There is no need to spoil a video with your ego.

I was trying to figure out why the blade was bowed until I saw how well it handles tasks usually performed by a hatchet. Thanks for sharing this amazing little tool.
@AndTheCorrectAnswerIs5 жыл бұрын
Except that hatchets AREN'T bowed....so I still can't think of a reason for the bowed blade. In fact this is NOT the shape of a bill hook knife at all. Bill hooks are shaped like a hook, with the inside edge sharpened. They are straight along the blade edge, and are meant for chopping limbs and cutting small branches off of trees.
@angelaabrams91085 жыл бұрын
@@AndTheCorrectAnswerIs well, if you consider most bits have mirror concave areas between the edge and the eye, they do bow. Either way, they do get thicker as you move towards the handle. By putting a bow in his blade and giving the edge a chisel grind with the flat on the concave side, he's replicating that. The metal doesn't get thicker, but the bow and edge work like a wedge larger than he could get with a flat blade alone.
@latemcire83875 жыл бұрын
Cool project! You could run an eye hook through the scroll as a pivot point and use it as a block knife to make kindling or dowel stock.

This type of billhook is not a common one among the billhook genre. This type of bill hook is a Hertfordshire pattern billhook. Your Scandinavian bill hook is so different from Asian and Indian bill hooks . You did Excellent work as always . Thanks for your video and all the best .
@phillee28145 жыл бұрын
Very different to anything used in the UK or described in Wikipedia under that name, too. Not that it detracts from the workmanship in the least, but it certainly wouldn't be anything like the tool I would expect if I ordered a billhook for hedge-laying, brush cutting, or any similar task. That would have a blade which started almost straight near the handle, then curved inwards towards the curved (or hooked) end, creating the bill.
@QuantumMechanic_885 жыл бұрын
Phil Lee - The bill hook of India and Thailand is quite different and I lived in India and SE Asia for a few years . There are 4 Indian and Asian bill hooks in my collection and have made 3 . I lived in Kent for 2 years and never saw anyone using a bill hook . ATB
