To be fair, Acura themselves used joke #2 in their marketing for the NSX when it launched in the early 90s. A TV ad set in Italy's wine region had an elderly man asking (in Italian with English subtitles) his 30-something son if his new car was a Ferrari. To which the reply was "No, papa...Acura." Acura was very proud of the fact that it looked just as good yet outperformed the the 348, was far more reliable and a fraction of the cost. I remember this commercial quite vividly as if it were yesterday because I was obsessed with the NSX, being in my mid-teens at the time.
