This is a new type of paint some might not be familiar with. It is not really oil paint, it is “oil enriched” often called “Alkyd” and is soap and water clean up due to the unique way it is made. I’m really loving using this paint for darks and blacks and then still using my one step paint recipe paint for lighter colors bc it saves me so much money on my business (see video here for 1 step paint recipe- kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZ6okqKwi7eghpI

I had trouble because I'm a newbie and can make any project complicated. But!! I used 220 grit sandpaper to sand down some strange lines that appeared in the paint on my 3rd layer and repainted the paint/poly layer. It smoothed down my mistakes and made a huge difference! So, I'm using 220 in between paint coats from now on. Also, I used a small roller - good for smaller drawers, etc. But, I've now figured out that I need a larger roller for the table top! The larger the roller, the less lines! I did two end tables by the way. Thank you for this video! Your paint and roll method is the best I've found so far to reduce brush marks!!!

I’ve watched a TON of furniture painting videos over the past month. This one was the most helpful to avoid streaks. I can’t believe the difference in techniques. I’ve tried another one before yours and my nightstand was LOADED with bubbles. Yours did the same process, but with a different amount of paint and roller pressure. Yours worked perfectly for me. Thank you so much!

I paint a lot of black. I use a Behr flat black and mix in a smidge of almost an eggplant color. I call it ‘antique black’. Behr is great at self leveling and smoothing itself out. You can mix a glossy or satin poly into the last coat if you don’t want a flat finish. The purple tint doesn’t show but somehow helps hide the defects. My late grandpa taught me that. I love the black on black, great piece!

Do you have to buy the higher grade Behr paint? What prep method do you do? Prime? I will try the eggplant touch next time I paint in black :)

Great question: Its not a true oil based paint, it’s a hybrid and it’s newer to the market. I find that the “oil enriched” “alkyd” type of paint that is labeled 🧼 💦 soap and water clean up works great mixed with water based polyurethane. ❤️

Hopefully you’ll answer this I’m finished with painting my cabinets and trying to apply my top coat and it’s going horrible!😩 so many streaks! But watching your video I’m tempted to add it to my paint and do one more coat. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
