Absolutely wonderful scenes at the end of the incline and Llechwedd/Oakeley. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Dave, greetings from the Cotswolds. I have a box of about 20 films and a dozen VHS tapes as he was very active as you know with the history of the locality. I will do his Antur related film next with the YOP scheme he managed, as it is an interesting record of those times. I'm pleased you enjoyed the film. Very best wishes and say hello to Beryl. Peter

You are very welcome. My father used to do local history talks to the WI etc in the Penrhyn and Port area, I suspect this video has already reached more people in a couple of weeks than he could have dreamt.

@@peterhughes575 I am secretary of the Blaenau History Society. I am sure that the video will be of great interest to them. If we show it, they are sure to ask about who took it. What was your father's name? Where did you live?

I visited there in the mid 90s. Seeing this brought back fond memories. Many of the buildings look the same, although now catering to the tourist trade.

You are correct. Where the slate trucks are shown going towards the mountain is I think where the Llechwedd train now runs into the mountain. Much of the workings were developed for tourism either as Gloddfa Ganol or Llechwedd in the 1970s and 1980s. Many thanks

Thanks Peter, are you able to upload more of your father's films?
@peterhughes575 Жыл бұрын
Hi John yes I’m going through his cinefilms and digitizing them. Most are family holidays but a few are to do with Merionethshire.

This must be at least 1964 as that's when the new connection from North to Central stations opened.
@peterhughes575 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. On reflection I think 1964 does seem more accurate, as the newness of the A496 would also tie in with the the opening of the Power Station in 1963 and the sale of new Hillman Imps at Central Garage also puts it after May 1963.
