There are a lot of Easter eggs in this, like the mention of John Stapleton being considered for Alan's audio book as narrator... Stapleton is widely considered to be one of the sycophantic, self righteous presenters Coogan based the character on... With a large dash of Richard Madeley (who started in the North at the time Coogan was coming through). And the repeated mention of the Daily Mail and private detectives... Didn't Coogan himself sue them? Or one of the news papers. It's all good, like Alan himself - works on many levels.

"I start with a concept and try to work backwards towards a pun." That really is how devising and commissioning factual entertainment programmes work. Still better than Channel 4 who take complex societal problems and reduce them to Benefits Street and The Boy Whose Skin Fell Off.

Yes , because for all his Comic genius ..Coogan is a patronising , left wing , champagne socialist , virtue signalling shithouse who is totally detached from the experiences of normal working people , his wealth insulating him from the collapse of our country ! Like many of his sort , His political opinions and prejudices have clearly not changed since his sixth form " student politics" position .. despite the vastly changing world we have seen over the last 30 odd years .

Steve Coogan has repeated several lines during this interview so they can be edited out due to not liking the way they are said.... but they haven't been edited out for some reason. I wonder if this is simply the original or that they never realised thats why he repeated himself several times?

Richard Bacon knew how to play this interview game with Alan - so please, don't think Richard's attitude here was anything real, it was part of the act. Same way Clive Anderson, Jonathan Ross have interviewed Alan. Steve Coogan tells them in advance to be more confrontational with Alan.
