His entire arc is learning to construct his own meaning and by saving Deckard and reuniting him with his daughter, Joe makes himself apart of the miracle. Roy Batty dies a meaningless life in the dark rain looking at the ground, forgotten. Joe dies in the light looking up at the sky, a truly meaningful death, who’s purpose will always be remembered.
@imanis.h.8431
@imanis.h.8431 2 ай бұрын
@@Jellybob69 I disagree with Roy having a meaningless life, his point in the end was to change Deckard’s perspective and showed him that replicants are just as “human” as humans. He knew that replicants should have rights from the start, that’s why he was rebelling. What’s different between him and K is that K didn’t realize his value as a sentient being at first, but grew to do so by realizing that what defines him is not what he is but what he does, so he decided to help Deckard in the end, making him as much “human” as humans.

In a way, I'm kinda glad the film didn't do well only because it would attract a large and vocal audience that can ruin your enjoyment of a film. Not that I care too much of what everyone else thinks, but I'm someone who likes 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' for example... so you can imagine the shitstorm I keep reminding myself of when I see that film. 'Blade Runner 2049' fortunately, is a movie I can enjoy in peace.

Referring to Joe's car: "It looks like it could be a Batmobile." Christopher Nolan used the original Blade Runner as inspiration for his approach to Batman, as it is an example of a rather unreal world given a very grounded sense of realism. Also, the futuristic animated series Batman Beyond also draws quite heavily from Blade Runner's aesthetics with its hover vehicles and monolithic buildings.

One of the best things about the writing in this movie is how well it plays with the theme of ambiguity like in the first movie. For example, regardless of whether if Deckard is a human or a replicant, the implications of the fact that he had a child with Rachel is equally tremendous: If Deckard is a replicant, then replicants are sapient species. If Deckard is a human, then that implies that replicants would be subsumed under the human species. Both of these situations subvert the justification that people have in-universe have of treating replicants as merely biological machines. Another bit of ambiguity is with regard to Joi: Was she truly self-aware or were her actions only done in accordance with her programming to please her owner? In the scene with the billboard, is K/Joe thinking that his love for Joi was all a lie? Or did he conclude that it was real for him and that's all that matters?

One of the main things I love about this film is Leto's character and not actually knowing if he's human or a replicant. There's enough clues in the film and the short films to suggest he's a Replicant but also a human so there's never a 100% answer and that's the scary thing because if he's a Replicant then he wants a child bearing army and if he's a human then its all simply business but eitherway he wants to be a kind of God essentially.

Denis Vileneuve is the greatest director of our time. Dune will show the world why. Speaking of Denis. His other films are all 10/10 aswell; Prisoners Enemy Sicario Arrival BR2049 What's amazing is that all of these films were released yearly. From 2013 with Prisoners to 2017 with BR2049. I think this scene is so subtle but its so meaninful. I think these short lines of deckard's dialog really completes his arc. He fully understands that even though K memories are implants he's feelings are very real. And then as K lays to die Deckards daughter says 'just a moment... beautiful isn't it?" and I think its a reference to the tears in rain monologue. His life/death is just a moment in time but is also beautiful. I think the snow is also a nice contrast to the rain in the OG movie, since snowflakes are unique in a way. God I love this movie.

Blade Runner 2049 is not such a film. It's a visceral journey and an experience. You are merely a witness. I love this movie because it feels like it tries really hard to stay true to the original. It tries to keep the same gritty/dirty tone of the original, but soften it just a little bit. The cinematography of this game is absolutely gorgeous. The color scheme, the mood, the characters. I just love how this movie flows so well from the original. It's some terrific storytelling that really makes you feel as if you're clever early on only to have the rug pulled out from under you by the end. This movie is so damn good.

Visuals are off the chart, great acting, a imo perfect continuation to the first movie, music that gave me goosebumps the whole end-part of the movie, a great twist that I did not see coming at all and a nice (kinda) closing ending. I was so fucking bummed that I didnt know the blade runner universe when this was released in theaters, that mustve been such a freaking great watch.

Blade runner has been my favorite film since I was little. Being born on the mid 80s. I was so hesitant to see this film. I watched Prisoners one night and I said, ok! That film was amazing let’s see what this director has done with this film. My only regret is not experiencing this in IMAX. I F’ing love 2049! Dare I say I like it more than the first film. The soundtrack is outstanding, Roger Deacons cinematography is perfect, everything was so beautifully done. So much respect and admiration for the first film but this film just sent me through the stratosphere. Especially the sea wall scene when K is saving Deckard on the beach and that music is kicking in. I had tears and goosebumps. Love your guys reaction! Pretty surface-level observation but to add to the discussion, i feel like the point of Joy was for the story to ask us the question "If you can't tell, does it even matter?". If Joe loves Joy, does it really matter that she's not real? His love would be real either way. Just like if you can't tell someone is a replicant, does it matter that they're a replicant? Are they not still people? They breath and feel and hurt and love like we do, their experiences are still real.

I kind of interpreted it as K was set up to be used as a decoy, with the girl noted as having died & the very specific memories. They never check his DNA so he could have been manufactured to "be" the supposedly surviving male child processed through a facility he has very specific memories off only hidden as just another replicant. Like she would make memories for replicants with real parts in it, but the horse memory seems to be a 1:1 real memory only he had, and the comment about how they all wish they could have been her was about how she was born & grew up & could have kids & all that.

I was surprised to see this pop up. Pleasantly so. Blade Runner 2049 is an incredible piece of filmmaking. It's a feast for the eyes and the story takes everything good from the original and does all sorts of good things with it. I was just watching the Doctor Who video Eleventh Hour for the second time. This time it was the full length season opener on the site and I wanted to say that I appreciated Calvin's "The ladder is up!" as I am a huge fan of Roxanne. Considering everyone else said they hadn't seen it perhaps you should do a reaction on that. I haven't seen it around though I have been bugging people to watch it simply because everyone should watch this movie. It's a nice primer on just how funny Steve Martin can be when given the right material that he almost always writes himself. Who else would know him better? I shall now watch the video.
