Ford is the only reason Aston Martin still exists. Same with Jaguar, Land Rover, and Volvo. They all were owned by Ford and called the "Premier Automotive Group". Ford sold off the PAG to various buyers in the late 2000s, This example is less a story about "copying" a design style and more about owning the rights to it. Similar would be the Mazda RX-7/Ford Taurus rear. Ford owned a large stake in Mazda until the late 2000s, which is why you'll see a lot of badge-engineered Ford/Mazda products from the 80s until they sold off most of their shares. These types of arrangements or ownerships aren't uncommon.

As for the Aston Martin Entry, Ford owned Aston Martin along with other companies and Regularly shuffled designers amongst the companies it owned back in the 2000s (Lincoln designers can go to Aston Martin and etc.) Aston Martin's design was getting shared to both Ford's and Jaguar's lineups and that basically turned their corporate relationship downhill, since Aston Martins at the time only selling point was their unique design.

In my country there's a car called the "Proton Inspira" which is pretty much a rebadged low performance "Mitsubishi Lancer". Fairly enough, it pissed a lot of enthusiast because the "Inspira" owner would modify it to look more like the original and made people with the real thing looks suspicious. Lol

The cooler ones are the wira, from what my dad told me lots of people exchanged parts from evo 3 engines into wiras and made sleepers but they dont really exist anymore as people sold them off to scrapyards

Ford used to own Aston. When they sold Aston, they retained the rights to the design on the grill hence a lot of their cars (in UK atleast) still used the same grill style. Think it's changing in the current face-lifts coming out tho

When ford owned Aston they tried to copy the design and that’s one of the main reasons why the partnership ended

Ford Gave Aston Martin and Jaguar the Ford engines, which, why not in return for Ford to get the designs from Aston Martin/Jaguar for giving then the engines?

Oh my god the impala/skyline misconception is so common in Michigan the amount of non car people I’ve heard go “I thought you couldn’t buy a skyline in America” when an impala starts getting loud isn’t much but still surprising

Back when my S12 ran it’d get mistaken for an AE86 pretty often. It got so bad that I’d see people walking up to me and I could tell by their facial expressions that I was about to ruin their day lol. Though it also got mistaken for some less similar cars, someone called it an FC once, also got Celica, Pulsar, Accord, Delorean, and once even Scirocco.
@zombi2332 жыл бұрын
My friend owns Scirocco, older one. People are really mistaking it with delorean.

Thanks to Ford money, and a designer called Ian Callum, the Aston Martin DB7 saved Aston Martin from certain death. To this day, the Aston Martin DB7 is still a stunning grand tourer. The production DB7 first saw the light of day at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1993.

So basically the thing with Ford and Aston Martin. At the time Aston Martin did a collaboration with ford for the old Fiesta and focus, cuz ford wanted to make a budget car look fast and aerodynamic… After the production of the ford Fiesta, ford claimed that the grill was their design, but the designer of Aston martin didn’t agree with that. Here is the problem, during the collaboration the designer actually changed jobs, to an employee of ford, but only during the collaboration. I think this is just a mess and ford disrespects Aston martin’s beautiful design. Whenever you see a Aston martin, you always have to think about it looking like a ford. Let’s be real, in my language I would call ford a gottlosen Hurensohn.

I was at a local car meet and there was this guy with an rx7 FD. I’m somewhat friends with them now but I decided to screw with him. I walked up and said “Nice Miata bro, how many cylinders it got?” For the moment before he realized I was messing around he just looked purely livid

My dad had a v6 accord coupe like that. It really wasn't terribly slow for what it was. And it was extremely easy to work on. And really the only difference between the stealth and 3kgt is the 3kgt lived longer and the stealth didn't have active aero or aws. Everything else was the exact same apart from styling.

There was a silver Impala with a Duraflex Skyline body kit in my home town when I was in high school and it used to trick me every time I saw it, lol. The guy did have it lowered on some TE37s, so it did look pretty good. I’m sure he was trolling everyone and probably had a big laugh anytime people freaked out over his “R34”.

I do see the viper and vette similarities. The other cars not even close. I wouldn’t ever mix up the vette or viper. They are both so unique and iconic and can’t be mistaken for. I’ve never thought they looked a like till this video. Seeing that half/half overlay really did it. Even the roof from the front is similar.
