Can you make a video that focuses on right-hand technique? for punk strums, different angle strums, triplet strums.. different areas of the string strums? Two note strums.. Wrist flicks.. how to relax your wrist.. planting or anchoring your fingers.. when to use the wrist when to use your arm.. etc.. In other words.. all of the right hand techniques you've been playing in this video

When we were teenagers back in the mid 70s we had to work all this out for ourselves by trial and error. Listening to 50s rock n roll, early 60s beat groups, early 70s glam rock, & proto punk like MC5 and the NY Dolls. + watching guitar players on TV and at live gigs. By late 76 we were competent enough to start writing songs and playing in a simple minimalist fast aggressive style that started becoming defined by the media as "Punk". We were just highly wound up teens bored with, and reacting against dominant culture older Prog Rock and big excessive stadium bands. [ ie, over complicated music which we were just not good enough musicians to play, even if we wanted to.]

Agree 100%. I came up in late 80's early 90's, but it was the same vibe then. Lots of technically proficient metal bands were popular, so it was hard to learn simple rock n roll without figuring it out yourself.

Wish I had this video when i was a punk teenager. Had to figure all this out on my own back in the day. Also, pretty astonished that your techniques are the same as mine. Also, we use the same picks. Lol awesome. Im subbing.

My pick slides need work. I have a tough time transitioning from pick slide to around12th fret to transition to finger slide from there towards nut. Really good point on Ramones down picked barre chords. Great lesson today Scott. 👍🏻 Lots of stuff to improv and jam with as well as build on different ideas like sliding down or up into chords. From the beginning of your KZbin lessons there’s always been those Chuck bends, awesome 😎

Damn, I wish I could do all downstrokes that fast. I need some ideas on how to build that vs. alternate picking/strumming.
@ScottGuitar5 ай бұрын
Just takes practice! Also, standing up while you play helps the downstrokes a lot. Get the guitar / strap length at a good distance to do the downstrokes comfortably. Grip the pick as lightly as possible to not drop it. Don't clench the muscles in your hand and forearm, try to be as relaxed as possible. Use your wrist not arm/elbow for the strumming motion.

Ima subscribe but if you can make a video on right hand technique it would help me out so much I can play my power chords alright but anything that has like a strumming rhythm to it I can do every time I play something it’s all downstrokes so it sounds the same to me

Really like the tone you got on your guitar here. Any chance you can share what you're using? EDIT: I noticed in the accessories section you list the ibanez ts9 tube screamer, is that what you're using for distortion here?
@ScottGuitar5 ай бұрын
Thanks! I think I'm using my Fender Twin Reverb 65 Reissue amp and a Boss DS-1 Distortion pedal for this one. The TS9 Tubescreamer would sound similar and work well too.
