I remember having these on tape, and playing them to anyone who would listen when I was at school/college in 1993/94. The feedback I got ranged from "quite funny" to "boring". A few years later when I'm Alan Partridge came out everyone was quoting Partridge and thought he was brilliant. I felt like a music fan who discovers an amazing band before everyone else, and then gets slightly disgruntled when they hit the big time and everyone starts liking them!

Lol same with the Armando show on radio one. Used to listen to those on tape. Seeing them all launch on to their own tv shows was ace.

Same here my friend…and in fact I had a similar experience with the TV show, ‘The Day Today’. Used to watch and re-watch the VHS tape over and over, then show friends who thought it was a real news programme!

I don’t think the radio show is nearly as good though unfortunately, the character was clearly still developing here.

Episode 2 transmitted 12/8/1992 BBC Radio 4 with the following "guests": Simon Fisher, child prodigy; Janey Katz hypnotherapist; Nick Ford lawyer. One of the classics of the Partridge canon.

Heard these premiere on Long Wave on Radio 4 in Dublin in 1992. So as of 2021 Simon Fisher then 9, the child prodigy would be almost 40! Alan is heading for 70!

Came across these with my mate when we were 17 we loved Alan partridge front the tv show and these were amazing funny than anything he has ever done. Have them on cd somewhere. The one where he takes drugs is hilarious. I think this is the funnest of them all thought.

According to Armando Iannuci the BBC got complaints from listeners who didn't realise this was a comedy because of Alan's treatment toward Simon Fisher

You have to remember that early Partridge was supposed to be a sports reporter and was based more on sports commentators (Motson) and you can hear that more here, then he became more TV chat show orientated sounding a bit like (Richard Madeley and John Stapleton) and the voice has moved on again

The Day Today team did a recent Radio 4 special and Coogan said he had received a letter of complaint from an a listener who was outraged about how nasty Alan Partridge was being to the child prodigy Simon played by Doon Mackichan. He said he still has the framed letter in his bathroom.
