A Great build, one addition you may want to consider is routers cool themselves mostly by blowing air from the flutes across the motor and out towards the bit end of the router. Sitting this in a box means the flutes are trying to blow dusty air across the internals of the machine. A shop vac or dust collector tries to create a vacuum inside the box, pulling air the opposite way, this heat stresses the router motor. If you rig up a source of clean air to the end of the router using a suitably sized piece of flexible shop vac tubing, clamped/ziptied to the end of the router just slipped over enough to cover the flutes, feed the other end of the tubing through the same diameter hole in the box you can feed the router with much cleaner air, it won't get heat stressed and the vacuum will be working slightly better too.

Jonathan Corbett Thanks! I understand the concept of what you are saying but in my opinion and experience that’s just way overthinking it. This is a huge and very robust router motor, designed for constant & daily use in a professional cabinet shop. I don’t put anywhere near the amount of stress on it that it is designed to withstand. It’s got plenty of power when I need it but it gets relatively occasional use for short periods of time in my home shop. Plus I’m pulling a constant supply of cool air through the box with the vacuum. I’m certain it will last my lifetime as well as my that of my two sons before it burns up. And by the way I’ll qualify this by mentioning that I spent many years as the manager of a used tool shop where I bought, sold, tested and repaired used tools that had been put through every kind of abuse you could imagine. So I’m well aware of what these machines can and can’t endure.

Good job. I built a very similar box as yours under Incra table. I also put the vacuum port on the side. The issue I have is there was always some wood dust deposit at the bottom of the box. How did your box work for you? Do you need to open the door to vacuum from time to time? If I built it again, I think I would open the port under the bottom, just like Cleansweep does.

Your videos are interesting and well produced, so I subscribed. There is one thing I noticed in this video is that you coiled the spare cable for the router supply. The reason why manufacturers of coiled extension leads require the user to totally uncoil the extension lead before using is because it can heat up. The coil is essentially producing an induced magnetic field that creates heat. In a small confined space with sawdust this might be a real problem.
@weberwoodshop6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the heads up. Fortunately that box is actively air cooled since I never use the router without the dust collector attached so there will never be any heat (or dust) build up.

That small amount of dust on top of your router table could be sucked away by drilling some holes in the router plate. That would give more area for the vacuum to do its job. Or you could order clean sweep plates from incra, as I see you are using incra products now. Thanks for sharing your talents and experience.

Nice work so far Blake. Looking forward to future videos. One question, how is your miter saw dust collection run and are you happy with it? Thnx
@weberwoodshop6 жыл бұрын
The saw has a dust port that sucks right behind the blade and attaches to that shop vac below the table. That gets most of the small/dangerous particles that would otherwise go into the air. The rest of the chips are contained in that “hood” that the saw sits in and I just vacuum them up as needed. It works pretty good for now but some day I will add a dust collection system to the shop and pipe it to that hood.

Hey, great vid! I enjoy your commentary along with the background music. How is the performance within the box? The power cord for the router and the routing of the cable for the single ganger outlet made it look like a tight fit. Are you getting any impacted sawdust as a result? Would you go for a slightly larger box if you had to do it again? I’m thinking of doing the same thing with my TS extension and wondered if a larger box would be better... Thanks again! Hope there is more content coming. 👍
@weberwoodshop6 жыл бұрын
It’s interesting that you noticed and are the only one to ask... I didn’t have much space behind it due to the blade adjustment wheel on the table saw but in retrospect I could have made it a bit wider. Not really sure it matters though, it seems to work fine and I haven’t had any dust build-up.
@jimsjacob6 жыл бұрын
My extension is a tad larger, so I would have the clearance for a larger box. Of course, you could shorten that cord on the router, but then it would be solely dedicated to that task and since you are not having an issue, it would be best not to. Moot point at any rate since it’s not showing an issue. Great build sir!!

Nicely done, Blake. I've been tempted to order the Incra Clean Sweep, but... it's just a box. I've been meaning to enclose my router lift like this and a search for examples led me to your videos. The only thing I might suggest is to consider isolating the router motor's ventilation from the dust.

Hazem Bata, from what I can see is that he just has one power cord going to the wall from his entire station. The incoming power cord goes to the outlet that you see on the side of the new dust box. That is the table saw's regular power plug you see plugged into that outlet. The outlet then supplies the power (via wire routed inside dust box) to the new safety shut off switch that turns on the router. I like the idea of repurposing a heavy duty 12 gauge or better extension cord as it's more pliable that just using romex and is more durable and safe! Blake, I just found your channel last night and love it. I recently put my router table into a wing of my table saw as well and have been brainstorming a more suitable power solution. You've helped me tinker out the visuals to see it in action!
