I have watched all of the videos in this series, and have to say... What a wealth of information. As a hobby blacksmith one of the areas that has always intrigued me was mechanical blacksmithing. Hopefully soon I will start to design and build my own forged padlock. Thank you Dennis

Denis, thank you for the study & research you had to do to learn how to do this. And THANK YOU for sharing it here! This has been a great series. Now I'll have to go try to make a lock similar to this one! ;)

fascinating to see how they made these things and their inner workings. Thank you.

Thanks, Denis, for this series. Your precision and explanation of details is just right. I must say, though, that I can hardly wait for you to begin to share your forging projects with us (the world). Keep forging!

Haven't commented on each video, as I watched it via the play-list that automatically played the next video at the end of each one. Great video series that would be quite easy to follow to build my own. Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial.

Really complex project broken down to simple logical steps! Really enjoyed this series. I do not think there are many folks who can just build a lock from scratch these days. Thank you, Be Well Dennis

I was unpacking just now and found a book on locksmithing that inspired me some 15 years ago - yes, the Spruce Forge Manual of Locksmithing. I only noticed now that you're one of its authors, Denis! Thanks again!

That's great! We were wondering who bought that book. LOL

May never make one, but was great to view. Still going to do something for a replacement key for this kind of lock? (I am sure you can find an old door lockset from the 1920s around, to play with). Thanks for your time, effort, and willingness to share your hard earned knowledge.

I did find a lock so the next video will be on making a spare key - If all goes well? I've read about it but never tried it.

I gave out a little, "Woo-hoo!" when you closed, then opened the lock at the end. Really neat and interesting series: I have a tangible desire to build one now. Could you make a hand-crank can opener that doesn't disintegrate after 6 months? That is a project that I am looking to build. I have my own ideas and plan; but I am curious to see the angles at which you would tackle such an object. With many simple devices being made in China out of inferior materials, I think there is a market for everyday devices that are hand-made, quality construction with potential to last lifetimes.

Interesting idea. Solving this problem would truly make the blacksmith King Of All Trades.

Do you sell these locks dennis?
@df-intheshop3306 жыл бұрын
I've thought about it but the problem is how to get the price down low enough that people will buy it. I have a new website and will be looking for a product line if you have any ideas.

How much time did it take you to make this lock? What would you charge for the lock from this video? Would you send a link to your website?
