Hello Wade Thomas Great review!!! I totally agree that there are candle makers in various stages of their business!!! I am at the stage where I am trying to decide my branding. I feel confident in my candles but having trouble deciding on colors and labels!!! I want to work with wood wicks to compare them to the cotton wicks, however, the wood wicks are pretty pricey to me compare to the cotton wicks. But, I do plan to buy some so I can determine which would be better. Keep the reviews and any other tutorial coming. I am really enjoying your channel!!! I can't wait until I can send my products in for a review!!!

The key to wood wicks is TEST TEST TEST and TEST! Once you get that nailed your golden, I use different wood wicks for the same vessel I have because each fragrance oil reacts differently

@@Vrie. I think it depends on the wax. My wax doesn't like them... I've tried numerous FOs and no luck.

@tarot2271 I agree to this. I have to F.O., two different wooden wick sizes, but the same tin size. Both size wicks work. When it came to another F.O. the consistency was horrible. F.O. definitely plays a factor

I have watched over 3 hours of your videos in the last week and a half or so, I am very eager and ready to dedicate a lot of time and work into crafting candles, I have not made a candle yet, but I am thinking I will be starting with cotton wicks, they seem like the better wick to learn with.

I just started with a kit last Thursday, I was not impressed with the kit, the scents were basically non existent, anyways, I purchased some more fragrances and am having a lot of fun, but I do have questions, when I pour the wax into the vessel the wick's keep coming up from the bottom, also, how do I measure out the correct amount of wax to use?? I keep melting to little. Thanks Wade, best wishes.
@BlackTieBarn2 жыл бұрын
@@kodeethompson6699 Hi Kodee. Quite a bit to unpack here but here are the short answers. 1) Are you securing your wick to the bottom with good quality wick stickers? Certain jars have issues with this as well if they aren't flat on the bottom. If wick stickers are not working, try Red RTV from a home improvement store. 2) Measuring correct amount of wax for your candles is too long of an answer or too difficult to explainin a comment. But check out this video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpObgKZ9l7Joj6c 3) Yah, Ive never liked most kits to be honest. I plan to make one for candle makers here soon. :)
@kodeethompson66992 жыл бұрын
@@BlackTieBarn thank you very much for the response, the stickers it came with were more of a gel/glue consistency, I will keep trying and give different stickers a shot I think. Making a kit would be great of you to do. Thanks Wade.

Being new I have very little experience to have a valid opinion just yet, but I will say, I have loved wooden wicks since I first found out about them. I love the aesthetic and the ones that crackle. I originally thought I'd want to have wood wicks in my candles one day, and I still might....but I have to be honest and say the inconsistency I hear that comes with them, makes me draw away. Wicking can already be tough and adding more stress to it by using wood wicks is very daunting.

The more testing I do, the more I prefer cotton wicks. Personally, I find their HT to be stronger and their performance to be a little more consistent. I love the look and feel of wooden wicks, but I haven't had a lot of success with HT. Hey, any luck with getting subscriber suggestions for reaction to TikToks? Where do you want me to send mine? :p

Another great video Wade! Does the wick type play a role with hot throw?
@BlackTieBarn2 жыл бұрын
Yes... and no. It does in the sense that you want to find the beat type for your wax and jar to generate good melt pool and overall good performance. But to say, independent of everything else, that one wick type generates better HT over the other is probably a stretch. Or at the very least, hard to measure and evaluate. I match wick type to wax and jar and go for the best burn possible. If it throws good too... it's a winner. If, not...I move on. I won't degrade my performance with a non optimal wick I'm hopes that it may boost the scent throw. But that's just me. :)

I've read a lot of people say that you "can't" really use wood wicks in coconut wax, I made the dumb choice of getting a 100-pack of Ultimate wicks (.625), fell in love with Coconut Apricot Wax, made some test candles where I experienced tunnelling pretty bad. I am trying a test with C-6 wax today but ordered only enough for 2 candles. Do you have any recommendations or should I just shift to something more completely soy-based to work better with the abundance of wooden wicks I foolishly ordered (lol) ? Thank you, Wade!

It's just so satisfying watching your videos, i've learn a lot, i just have a question a, is it posible to layer different kind of wax in one vessel, Let say 1st layer=gel wax, 2nd layer=soy wax, 3rd layer=beeswax? If so, how would i know the wick i need to use? TIA and more power

I've watched a ton of your videos and I'm pretty sure you've said in the past that you use paraffin wax, is that still the case and if it is what wax do you use specifically? I just lit my first candle today using 444 soy wax (I only let it cure for about 4 days), and the hot throw was okay, but I'm worried that this is the best it gets with soy wax and now I'm considering the leap into paraffins or a parasoy blend. I have about 10 more candles lined up to be tested with different fragrances and wicks, so all hope isn't lost with the 444 wax, but figured it might be worth exploring other options.
@BlackTieBarn2 жыл бұрын
I use all sorts of waxes. Mostly parasoy blend but I use many kinds for different reasons. I'd suggest sampling a few to see what you like best

@@BlackTieBarn Thanks again for the response! Glad to hear that you like using parasoy blends. I really wanted to start with the BW-910 parasoy blend, but candlescience is out of stock, so I just ended up with 444. Which parasoy blends have you had the most success with?
