The real Marvel Jesus. Blade saved Marvel from bankruptcy because the movie was a box office success, led to other studios to buy the spider-man and x-men rights and make movies of them and this led the Disney buying the other marvel characters and the MCU was born. The success of this movie also inspired Warner Bros to make a more gritty realistic Batman and hired Christopher Nolan to do it, Plus this movie inspired the Matrix and the video game Tekken. Also Stan Lee said Blade was his favourite Marvel character. Blade basically saved the live action superhero movie.

@@kaluminati731 in the 1990s you had Joel Schumacher Batman films where goofy and huge expensive flops and all the studios stopped making superhero movies as it was viewed as a dead genre that didn’t make money. So they were not going to make anymore Batman movies or superman movies. Blade was the only scheduled superhero movie that was more gritty and close to comic version of the character. When Blade made 300 million adjusting for inflation on a £45 million budget, it was the first Marvel character to be a success and proved there was still an audience for superheroes and this convince other studios to make live actions movies on spider-man and the x-men and this was because of blade

@@Delboy0 Batman Forever made a pretty good amount of money, especially for the mid 90s. Batman and Robin more or less broke even, and it was a bad movie. There were no plans to make additional Batman or Superman movies right away, but to assume that they never were again is pretty silly. Lois and Clark was a popular TV show. Batman had a popular long running cartoon series.

Cassie -- it's not that the gun vaporized the vampires, it's that vampires instantly burn to ash when they die. Blade's gun/s fired silver hollowpoint bullets filled with garlic, and he aimed for the head or the heart. (Hollowpoint bullets expand after being fired; they hit the body with a small hole, but the effect on body tissue after the initial entrance is... unpleasant.) The reason "Mr Crispy" regenerated is that Blade didn't kill him outright; he was pinned to the wall with stakes in non-vital parts of his anatomy. And the police put the fire out before he was consumed by it; therefore he was still "alive" and able to regenerate.
@beelzebub_jones
@beelzebub_jones Ай бұрын
I also remember when blade came out there was a website from the studio of lore about the vampires and there were not just vampires but they were clans, not exactly like vampire the masquerade but you could get some hints fo that and one of the clans, i forget its name, could regenerate. Now you have some understanding of why the fans exploded with joy when Blade made his cameo in D&W and said the iconic line. No overload of special effects, just fast action, great lines, and humor to take the edge off. Wesley Snipes had a great career before his legal troubles. You might want to check him out in New Jack City, To Wong Foo..., and White Men Can't Jump to see some of his non-action range. And, Cassie, you don't always have to do monsters and blood to be scared. There are some great horror thrillers out there that are really scary because they could possibly happen, like 47 Meters Down, Don't Look Now, and the original When A Stranger Calls. Look forward to the next Halloween-themed movie.

"The more younger people that finally discover this movie always shock me by not saying anything about Traci Lords being so prominently featured in the opening scenes" Generally speaking younger people aren't going to be intimately familiar with the career of an ex underage pornstar who was active in the 80's. I am in my 40's and had no clue who she was or what she was famous for before this film came out. And tbh I have been known to watch a lot of porn.... just not the illegal stuff, which is what she was in, albeit the people making the movies didn't know that, doesn't make the movies any more legal. Why would anyone in their 20s-30s have any clue who she is or why her being in this movie is a vaguely big deal?

In case anyone’s wondering, Curtis, Karen’s ex, is something that happens depending on vampire media. In some vampire lore depending on what you’re watching/reading/game playing, there is something called a ghoul. It’s like a vampiric slave, thrall, or zombie like creature that obeys a vampire that turns them. Depending on the media they may maintain human like appearance or go full zombie. Ghouls vary in vampire media but in Blade it’s an accidental thing that happens. Like how they said vampirism can be born with or contracted like a disease. In this lore it’s like another disease that comes along with vampirism. Hope that clarifies

Blade is very special and means a lot to comic book fans with regards to movies and how comic books are treatet as source material’s treatment when brought to the screen (which is why he got such a phenomenal reaction when making that appearance where you first met him). This movie was the start of comic books being treated as serious material in movies and not played for laughs and instead respects the comic and respects the character. It did this before x-men which a lot of people incorrectly consider to be the first to do so, but it was this movie? This, and the incredible quality of the movie is why it’s so revered.

