If they can sign Burns on a short term deal than do it, and if they miss out on Sasaki, a trade for Crochet makes sense for a lefty
@JackAPowers4 күн бұрын
@@pardeepsekhon1582 I say get all three Burnes, Sasaki, & Fried/Snell or trade for Crochet if it works out on costs. Ohtani may not pitch till May. When/If Kersh comes back. If resign Walker and regardless May to the Bullpen and you still have spare arms, Miller, Gonsolin, for injuries or extra rest on a 6-Man Rotation.

They don't need a lefty, they won without one. They just need the best pitcher available. Although that is Burnes, I do think Snell has the best fit for the timeline they want to pay for. Snell probably will be max 4-5 years.
@JackAPowers3 күн бұрын
@@ryanc9876 They had a leftie for around half the season in Paxton. Not great, but the bats seemed to support him and all his walks. Still, I agree they can win without one if the best available. I'm just old school from the Kofax days and like the option. I almost prefer Fried to Snell. Cheaper and more a ground ball hitter than K. But his numbers are not that far from Burnes. Burnes is the best if the numbers work out right.

yes but they don’t need to prioritize a big time starter worth 20-30 mil. They have top of the rotation arms (Ohtani, Yamamoto, Glasnow). they would be more likely to sign somebody who is closer to a #3 starter (or Fried since he’s from CALI)

In many ways, Soto’s the reason these guys haven’t already started signing. Those QO’s are a big consideration. A team like the Dodgers or Mets will be involved in the SP market, and if they’re already losing international $ and picks because of Soto, there’s no way they’re going to take additional penalties for Burnes. They’ll pivot to Snell and others instead. Burnes will go to a team that misses on Soto.

@dsinsocal4 күн бұрын
You keep ignoring that LA plans to run with a 6-man rotation this year. That has a massive effect on their needs and plans. Plus, they don't have a lefty in the rotation, unless/until Kershaw gets back. Going all the way back to early last year when you were talking about the trade deadline, you keep underestimating the Dodgers wants/desires for starting pitching. You kept saying they didn't "need" another starting pitcher, and I kept asking you who the heck was going to pitch for them in the postseason. They ended up trading for Flaherty. Same is true now... they're going with a 6-man rotation. They will absolutely add another major arm this year -- possibly two -- because they understand the fragile nature of pitching in general, and THEIR starting pitching in particular. They aren't in a position to pencil Gonsolin and Miller into the rotation and call it an offseason.
@ryanc98763 күн бұрын
The Dodgers have said they are targeting front line starters. It's a need. You can't list 5 guys who are injured in 2024 and expect them all to be healthy come October. And no way mister 8.52 ERA is number 5.

I don't see Boston having the advantage over the Orioles in this, not that Blake Snell is the best/most coveted ace on the market this offseason. Baltimore doesn't have a slightly more urgent need than the Bosox, it's more like a _chasm._ In the current century Boston's won four World Series titles, most recently in 2018. On the other hand, to find the last WS championship for the O's, we need to go back over four decades to 1983, which also happens to be last year they even appeared in one. So, they have a much more title-starved fan base, and will do everything they can to electrify those fans with a major push in that direction. Not to mention that 2025's O's team should be the better of the two clubs, and thus have a better chance to go deeper into the playoffs. Oh, and that the Sox dropped the ball big-time when it came to Chris Sale, and before that, Mookie Betts. In recent years, they just haven't been a very good organization, making stupid decision after stupid decision regarding foundational players. As for the Red Sox front office making more noise about what they plan, that means very, very little when contrasting it with that of the Orioles, because anyone who follows the O's at all closely will know that Mike Elias plays his cards tighter to the vest than any GM in baseball. He's already indicated pretty clearly that David Rubenstein's has greenlighted more spending, and that's about as just much as we should expect from the warehouse until negotiations with players are starting to move forward.

Let’s not leave this fact out of any negotiations. Savvy Wall Street guys are difficult to screw over…..Soto will not be a Dodger.
