I've raced the Megavalanche on a hardtail. That was a lot of fun, quite painful on race day. But all the Brits screaming Hardtail on the trail side was a good mental boost!

Yeah I came 3rd in a State DH round on a hardtail which was also my first mtb race. Got a fully now so can’t wait to see how I go.

That was in 2015. Really dusty conditions. The main issue was arm pump as you're pushing your handlebars to get your bike go straight at all time. The bike is a Nicolai Argon AM with Pike.

You see. It's not all about the capabilities of the bike but in reality, the rider makes 75% of what the capabilities of a bike is so build your skill and honestly you won't need the best bike out there to ride fast and have fun

But actually Blake was in the hard tail category. If you look at the results you can see the times and the differences between the different categories - here my4.raceresult.com/111360/results?lang=en fastest elite 6:09,97 fastest hardtail 6:45,20 the hardtail is taking 10% more time than the elite (who's almost certainly full suspension). Then you get into the argument as to whether the hardtail riders are as experienced and expert as the elite riders. It's all academic. Whats important is getting out there and having fun!
