Blake Samson has traded his life on two wheels for something far simpler.. a Unicycle! Surely one wheel is easier to manage than two, right? Just like learning to wheelie, practice makes perfect, but Blake doesn't have long to practice. We've given him the morning to learn how to ride a Unicycle before he takes it to the trail. Will Blake be able to do it, or will he end up looking like a clown? 🤡

Nice try - congrats 🎉🎉🎉 A few tips: 1. For stability, use muscles of your bum, abs and hips at the same time. 2. Try correcting your balance without waving your arms, but with twisting and shifting your back spine, so moving your rib cage to different directions than the lower half of your torso to maintain balance. 3. If it gets rough, mountain unicycling is pedalling STOOD UP. Sitting ist only for smooth surfaces. 4. The saddle handle is for holding with one hand at all times when offroad. It is used to pull in situations, where you need more pedalling power than your body weight alone can generate. Strongly forced pedalling down while simultaneously pulling at the handle to maximise the leg power. This way you can get up waaay steeper hills than without pulling the handle. 5. Attack body position offroad means your chest leads, the bum and saddle are hold a bit backwards: This way your torso and the longest leg on the downstroke NEVER are in one vertical line - there always needs to be a slight angle in your hips, so your chest is leading your feet, the bum follows behind. What it means: The unicyle itself is leant backwards, which provides much better bump eating capabilities. Keep it up!🎉

@joemansky29275
@joemansky29275 6 ай бұрын
@@irfuel Of course - but understanding early, which muscle groups and torso twistings can help, progress can be faster than just trial and error until figuring out yourself. I learned wobbly riding in a few days when I was 8 years old, but had a unicycle trainer at age 15 in a teen circus. Correct teaching from him got me to riding stood up, riding backwards, way better cornering, jumping, pirouetting and getting onto the unicycle in 3 different ways in a few weeks, which I still am very grateful for because these techniques built the foundation for riding off road.

Long time unicyclist here, also have taught many dozens to ride as well. The "just go" attitude is BEST for learning in my experience, but the grass just made it even tougher to start (although easier on the falling obviously, you had some tough falls). I enjoyed watching someone learn with no understanding going in, well done sir. I wish I could have been there to help, but you did great for a single days go!

A few years ago I was out for a hike, part of my rehab from falling off a roof I was working on. Got banged up real good. I was painfully going up a slight hill when a 60 something year old man passed me on a fat tire unicycle. I was completely awestruck at how awesome of a thing I was seeing and his age just inspired the f@+$ out of me. Never tried one, but the whole concept of seeing someone ride a trail, the hardest way possible was just awesome.

Great job! To make it less frustrating one needs more mileage, preferably some on-road climbing to build stamina, bunny-hopping and idling.This set of skills will increase the available extra power when encountering off-road challenges and increase balancing abilities. And your combination of rim + hub + cranks doesn't look fit for off-road riding. I had a similar 26, first thing that broke was the rim, then hub, replaced with a proper rim suitable for downhill, and stronger hub. And fatter tires will give extra air to absorb shocks and to squeeze when jumping.

The best place to learn how to ride a unicycle is on a tennis court. Start by using the fence to ride along the perimeter. Once you get comfortable with that. Go back and forth using the net. The reason for that it allow the you to use the slack on the net gain more balance. Once your comfortable do it that, start using the post and ride without any assistance of the fence or the net. I wonder how many UPD’s he had to make this video. Wrist guards are highly recommended. Free mounting takes as long to figure out as it does to learn how to ride it.

Great fun. Don't look down or you will go where your eyes go. Try a fat bike tire for a great footprint.

😂 I loved the bush-hugger. This was a lot of fun to watch. I guess somebody will ask the roadies for chamois cream next time.

Finely something different than “how to corner faster” or “xc vs enduro bike”. Maybe Blake should start his own channel?
