I always love it when you go into games I’ve never heard of. Plus, you dive into game OSTs, which sometimes go unnoticed!

Yooo, this vid was so fucking SPOT ON with regards to the vibe and general feeling, holy shit! xD Regardless if it's intentional or not, this review kind of felt like a Noir in a really nice, chill way :3

To answer you on the handling of discrimination in the graphic novels, it's a veeeerrrrryyyyy sloooooow burner. Hell the first 3 tomes don't even talk about it all. Then again the cases that John has to deal with in the first 3 stories put him in a black and FRESHLY ARRIVED Irish immigrants heavy environment and because of the duality of that make up it's not much of a discussion before the 4th story. The handling is fairly sensible but the build up to it being a CENTER STAGE conversation in the story is looonnng.

Not really for me that Telltale kept the genre alive as much as it just launched a reboot with some tweaks, and it's not the same for me, either. For me adventure games are mainly meant to be point-and-click and have lots of puzzle solving, item-collecting and repeatable dialogue trees. We used to call the genre "logic games" in my country. Speaking of classic point-and-click adventures, ever heard of "Syberia"? Absolutely one of the most emotionally and narratively touching games ever, it's peak games-as-art to me.

Seems interesting! Would you recommend starting with the new one or going back and playing the whole series?
@SEGAClownboss2 жыл бұрын
@@EmceeProphIt i haven't played 3 and newer ones but there are people who feel the sequels are very unwarranted. Games 1+2 both had a single story that ended beautifully and there was no incentive to further it. 1+2 are kind of like Sonic 3+Knuckles in development, it was intended to be a single game but it got too big.

Okay, the comics: First one is about a murder mystery. Second is about racial tensions. Third is about the Red Scare and the Cold War. Fourth was about the Blues, New Orleans, capitalism, drug addictition, exploitation. Fifth, was, um, a road trip? I honestly don't remember much about that one. 1 and 2 I think are the best. But all of them have gorgeous art.

Oh boy, another nice vid! I always love hearing about games and settings I've never known of before, and this one sounds like it's got some history to it as a graphic novel series. The discrimination seems like an... interesting inclusion, especially if it's so minor, but everything else seems real interesting

If i remember correctly, only one storyline in the comics really deal race. It's basically just as clunky but they do commit to it more than Under the Skin does. The comics are also really pretty. Under the Skin does not so the art justice.

If you haven't already heard of the Nancy Drew games, I'd high suggest them. I have a love for point and click and have been playing those since I was super young. The first 3 games kinda have that 90s difficulty, but games 4 - 25 are all solid choices. I feel like a lot of people write them off as some sort of shallow experience, but that's far from it. As games go on too, there is a large universe that connects all the games together. Genuinely good point and click puzzle games. And I highly suggest 👍

There are some games where individual choices don't matter but sticking to a theme does. Not the case here? I kind of blame TTG for so many authors I'm following only doing one chapter a month. Some of them have multiple routes aggravating the problem. For more old timey problems there's Sherlock Holmes Chapter One if you're interested. Bit of an "origin story" thing. Kind of wish the moreau series got a game like this. Shares a name with that one island story but it's about super soldiers and their descendants trying to live normal lives. One of the protags is a tiger PI. They got a Choice Of game at least but it doesn't seem to put as much faith in the reader as the old books.

”Blacksad is racially black”. Not, necessarely. I think he doesn't fit either white or black, since he has both colors on him. This makes him even more of an outsider, like most film noir-detectives should be. In the second comic about racial tensions, we see both extreme sides rejecting Blacksad as one of them. Also, Hitler was a cat. Also, in the comics, we briefly see one picture of Australia, where the people living are depicted as Australia's native fauna (kangaroos, platypus, koala etc.)

didn't they just have the racial undercurrent bcause it's part of th setting? it's what it sounds like from your video.

I guess I was just a little surprised it wasn't something focused on. That's not really a bad thing, just not what I expected. It just kinda gets brought up like it's a big thing, then immediately dropped.

@@EmceeProphIt oh, I get it. I'm just trying to make sense of why they did it. sadly I never took he time to look into the comic book itself, So I can't really say if it's a thing here too.
