Not that it matters, although they do help block the heat they were originally produced to help block the wind from blowing out you fire. That was one of the biggest complaints with the older style Blackstones was that design made it like a wind tunnel and it was hard to keep the flame going on a windy day. But yes they do work well for both reasons.

Just did it to mine and works great. On my model (blackstone 4 burner) I just used the factory screws in the brackets for the side shelves. There was plenty of threads to do it. Further, at the hinge point there was a 3/16" gap between the two brackets on both sides so I just used 1" Screws, Washers (3 each side) to take up the space in-between the brackets and then a nylon insert nuts. Works great. Like other comments I opened it and closed it dozens of times, seemingly fascinated by this. And of course we're cooking with her tonight because welll...I'm excited to use it. Thanks for your video!!

Do you think it's just because those "feet" make contact with the cooking surface when the lid is down? I'm considering doing your hinge modification, and then putting in a different foot/support, maybe in the corners near the front of the unit, and removing the existing "feet". Thoughts?
