I bought a gas forge from Dan and it’s just awesome! I bought a two segments with two burners and two doors. It heats up very fast. It runs calmly (not a big roar) unless you run it at max. The outside doesn’t become extremely hot. It’s well insulated, I have the version without K-wool but with the fire resistant bricks. This is good no unhealthy K-wool fibers and the bricks are very easy to shape. The forge is very versatile. I can also use it half by putting some bricks halfway and run it with one burner. It’s really not comparable with cheap forges you see around. This is a sturdy, robust, durable, well insulated, well built and designed forge. I’m very happy with it and can recommend this to every blacksmith! Thank you Dan!

Dan, I'm in the USA and would very much be interested in getting one of these forges! At the very least, I want to get one or maybe two of the burners! Thanks so much for your videos and the projects you do! This DOES look like and EPIC forge!

Awesome forge! For the door, have considered having one that runs on a track sideways? That way if the track was sloped the door would be self closing.

Looks like a great concept to sell as a kit Dan’, particularly as one with different options of inclusions (ie with or without burners, refractory etc). I wonder if there’d be interest in a slightly smaller one as well? I built a gas forge of a slightly larger volume than yours, built from an old gas bottle and using two of the Gameco burners and with the ability to block it off part way along to reduce the volume and close off one burner. It works well like that but I ended up building a much smaller one with one burner for small tasks and I’m finding that I use that quite a bit for small simple tasks.

I agree, i built a tiny gas forge (would not fit a fist but the cavity is quite long) a while ago. The thing burns something like a pound of gas an hour at most using an old plumbing torch on an 11kg bottle which lasts for months when forging once a week as a hobby. I love that thing. SO useful for making gardening knives, chisels, punches, nails, rivets and all that stuff...

Hi Dan Thanks for another great video! That is a very nice looking forge you have built. Unfortunately in Perth Australia we dont have access to the same range of refractory or other forge building products at anything like a reasonable price. So we are left to cobble together what we can. Subsequently Im really looking forward to future videos covering your thoughts and ideas on forge building so that I can steal them. Maybe then I will finish up with a forge that isn't always in need of an upgrade. Thanks again mate for the inspirations and demonstrations that you put out.

@@stephentero3077 Thanks for the info. I have looked at all these sources in the past but most of the products they supply are targeted at pottery kilns that operate at lower temps than blacksmiths forges. Im still looking for a mad scientist who produces good quality high temp refractory that lends itself to DIY. FYI have a look at Clicksprings videos. He did one on a furnace build about a week ago and he referenced some Australian products if your interested. Thanks again.

I might be interested in a kit, but that would depend on pricing (shipped) along with estimated gas usage/hour. Could you cover that information in an upcoming video?
@danielmoss20893 жыл бұрын
Cost needs a little more planning but this is a well built forged designed with mid market value so I doubt it will be like a cheap forge but I want it to be cheaper than a top end. Kits will also be cheaper cause your doing the expensive bit. I also have a flat rate for shipping. I can give gas usage when the door is sorted. Ill keep you posted.

Nice build. Why not use refractory all the way around instead of using kao wool? I've worked with all of this in the molten metal industry and know that know kao wool will burn out quicker and it stays in the air and is not good for the lungs.

Well fabricated forge, you do nice work. Nevertheless, IMHO, it's way overbuilt. A forge built from an old propane bottle is every bit as efficient, and much easier to construct. If you want an even more efficient design, use a single-line blown ribbon burner angled tangent to the radius of your cylinder. This creates a swirl flame which burns much longer within the chamber, imparting more heat to the forge.
