Hiked Blackrock back in 1995. Tough going up, but, I agree, the views are great!

You were right about the shrubs with the purple stems… wild thornless blackberries! Very easy to identify once you see them a few times :)

The wife and I are staying just 10 miles north of pinnacle park at mile high campground this week. Views from over 5400 feet overlooking the smokies. We plan on driving down and tagging Waterrock knob. Yellow face to if she feels up to it. The views u had were fantastic thanks for sharing.

If you do Yellow Face you should try to push farther to Blackrock which is much, much better

The Plott Balsams are such an underrated range.

They are, not enough public land though.

Nice hike with some great views from the top! Any other trails in Sylva that you recommend?
@bigzach3224 жыл бұрын
Well you can hike up to The Pinnacle from Sylva, beginning in Pinnacle Park. There aren't a lot of trails near the town, you'll have to drive up to the parkway.

@@bigzach322 Got it. Thanks! We will be driving up to the Blue Ridge parkway to check out Waterrock Knob. Cheers

@@MetroOnTheMove That's a very short hike so if you want more hiking you can include this or go in the opposite direction towards Black Balsam Knob.

Awesome hike, my friend. I'm surprised this area is not very well known, considering how spectacular the views were...but perhaps it gets a little overshadowed by the nearby Smokies and all the waterfalls in the Nantahala??? That part of NC is virtually unknown to me, never done any exploring out that way, but from you video I should looking into checking it out one day. Glad you survived that climb on the return to Blackrock peak, that kind of gain in a short distance sounds brutal!

Most people probably stop at Waterrock Knob, but I doubt even that many people go there compared to the neighboring Smokies and Great Balsams. Pinnacle Park is well-known to locals, but I think because Blackrock sits midpoint of both trails it is harder for many people to reach.
