"primitiv Form of milling machine" made my day. Thank you for showing off the versatility of chiseles in so many of your videos. As a beginner most blacksmithing channels overwhelm me with expensive machinery and its nice to see I don't need any of that. Cheers!

My first forge is under the Christmas tree right now, and I’m really excited about getting into this craft. All of your videos make blacksmithing seem so much more accessible than so many of the other channels I see (with their power hammers, and other expensive equipment). Thank you!

What an excellent series on the Nuremberg box! You should have way more people watching this.! -I did my apprenticeship in Nuremberg, in another metal craft, but this town used to be THE centre of metal works in the medieval period. There are so many fascinating projects yet to be made if you ony think of Nuremberg. The only thing that is not so strictly true is, that there where no means of measuirng available. Nürnebrg actually was also a center for the making of precision instruments...

I do agree with you. That statement did not come across the way I wanted. I wasn't suggesting that they did not have the ability to measure or work accurately. I was trying to say that measuring, as we understand it and use it today, was in it infancy in the 1300 -1500's. My thinking is ( and this is just assumptions on my part not research ) that without machine tools that can be dialed-in to remove a specific amount the process of establishing a numerical value on how much still needed to be removed to make a part fit would have been pointless. I think they would have been using dividers, calipers and shop made go-no-go type gauges to work to and not using micrometers and dial indicator to set up lathes and milling machines the way we do it today. Again I'm just using the tools I know that they had to try to figure out the process. I certainly welcome any thoughts you have .

@@df-intheshop330 Thanks for the in-depth answer. Now I am feeling a bit bad for being petty with that part of the video. I do think you have it right, especially now that you have answered. I do fully agree on that. But especially Nuremberg in that period ist at the ABSOLUTE forefront in mechanical machining as well. There is already a lathe with support being invented, mass production of wire, numerous specilalised casting manufacture, a high grade of division of labour and so forth...

Love your videos very educational

Lovely work. Now add a few more wards so that anything that fits the keyway doesn't open it, and it'll actually be vaguely secure against fiddling, as well as pretty secure against a force attack.
