I have a number of big take aways and two of those are, "dream big, plan small" and "candles aren't going anywhere, you can have a piece of the pie." I have doubts on whether I have a place in the candle industry knowing that there are a lot of fantastic sellers and resellers already. I have think about candle making years before because I love candles but I have not really push myself to take risk because of my doubts like do i have the budget to start with?, will i ever make it? and many more. I really want to say thank you for your insights and generosity of sharing your knowledge, learnings and helping others like me to try. I am just so amazed on your goodwill and profound willingness to share your experiences with us. It is like able to find a brother, a mentor and a friend rolled into one. You are a great person and a wonderful blessing to humanity. Thank you so much and Happy New Year!

I started making candles a few weeks ago - just to give them as gifts at Christmas. I thought it should be quite easy: melt the wax - put in the wick - done. What could possibly go wrong? Well, it didn't work out as easy as I thought :-) I then did a lot of reading - among other things, I got to know your channel. And now I've spent the last few days creating an Excel "candle test" spreadsheet, I've placed several orders and I've even started thinking about names and a logo... And two test candles are currently burning next to me. Maybe it will remain a hobby, for giving candles as gifts. But your videos make me want to do more! Thank you very much and best wishes from Germany.

When I first watched a video from you, I wasn't very impressed. What can a guy know about candlemaking? 😄 But they kept showing up on my feed and I got interested. Dozens of videos and priceless knowledge later, I click on a new as fast as I can!! A huge thank you for all the incredible insight and practical info that would otherwise take maybe years of trial and error to figure out. You have helped me on my candlemaking/small business journey in immense way. Wishing you and Black Tie Barn all the best in 2025.🎉

🤣🤣 well thank you! But, you also might find it interesting to know that about 70% of the candle industry is made up of men (makers,owners, etc). Much jigher perfentage the further you go up in business size in in the industry! . But yah, I can understand you mean. :) Thanks so much for sticking around :)

I'm glad I got the chance to watch this in it's entirety because I am planning on eventually opening up my business. I make bath and body items but I am wanting to incorporate candles into it as well so I have been doing tons of research and watching some of Wade's videos as well as others. I like that you are precise with everything and tell it like it should be instead of being confusing like I've seen with some videos I've watched over the past year or so. I'm still researching though and I am planning on experimenting with candles very soon so I'm pretty excited about going into this.

I have subscribed to the channel and am eager as well as excited to learn from your other videos and check out your website. I really appreciate how you explain things in a way that is not only clear and easily understood but also kept my attention by how genuine and real you were! All the other content I watched I was lost or just bored after the first 5 minutes! Aside from all of the useful tips and knowledge, my biggest take away from this was was that extra boost of confidence and reminder that I can and I will do this! ThankYou for sharing your expertise, experience and most of all kindness!

Wade you have given me really great advice for making and starting a candle biz. I should have listened and used a respirator. I’m on the couch right now nursing really bad congestion. For 3 days I made candles and probably inhaled some toxins. I had fun but I will tweak the types of wax and scents I use. I will also use a respirator too. Thank you for all your advice and knowledge.

This is the video I needed a few months back. But, I'm actually glad I saw this after buying so many materials and purchasing my LLC. If I saw this before doing that, I probably would have chickened out! I am in the test phase now. I'm waiting for my vessels to come in. I know exactly what vessel I want to start. I am now brainstorming which direction to go for when I start selling larger sizes. Towards the end, you mentioned starting with 3 scents. I felt like a genius because that's what I decided to do. I want to come out with a few base fragrances that are universally liked. Afterward, I'll expand, mix, and match. I have a few people and groups I've been speaking to that would be interested in purchasing my candles. So after I get some income there I'll work on building my website. I may even do some pre-orders to get some funding before having the actual product. I, of course, have to take lead time from the supplier into consideration. I appreciate your transparency and thank you for not gate keeping. This has been a wonderful video that I will SURELY refer back to.

Business loading... September 2025🎉 thank you so much for your content! Also, I also heard to not worry about insurance until your business can pay for it, that if your business isn't selling enough to afford it then you probably don't have to be worried about even needing it in the first place. I definitely see where you're coming from though, general liability wouldn't hurt.

Love these vids every year! Only note I have, is if you're at all tech savvy, woo commerce is (in my humble opinion) much more customizable than shopify. I do think shopify is fab for an easy out of the box solution - but you'll never have the customization options that are available for woo. Thanks for the yearly tips vid though Wade, I always find value in them even after being (kind of) established!

How do you handle labeling multiple hand poured containers? The weights vary slightly & I often worry about the labeling.
@BlackTieBarn2 күн бұрын
You have a couple options. You can make sure each candle weighs the same as you're filling them. Or just make sure they're all at least the amount on the label so if your candle is a 7 oz label it's okay if some are 7 or 7.1 or 7.2 Etc

My take away is anyone can do this and it allows you to have flexible hours being your own boss which is what I need for my family. I never thought I would be interested in the candle making business, but I came across one of your videos a few months ago and you got me thinking about it and the more I have watched the more interested I have become. Then I came across some issues with my recent job that I have to let it go because it takes up too much of my time away from family and school. I have found myself thinking about the candle making business even more now and bought my first starter kit. I am just worried about the fact that I am in a small town of 2500 people or less and if I can make this work because I still have to provide for my family, which is all I am worried about the most with this. Is this possible to start and get going in such a small little town and provide an income that will provide for my family? If you do end up making a starter kit, please make a better one than the ones on Amazon cause the ones they have are pretty small. The melting pot looks like it only makes enough for 2 8oz candles. It's not what I expected at all for the price. I paid about $100 and this set up is super tiny. I feel like I just bought one of those little kid baking sets lol.
