Empathy. It's about empathy. And it's a beautiful looking film. Pause at almost any moment - a painting.

Yes. Blade Runner is an extremely layered film and a viewer can take many different things from it. My video focuses on 1 of those many things. All meanings connected to the film are valid which I think makes the movie even more special than it already is. Visually it is top 5 best looking movies I think too.

It is about empathy, yes, but it's also about the meaning of life and our perspective on it based on both humans and replicants, just like the video implies.

As to one of your points; If tyrell made deckard with super human abilities he would instantly suspect he was a replicant. He is an experiment to blur the lines even more as to what it is to be human

Your ideas resonate with so many of us who grew up trying to understand the world around us through the art we were engaging with. These movies are iconic pieces of art and philosophy for so many, but so hard to articulate why! 🙏🏿

Spielberg working on Schindlers list while also working on jurassic park was pretty mind blowing to hear. From a super heavy and personal project to a movie that advanced how movies are made in general was revolutionary imo

could the other origami bladerunner/cop be a replicant? explaining why he gives them time to escape, and makes the origami unicorn? thats what i thought when Decard made the realization face after picking it up.

It is the greatest achievement, blade runner is a trip out of body, and all memory existentially speaking, will be lost in time like tears in rain, or a shadow cast up upon the face of the sun.

I like 2049 better...but I wouldn't go as far to say it IS better because of the uniqueness and influence the the original had.

Yeah 2049 was just everything I hoped it would be. Feel like it generally goes unappreciated too
@La_Horca3 ай бұрын
Why do you like 2049 better? I agree that 2049 was a great film, although the prequel is just simply a more complex approach to existence. Everything 2049 did was better developed in the prequel. Not only that, the dialogue and the characters are more memorable. There is a great power to give us Dekards' point of view as what it seems to be the "main character", and then switching the narrative and making our "antagonists" more human than him. The monologue at the end by Roy Batty has to be the best and most memorable monologue in the history of cinema. Let's not talk about technical aspects like cinematography and scenery... because the prequel is also one of the greatest in those aspects... which is probably the most similar things between both movies. What I see about 2049 is that the movie relies more on loneliness and the lack of purpose in life since the beginning of the movie, and that gives our character, a replicant, his humanity. But the emotional moments in 2049 don't reach the same emotional impact as in the prequel, even when those moments work pretty well. Both great films tho.

@@La_Horca great point...honestly, I probably just need to watch the first one more. Also, I know this shouldn't matter, but after seeing arrival and dune 2, I don't like Vilinueuve as much.

I think the OG one of my favorite movies. Is too hard to understand the nuances for modern audiences, as it did when it came out when there was no director cut around. Its just too perfect, frame by frame, the dialogue does not fuck around and is full of philosophical questions. I found the newer one to have a weaker essence. Roy is just too cool to be topped off by any of the new characters

@@MansplainingMovies the visuals are actually impressive, I'm much like you but i found the first to be very emotional but the second just boring, i still find it weird why it's so overhyped.

I totally disagree with you re; the awkward scene where Decker forces himself on her. I think it's important. Feeling sorry for her, his hardened mask was starting to slip, plus he feels attracted to Rachel. However, he has a flash of really uncomfortable anger within himself where he reminds himself that she's only an android, so treating her poorly for his own pleasure doesn't matter. Obviously, by the end of the film, he's seen and heard enough that he feels differently.

I feel this was the intention of the scene but I just don't think it is executed very well

I like the sequel better than the original, BUT that’s just bc of Harrison fords awful acting and bc the sequel is more philosophical. The OG movie itself is great, influential, such a cool setting, and Roy batty I mean come on! One of the best monologues of all time! It opened the door for so much sci-fi and cyberpunk it melts my heart ❤

@@MansplainingMoviesyay! I am glad you went into how awful the R-ish word scene is in the OG, but we can still like the movie (we just wish it wasn’t there!) once he slammed the door preventing her from leaving I was like ewww I feel very uncomfortable. I so much enjoy Ks character arc in 2049, and I really loved the questions left by Jois existence. Was she just programmed to love him, to say what he wanted, be what he wanted? Bc that’s what she is advertised to do - and she calls him Joe in her black eye ad form at the end. That part just broke my heart for K. I felt so much more for him than any of the human characters, and Ryan Gs acting is perfectly subdued and ranged with just facial expressions. Love was also an interesting character. Lots of juicy topics to delve into on 2049… very excited to hear your take!

You made a few mistakes here and there but overall it's a good video. Rachael is not a Nexus 6, she is a Nexus 7, which is confirmed in BR 2049 via her Serial Number etched into her skeleton. So she is an experimental Replicant, able to reproduce with (possibly) a normal human or infinite lifespan. Something that Wallace could not replicate from Tyrell, despite his tries in BR 2049. Thats why we have obedient Nexus 8's in BR 2049 such as K, which is shed more light upon in the BR Shortmovies that came out ahead of BR 2049. That was why Wallace was even allowed to create Replicants despite them being banned. But what Wallace could NOT recreate was something like Rachael, because it was lost during the Blackout and Tyrell being killed in the original BR. Also Wallace implies that Rachael was CREATED for Deckard specifically. Thats why Deckard tells him "Her eyes were Green". There is so much subtext in the Consume of alcohol, Deckard being in a really dark state of mind at the beginning of the movie and throughout he rediscovers his own Humanity, because something (Roy Batty) that was not human showed him Humanity and saved him from falling. Also when Roy dies the Dove represents his soul that Replicants (do not) have, at least in my interpretation.

I mention some of this in my Blade Runner 2049 video. There are so many lore changes with that movie, it's hard to talk about Blade Runner without some inconsistency caused by what was retconned in the sequel.
