Get the Metamagic Adept feat! It's super cool, the best of both worlds, and doesn't require you to get a level in a different class. I would totally get it in my current campaign (I love subtle spell so much for rp purposes-) but I'm playing a changeling and getting the Actor feat gives me advantage on deception and performance while trying to pass myself off as someone else. Likewise, when I can get my next ASI, I'm going to get a specific changeling feat that changes my Change Appearance ability from basically infinite Disguise Self to a basically infinite Alter Self.

Despite what you say about the Wizard, my sister ALWAYS takes a tleast 5 minutes changing her prepared spells whenever they long rest. She's the first actual spellcaster in our party that has a decent grasp on how spellcasting works so it's interesting for me a DM for like a year see how an actual spellcaster works lol
@river78744 жыл бұрын
This^ Wizard is my go-to Spellcasting class because of the sheer amount of spells available. To save time, and not distract the party, I usually let my DM know directly what I've changed for my prepped spells. It also saves time because there is a good handful of spells that I always have prepared and almost never swap out, like Mage Armor and Shield for example. I try to keep a balance between damage and tech, and my daily prepping of spells can sometimes lead to some great RP and character building as I will consult the party members my character trusts the most to see if they think we'll need something specific for the encounters we may face.
@kamikeserpentail37784 жыл бұрын
The thing about Wizard, and why I always preferred Sorcerer, is that the wizard needs to actually study and figure out what spells they might need ahead of time. But almost everyone I've ever played D&D with wants to charge in blindly and just smash their heads against problems as they show up. They don't scout the area to see what threats may be there. They don't get a map, look into history, or any number of things that could help a wizard decide what spells to bring. So having a large number of spells for different situations doesn't really matter if you're choosing blindly, you're just going to grab the generalist spells that are ok in most situations.

I kind of like being the "Regular dude" on the battlefield. In a world where there are wizards, demons, deities intervening, and having to fight Literal gods (if you hit 20) the regular person who's pretty much a town guard who trained for years is still kicking ass alongside the the Cleric who was handpicked by their God and the Wizard summoning fireballs and lightning bolts. Plus with the different subclasses, you can fit almost any niche to your fantasy. Battlemaster is the tactical mastermind. Cavalier is the Gallant Hero, Echo Knight is all about outwitting your foes, Eldritch Knight studies magic but isn't as fragile as casters. And people who dismiss them as boring, have probably never played one past level 3, because it's anything but.... Ok, Champion is a little boring, but you also triple you chance to crit! Four attacks with 15% chance to crit, on top of Action Surge! With Polearm Master, that's 10 attacks before you say "and I end my turn"

Monk Subclass stereotypes: Given that you're playing a monk, it's fairly safe to assume you're into anime. And what subclass you play as, hints at what anime you watch (with some exceptions), and how you behave. Astral Self: you don't do much to hide the fact that you're a Jojo fan, but also tend to forget to use the astral arms for more than just punching--what Jojo is usually famous for. Shadow: You're a Naruto fan, of varying expression. You can try to hide/deny it, citing ninjas as being inherently cool, or you can own up, and shout "BELIEVE IT," at every opportunity. Sun Soul: WE GET IT. YOUR CHARACTER'S NAMED AFTER A FOOD, AND YOU'RE BASICALLY GOKU. Just STOP rambling about power levels, and try to put those purported math skills to use, by managing your Ki properly. Four Elements: You're a diehard Avatar: The Last Airbender fan. Any mention of anything sounding like Korra will piss you off. Kensei: You're devoted to Samurai Jack, but not to an obnoxious level. Either that, or you will never shut up about your STOODEE OF DA BLEEYYYD!! Drunken Master: You're more a fan of Jackie Chan, and other martial arts movies of the time. Or you just like to drink IRL. You play alright with everyone, but PLEASE mind what you're saying & doing--even if your character's supposed to be drunk. Long Death: Edge. Pretty much just Edge. Can vary it up a bit with some Mortal Kombat, or Undertale stuff, but mostly just Edge, and lacking self-preservation instinct. Open Hand: You don't tend to reference that much anime in roleplay. Often you just try to play a character who's sweet & supportive--fitting the supportive nature of the subclass. This is until you reach level 17, and then you're the Fist of The North Star, but by then, you've probably earned the right to make these references. Ascendant Dragon: You don't exist quite yet. You have fond memories of the draconic sorcerer, and are still trying to figure out how to reliably spell & pronounce Grougaloragran, so you can better fit into your Wakfu fantasies.

