I am pretty new to poker and I joined a 1/2 table a few days ago. I am a student so it is actually pretty significant stakes for me. I ended up with pocket 4s out of position and I raised pre flop and got 1 caller. Flop is 7 4 T so I keep the pressure and bet a little under pot size. He calls. Turn is a 3 and I am feeling pretty confident and raise again, about pot size again I think. I am pretty short stacked compared to the other player so he decides to put me all in. I think for a little bit and I make the call. He shows T 3o and I am feeling pretty nice. He only has two outs and wouldn’t you know it…he hits the ten. My first real bad beat in live poker and it hurts… I appreciate the final tip you made because I felt like such a loser after that hand and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. It helps hearing that it is a part of the game and hands like that will happen. Just a shame that I got such a cooler in one of my first live games

before you ask yourself what you did wrong, first ask if you even did anything wrong. poker at the end of the day is stll a game of chance. you maximize your odds, but theres still a chance you lose even when you do everything perfectly. thats part of it. more often than not you'll win in that situation, so just keep at it and eventually it balances itself out.

I think you got it in good with one card to come. Bad luck that hand. Shake it off and rebuy.👍🏻

You did well. It happens. Imagine that same scenario 100 times on that turn. How many times do you think his 10 or 3 come? Not as many times as your 4s take the pot down. You did well. It's a slam dunk call every time.

I have a question, at point 10 you said no limping into the blind because it announces weakness, but could this not be a good thing? For example maybe you limp with the intention to make yourself appear weak, this way some other guy may feel a lot more confident and he raises by a ton. Or is this just too risky?
@MrExcessum6 ай бұрын
I think he is just stating general rules. If you are playing with people whos habbits and tells you already know, for example tight players who will fold anything when you raise preflop bcs they know you only do it with great hands, its ok to mix it up a bit. Being predictable in poker is not a good thing. But again, he is stating the rules, its up to you to know when and if to break them.
@MrSpectralio5 ай бұрын
he also said multiple times, do not try to be cute and do the obvious thing. Limping with the absolute nuts is trying to be cute. It can get you massively paid, but a lot of the times it will get you underpaid
@mercster3 ай бұрын
The problem with general "rules of thumb" like these... everything is situational. These rules are for fairly high level of play, where everyone at the table is more or less rational with decent decision making skills. There is always a human factor involved, which is what makes poker the most interesting. If it was all down to some mathematical formulas, there wouldn't be much to play over.
@MrSpectralio3 ай бұрын
@@mercster true, my home games (no real experienced players there, purely for fun) you would be more likely to be called when going all in with the nuts then to do a reasonable bet. Cause they assume you are bluffing and/of everyone thinks their hand is better :D

@@MrSpectralio Right... I play in one place where everyone is a maniac, bad decisions all over the place. Lots of rules go out the window and you have to play fairly conservatively.

I have a question regarding playing with beginners. If my hand is weak (e.g. 8,3 offsuit) and everyone has only paid the minimum preflop (e.g. big blind), should I just limp in as well to see the flop?

Hello. Off suit A2,A3,A4… A9 not recommended? Bit new here and would like to understand why
@bix31345 ай бұрын
Ax suited is to try for a "flush draw".If we get a flush and since we have Ace, we know we are sure to win.(The opponent may also have a flush but he can only have a king atmost) With off suited we can atmost only make a straight which is A2345, which is highly unlikely and you also need t understand that our opponent may have those highest hands so Ax ofsuit is not reccomended.

89 on the J75 flop vs AA has a 24% chance of winning according to what you said inbthe video but with four six's and four ten's that's a total of eight cards times four on the flop is 32% and times two on the turn is 16%. Can you please explain the 24% math? Thanks
@djg11693 Жыл бұрын
On the flop, a six is not an out since there is no five on the flop (It's J72 in video). There are four outs (any ten) on the flop. Four times four is 16%. The rule of four is only an approximation. The real percent chance to win with 89 is 24% because of runner runner on the turn and river of both spades or 5 and 6 or 8 and 8 or 8 and 9 or 9 and 9. All these backdoor draws add an extra 8% of equity to the rule of four 16% equity.

1. ALWAYS PLAY STRONG ACE AK , AQ , AJ 2. Pocker Pairs 33 , 77 , AA 3. BRoadways KQ , KJ , QJ 4. Suited Connectors 7,8,89,9,10 5. Suited Aces A2, A4 , A9 etc What is Limping? In poker, to Limp means to call the big blind pre-flop, instead of raising or folding. This is typically seen as a passive play and can indicate a player has a weak or mediocre hand. "Top Mistakes at Low Stakes Poker: Too Much Limping" Pre-flop Limping: Low stakes games have a lot of pre-flop limping compared to higher stakes games. Limping is common in 1-2 tables but rare in 5-10 tables. Reasons for Limping: Many low stakes players play for entertainment and want to see as many flops as possible. Lack of strategy among these players, leading to limping with many hands. Consequences of Limping: Limping players are not properly punished due to a lack of aggressive players. Costs money when good players apply pre-flop pressure. Strategic Advice: Avoid limping too often with too many hands without a plan. Frequent limping correlates with playing too many hands. Limping with medium strength and trashy hands while raising strong hands makes you predictable and easy to exploit. Balancing Strategy: A balanced strategy is important; frequent limping often leads to unbalanced play. Aggressive approach with marginal hands is better than limping. Limping a lot and only raising strong hands makes it easy for opponents to counter. Improvement Tips: Turn some of the worst limps into folds to reduce the number of hands played. Focus on raising more hands pre-flop to avoid becoming predictable. 6. if AK raise more. Aggressive is win 7. Raise 3x if oppenent is limper or when youre underdog 8. Have a postflop plan to attack: Apply pressure on the flop, turn and river 9. Make a flip continuation bet make a c-bet first 3 flop bet 50% and if they check raise do often even if didnt hit flop 10. What if they raised - If nothing fold but if one pair call 11. When should you bet the turn? Good Draw or top pair Raise with good card bet the flop and they call anything that turns bet again if you have pair check 12. wHEN YOU SHOULD bet the river ? If have top pair or better 9 8 hearts bet the flop and they call go c/c river comes 9 q 4 5 8 Bet again But if you have A 9 hears go check or call 13. Check and give up also never bluff the fish 14. if they bet 1/2 pot or less call 15. accept bad beats
