonderland,totally reminded me of the old fun house at blackpool that burnt down in a fire.

I rode the Alice in Wonderland ride in 1986 and i don't think it has changed since then! If you get the chance to see the Illuminations on one of your visits, please vlog that too.

Whoa, that would be neat to see roller coasters right around your window. It looks like a pleasant area and nice breezes. I am not big on roller coasters so my fellow would ride on them with our daughter when she was little. We loved the Wallace and Gromit movies. I think the one we liked the most was the one with the penguin. The close shave was pretty cute too.

Probably the late 90's when i last went to Blackpool, to ride the Big one or Pepsi Max back then. I think it's a guilty pleasure for some people, but i think it's grotty seaside resort that targets stag and hen weekends. I must say the river ride looked great, yet it looked like it needs some finishing touches specially the exit. I recall going on the Alice in wonderland ride back in 82 and it gave me nightmares as a kid 🤣. Glad you enjoyed it 👍👍

As I said about your Alton Towers vlog, it is so nice to see your reactions to all of the parks that I have grown up with and it was also nice to see you looked into some of the history of the park before before you went! :) Also the flying machines are one year older than the river caves opening in 1904 on which was once sand! Another little fact that I thought may interest you was that when Walt Disney was doing research for the design of Disneyland he visited Pleasure Beach many times and became friends with some of the management team. When Disneyland opened Walt released the rights to Alice in Wonderland to the Pleasure Beach for the ride to be built in Blackpool a few years later as a thank you for their help and expertise which helped him design Disneyland! Great vlog though glad you both enjoyed :)