Ah the barbarian, still brings back the memories of my first ever DND session. In place of going with a reasonable race like a dwarf or human I made a rock gnome barbarian, just this tiny ball of muscle coming to break some kneecaps. Still remember the funniest event with them was when I attempted to throw a party member up to a ledge and rolled a 1, instead of just pulling their back or somthing no my DM had them throw so hard my buddies head was embedded in the ceiling Looney toons style. I'll never forget you Durko Garrick the Goatillery.
@UnbackedCon4 жыл бұрын
For any of you wondering where the nickname "Goatillery" came from I'll give the rundown story. A local town had come under threat of an Adult red dragon and our party was tasked with taking care of it, our party's warlock had the idea of setting up an explosive trap at a local farm that's been the target of the dragon recently. When it came time to spring the trap the dragon noticed it and normal combat ensued and it started to go downhill hill immediately, our warlock nearly got burnt to a crisp during the first round and our paladin became its focus for the next few, our ranger who was the major issue to the dragon had run out of ammo so he was gimped drastically. We were on the path to a TPK and in an act of desperation Durko had the idea to strap a keg of gunpowder to a nearby goat and try throwing it at the dragon, he had a belt of storm giants strength and with the roll came a nat 20. The goat was effectively turned into a short ranged missile which hit the dragon square in the face which ended up killing it. It also came in handy while raiding a orc garrison as the goats really did a number on the walls allowing our band of mercenaries we built up to storm the keep, it became the stuff of stories in taverns of a tiny man throwing animals so hard they exploded. We did reach level 20 and our DM was given permission to throw a Tarasque at us as a penultimate fight, I had found a ring of 3 wishes after a recent bout against a lich though I had to use two charges as one of our members was killed by Disintegrate and the other was sent to another plane, before the battle I gave our ranger it as a safety precaution as I'd be trying to keep it away from our party, things went horribly as our paladin was dying from a crit he took and the Tarasque had its eyes on our warlock next but was also close to death itself from a full power SMITE. As a final act of desperation to try and save those he considered family he dove into the Tarasque's gullet with a orb of condensed magic energy that our warlock and been working on with a group of wizards, with the amount it had stored It could easily have been compared to a small hydrogen bomb and broke it, Durko was obliterated and the Tarasque was in a dead state and needed the wish to be used on it to finally finish it (Our DM wanted to imitate the 3.0 edition rule of a wish killing it) and though he wanted Durko back our ranger did what they needed to do and destroyed the Tarasque for good. I haven't been able to play with them recently but my buddy who was the DM let me know that the legend of Durko was spreading within new campaigns of his, the man of explosions lived on even after his great sacrifice and the stories told by wandering bards told of a man who with a simple touch would use an animal to bring an entire city to it's knees.

Less of a class stereotype, more of a player stereotype (which I fall into). Bard and rogue players tend to have the most interaction with the world at large, and tend to be the biggest chatterboxes at the table. Bards (and the people playing them) tend to try to talk their way out of everything, frequently treating any situation as a puzzle to be solved, most often through seduction (side note: if your DM is a more combat centered one and he asks you to make a skill check OTHER than seduction before rolling to seduce, and if he smiles when you fail said check, be prepared to roll a new character. Case in point: my bard that tried to seduce a dragon. Failed the spot check prior to the seduction roll, got ripped in half by dragon dick). Rogues treat every encounter as a combat/theft puzzle, and therefore tend to spend more time interacting with the environment or people's pockets than actually fighting. That or the sneaky sneaky stabby stabby variety in the case of a murder hobo rogue. In either case, both the Rogue and the Bard will inevitably spend half the night having their own little side game of D&D just trying to gather details from the DM to solve their own personal little puzzles they've made. Can be fun with a good DM, just don't bring them along if you're playing a combat focused premade module.

Arent paladins lawful good which means law abiding? From what I hear it more lawful stupid where a paladin is extremely reckless and an asshole cause justice.
@DarkHero-nn9xr4 жыл бұрын
@@Saxton_Hoovy Good question: it depends how you see the term lawful good. On one hand you can view it exactly this way which often results in this. However you can inversely have your character follow a code of ethics which doesn't abide by the laws of society. In other terms one interpretation as to what "Lawful good" means in this case is one who follows the law in order to do good. Which indeed is valid, but another could be someone who follows their own moral code abiding by laws they set for themselves which they believe is for the good of all.

For my first time playing DnD I was going to use a elf that all he did was flirting! I.. I don't know where I came up with the idea. But then thankfully I didn't use him and just made a rouge/paladin. So I could just be quiet and fight in the background! Thank you my introverted side for shining through! Probably would've been a really funny campaign though if I stuck with the elf.

Honestly, the Cleric feels off to me. I feel like it would be that the party is constantly clamoring to you to be a heal bot, so you either use every single spell slot you have to heal, or you realize that Cleric is one of the best classes is the game and can fit any combat role and say "fuck you all, you aren't getting anything cuz i'm a Tempest cleric." The party will still proceed to complain that you casted Guiding Bolt to take out that pesky enemy instead of pouring an ass load of healing into them after they got a small boo boo.

My dm enjoyed my mystic, but the party hated me. For character reasons, not power. They appreciated my power, but my mystic was kinda schizophrenic and had a voice (possibly demon) in her head the told her what to do. Sadly she died from suffocating under drunken dwarfs, but i was later told that Badger (my voice demon) was going to be important and slowly turn me evil. Good times

@@MythicMachina yep, psyonics is cool, but when it doesn't stay in its own lane and takes away from other characters roles it doesn't deserve to live. My main goal as a DM is to ensure everyone has their time to feel like a boss and contribute things no one else in the party can. Mystic as it is has crazy role confusion, artificer is so much better at having a proper identity that adds to a party rather then competing with the cooperative style of the game.
