Love the tip to make the header, old hammers are plentiful and cheap!

I had forgotten about these nails, Mr. Calhoun used these on Chuck wagons. This is also the first thing my Granddaddy taught me to make. He would laugh at me because I would work as fast as I could and alls I could get was 2 or 3 a minute and I can still hear him saying, "Boy you're gunna starve to death you're so slow" my responce was "Good thing we can buy nails cheeper than the steel to make them" I got very good at cleaning the chicken coops because of my mouth.

I'm pretty sure you're the only person on youtube and definitely in my own experience that has shown how to make and use a clinch nail. Thank you. Keep up the good work we all love watching it!

The English Woodworker has a very watchable video using clinched nails to make a tool chest. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZ-wp4eYpq-Mo6M

I never knew there was a difference in the nails. It makes perfect sense. Thank you for demo-ing this.

There isn't in most applications but I have seen this done on chests with more elaborate hardware. I don't know if it was a common practice or just something that smith did ( another Craftsmanship Project question ) but it does a great job of limiting the scarring you normally get with clenched nails.
