Learning scales is a must in playing the guitar I just learned scales a couple months ago and trust me it’s so much easier
@MatthewPusey445 жыл бұрын
I find what really helped me was playing the scales over a backing track in the same key, that was what changed it from playing a scale on sequence to being able to improvise.

my favorite pop punk leads are the hammer-on pull-offy ones in songs like the intro of staircase wit and the secondary intro riff in empty space.

with lots of open strings. i suppose this is more popular in twinkly-midwest emo bands but it fits into pop punk well too.

I normally look for pop punk news / release blogs and check back once a week, scroll through and see what's new. Spotify does me well with the discover feature and Mondays weekly playlist. Also check out reddit.com/r/poppunkers, hope this helps.

See what I do is I’ll search up a song on tunebat to find the song key and I’ll just play along those scales in order to find the notes it’s a lot easier then tabs. Tabs may be easy to find the notes but it’s a lot funner if you do scales and learn by ear and is also 2 birds with one stone. I’m also a singer to so I use my guitar too figure out vocal notes

What tuning are you using I'm trying to follow but your guitar sound totally different to mine I'm in Drop D DADGBE. Edit: your actually in D standard not Drop D so to follow you'd have to tune to C# G# C# F# A# D#
@markcm4 жыл бұрын
I was wondering the same, I heard it announced as “drop-D” but it sounded off when I tried to follow along. It sounds to me more like drop-D tuned down a half step?

I'm a little confused, I won't lie. So what are you doing with the octave leads specifically, when compared to just playing the basic 4 octaves?
@johnnylifts83853 жыл бұрын
The 4 octaves is the exact same melody pitched an octave higher basically. The same empty space that’s left from the rythym guitar will still be there, lead guitar should make fill the mix more but not only that, add to and harmonize the rythym melody. Use more notes than the rythym guitar on the off beats

It’s a no-brainer. I’ve been playing guitar for 15yrs and I’ve always been playing the same genre. When I hear “pop-punk” I think... NOFX, MxPx, Blink-182, Green Day, Allister, Rise Against and many more. You know you begin to date yourself when all the bands who people now claim as “pop-punk” are not what you know of as such... I’m 32yrs old now. All these new bands don’t have that sound