We owe this movie a lot. If it wasn't for Blade, we wouldn't have the MCU today. Marvel was on the verge of bankruptcy. The success of Blade (1998) definitely paved the way for future Marvel movies, though I personally don’t think Blade "saved" Marvel. X-Men was already in production before Blade came out, and the rights to Spider-Man had already been sold to Sony, with work on the script underway. So, regardless of how Blade did, we would’ve still seen X-Men (2000) and Spider-Man (2002) two iconic films that had a larger impact on both Marvel and pop culture. Spider-Man really embraced comic book elements and was a huge success, which stands in contrast to the darker, black leather style of X-Men and Blade, though this tone fit Blade really well. A lot of people still don’t know that Blade is a Marvel character, which makes sense since the movie never featured the Marvel intro and nothing about it really screams "Marvel" to the average viewer. Surprisingly, some people didn’t even realize X-Men or Fantastic Four were Marvel, which as a comic fan, blows my mind. But because so many people associate Marvel with the MCU so there’s this disconnect between the MCU and anything outside of it. These days, though, I think the mainstream audience is getting more aware of Blade and his connection to the bigger Marvel universe. It happens with a lot of characters. I’m sure there are people who didn’t know Constantine is a DC character either, so it’s always cool to see their reactions when they find that out. Hopefully the Blade film is good and opens the doors to a Midnight Sons film starring a team-up with Doctor Strange and other supernatural characters.

Ironically, I think Keenu Reaves portrayal of Constantine (DC) and Wesley Snipes portrayal of Blade (Marvel) are possibly the two best performances of characters within their given worlds. Of course, I can understand how people could consider them 'bland' considering people are so used to characters like Deadpool these days, but the trick is to consider just how harsh the world the movie is creating is, to realize how well suited those characters fit into it. It is all about survival, where there isn't time to 'stop and smell the roses'. Sometimes less is more. Blade gives off more emotion than tons of other expressive characters by his very nuanced and selective responses to things. Like when he mouths, "wtf?", it is actually more realistic and impactful because he has been so stoic for most of the rest of the movie. It might be that I have actually known people who show very little emotion, that I recognize the meaning behind small gestures more...not saying more people should be that way, but that some people find it hard to show what they feel.

Blade is a classic but tbh Del Toro knocked the second blade outta the park. Thats my favorite blade. First 2 blades are awsome. 3rd blade not so much tbh. 😊

I really think "Warm bodies" would be a perfect October movie for Cassie. Romance and zombies, it's perfect :D

who knows what will happen with Mahershala Ali’s version, but can always look back at this one and remember that Wesley Snipes was the one who started it off 🕶️

MCU Blade is in development hell because Mahershala Ali was not happy finding out Marvel Studios wanted him for only *one* movie, to pass the torch to the daughter. The jab in DP+W is nothing compared to the utter disrespect by Disney/Marvel Studios.

Just remember Blade came out 5 years before Underworld and Blade is from Marvel Comics and his first appearance was The Tomb of Dracula #10 (July 1973).

I read my mother's copies of Tomb of Dracula when I was growing up in the 80s. I was...a little taken aback by Blade's altered look in this, but I got on board with it pretty quick. Not all change is bad.

My personal favorite role Wesley Snipes did was in Demolition Man, he showed that besides being a really good action star, he could also do comedy, my opinion of his role in that one, he outdid the joker for being a really good villain with a wicked sense of humor.

2:50 The redhead is played by the infamous Traci Lords, who gave a whole industry a very unpleasant surprise. 8:20 Udo Kier, who played Dracula in one of the weirder (and grosser) adaptations. 8:31 Judson Scott, whom you might recognize from Star Trek II - he played Joachim, the young follower of Khan who dies near the end. “I shall avenge you!”
