Falaka island was an Iraqi stronghold during gulf war 1. We dropped daisy cutters on them. The British thought we dropped nukes. Call sign Mamba-1 dropped. Marines and sailors went on the island after the drop for BDA. Their words, “those dudes were bags of broken bones and water.”

As a supporter of Evan and BRC from the beginning THIS is the discussion Ive been looking for. The high level of intelligence combined with humbleness is a rare and beautiful thing to witness and such an important character trait practiced by true leaders. I believe that this clear, honest and logical thought process is the key to success in any field and Evan breaks it down so eloquently here. Bravo sir and thank you for sharing this as an example for all men and women to strive for in the way they make decisions and apply themselves. The experiences and mindset shared here are extremely unique and rarely broken down in such detailed conversation. We can only hope in this most important time in our history that people across the world can merely take a single lesson from this treasure trove of brilliance. Thanks again to Evan and Co. for showing what true leadership and values look like. We will continue sending support your way!

People in the world with the intelligence and courage to understand and solve complex problems is not that rare. When you find a person that understands complex topics on a high level and can also explain said subjects in a clear and concise way is when you have something special. In this case you have a dude that has a legendary military career then retires and birthes a billion dollar company selling coffee. Evan Hafer is proof positive of what we are capable of if we devote ourselves to something and completely focus on it. Listening to this conversation makes me so hopeful for our future and our capabilities as a human race if more people just had this humble, logical way of viewing the world. Such a badass modern man this dude is. Much respect

I was in Kirkuk 04/05. Lived in the patrol base by the communist party building in the north part of the city. We had 3 different ODAs rotate out of the safe house in the middle of our patrol base. Did more than a few raids with them. When Evan said Kirkuk in the time frame made my ears perk up. Funny story about them. We were doing a raid and we had to secure SFs GMVs while the ODA went into this house with the Iraqi Cops. This weapons sergeant is trying to explain the smaw d to me because I was going to be in the turret. Me: that is way too complicated to give me a 30 sec training on. I’ll just grab one of our AT4s. He looked at me like me like I was the stupidest person alive.

I'm jealous of what you guys have with your company... I got out in 09 and got my bachelors of science in economics to get a corporate job some time later as an analyst... Corporate has no team values and will sacrifice you and anyone else at the drop of a dime to get a promotion etc. Everyone suits up to wear a mask in an office to manipulate and wait for the right time to pull the rug out from under you! 15 years out and I'm constantly talking about how much I miss serving. Even considered going back in as an officer with the raised age limits but it wouldn't be the same because I'd be going into something that I didn't evolve in/with.

I have adhd and as an electrician sometimes it can hinder me. But 9 times out of 10 I will get a call and the peco guy is scratching his head how the line could’ve blew and I just see the wires, the burn marks going in the pipe, aerial etc and say ohhh maybe this happened and they look at me like I have 6 heads. And sure enough I figure it out for their reports and how we can prevent situations like that in the future. That’s interesting about the cqb thing. This was a fascinating podcast to listen to

At this house we fly “de oppresso liber” We (all roommates) agree that with the current situation the red white and blue could only be flown upside down. Or along side “no step on snek” Even then…… I personally feel “de oppresso liber” is far more applicable to out current state of existence

Would you recommend joining the military right now? I'm a 33 year old male and recently split up with my daughters mother. I do sheet metal and am just bored with life. Feel like I lost my purpose. I'm a journeyman sheet metal worker but regret not joining when I was younger. I feel like I need to serve my country but an worried about serving under our current administration. Any thoughts?

If your sole concern is the current administration, governments change all the time, the work doesn't really change. The job is one of those that's kinda one foot in/one foot out of the political arena. Yeah, higher ups will always have their agenda's and political aspirations that'll inevitably trickle down to the guys at the bottom of the totem pole, but for the most part it doesn't impact the day to day work all that much. The biggest thing I think you'll face is that you will be the "old man." You'll be the only one (at least very likely) above the age of twenty during your basic training, and you'll be going to a unit where you'll be taking orders from dudes much younger than you. By the time you'll be at the point where you'll have enough experience, and the rank to go with it that you won't be everyone else's bitch, you'll be at the age that most dudes who make a career out of it wanna be when they retire. If you can make peace with that, then by all means, full send it!
