(^___^) it is possible but the pop is much slower than wood+wheels so it takes some getting used to...
@PHeMoX3 жыл бұрын
@@islandblacksmith Yeah it'll be hard. However, if you try to pop low, flick slightly late and really drag the front foot up, you can definitely kick flip this. Your DIY board has a steep enough tail anyway, which is probably the most important part about it. Good build! And loving the Ninja boots dude.

@@PHeMoX yes, it certainly does! ...and thanks!

I have never thought of working plastic that way, but it makes perfect sense. Blacksmithing is plastic deformation, too!
@islandblacksmith6 жыл бұрын
it works to a limited extent depending on the material, can be useful though!

Looks really good! Is it stiff enough to pop? Does it track? What about grooves on the bottom? Also, foam grip concave looks spectacular!!! You should do a "how to" video just for the grip. Good job!
@islandblacksmith6 жыл бұрын
when it is cold it has reasonable pop and stiffness enough to boardslide, but not as much as a wood board...i have made others with grooves but am pretty happy with this configuration more like a snowboard with just edges...

Was the material mentioned? Wondering where I get a sheet of whatever that is up her in the Great White North (BC Canada 🇨🇦, eh)

I'm just about creating my third version of a DIY snowskate, each year making it one better than the last - How did you manage to get the finish on the grip so smooth around the edges? MIne ends up ripping and peeling off around edges after first use (i use standard craft foam?)
@islandblacksmith5 жыл бұрын
this is eva, the stuff shoe insoles are made from, and it is fairly stiff compared to some of the stuff out there...when i shape the edges i pretty much try to do it right in one cut with an exacto/razor but if there are issues i fix them with a coarse rasp...45 degree angle helps prevent damage too...

Nice job! Now if you grab a router and make some channels in the bottom it will give you more control. (you probably know this already but just in case! cheers)
@islandblacksmith5 жыл бұрын
the first prototypes years ago had 2 channels (a tablesaw/fence with a dado blade, after bending the ends up, is the best way to make them) but for more advanced riders i find the smooth snowboard-like bottom buys a bit more speed while the edges still provide a reasonable amount of control...as with most things it is a trade-off...
