It can pass through either the work lead or the positive lead. Truly it depends on how you prefer to weld. Either DCEN or DCEP will work for most steel, BUT you have to be on your game if you are going to run DCEP TiG.

Instead of leather you should use a thermocontractable insulator on that electric connection. It is safer and doesn't gather moist within like leather does.

Ive got a quick question. What did you make your bevel jig from? Im having a hell of a time getting bevels to be anywhere near even. Im also working on building a treadle hammer based on your design. Getting it built as a more portable version to take back and forth from college to use in our smithing club we started.

Could a rocker on/off pedal be incorporated? I know that the infinite heat wouldn't be there but might allow for amateurs like me better control ;)
@thomasarussellsr4 жыл бұрын
Maybe as an on/off switch for the power lead to the wall? Just a thought. I am fairly certain I have seen foot pedals for 240V and 480V, but you'd have to search, most likely.

Sorry Tim, but technically speaking, if you have a welder over 300A that you made yourself from another welder, it is supposed to be painted either purple with yellow polka dots or zebra striped. The laws in your area may be different, but generally, that's it. I enjoy TIG welding. I'm not good at it, but it's fun. Enjoy your new/used welder.

I wouldn't call myself a welder either. However, I did build a 5' x 8.5' utility trailer, with a 4.5' a frame tongue, from an old boat trailer axle, geo metro coil springs, and bed frame angle and repeatedly hauled over a ton on it with a 2x8 pine floor to the metal scrap recycle, engine blocks, iron wood stoves, and such over a period of 12 years before the first "weld" broke. Just happened to be a weld at the spring to frame (at the scrapyard), so I scrapped the trailer too. I ended up buying a 4'x8' 3/4 ton (rated to 1765 lbs) foldable trailer at Harbor Freight just a few days beforehand so I already had a replacement.
