I know it was a long time ago since this season of Idol but if my recollection is accurate, it was Country week and the contestants had to pick country songs, which is why it was attributed to Tim McGraw.

The problem with Blake was, Simon and the other judges to a degree didn't take him seriously because of the initial beat-boxing. Off the bat they thought this was some dated 80's thing with a singer that could carry a tune. The reality is, no artist on Idol did more to progress music to it's current modern form (for better or worse) than Blake did, and sadly he didn't get enough credit or exposure for it.

This was Tim's version of the song. Not saying he wrote it, but Blake chose Tim's version. (That being the style; the version that had more of a country style) That is why Tim received credit.

I totally agree. "This week I pick "When the stars go blue"... By Tim McGraw". Ohh no!!! I would be so embarrassed if it was me who had sad that. But i think its the idol management that wants to refer to the version the kids that watch idol knows. I have heard "hurt by Johnny Cash" and "Come together by Michael Jackson" as well.

There isn't a Tim version... the lyrics are the same so it should be attributed to Ryan, not Tim.

I was really impressed, and excited when I heard Blake sing this song. What really pisses me off is the band. They rushed the music, and made him look like he was dragging. Some bands do that on purpose to make the singer sound bad, esp if you're opening up for someone. I know this is not the case, unless they wanted him not to win. Simon never did like country music. So he's not going to like anything country. I do hope Blake keeps on singing. I hope he gets a lot of offers to sing.

Um, I'm sure this has already been mentioned earlier in this thread, but this is not Tim McGraw's song. Ryan Adams wrote this when he was in the band Whiskey Town, and while its may be nice that "Blake" liked the cover, it is a typical commentary on how clueless this dude is that he didn't even know who actually wrote the song. ("Gosh, I really wanted to sing Bohemian Rhapsody because I just love Adam Lambert..." ) /sigh/
