to those complaining about the pre-recorded guitar playback to _I Miss You:_ maybe you don't know just how much WORK goes into playing guitar. and then singing WHILE playing? well, that's a whole other thing entirely. you just don't get that it takes, like, entire HOURS to learn how to play something like the (for blink-182) relatively complex rhythms of that acoustic guitar riff _while_ singing the cadence of the verses to that song. whole, entire _hours_ of work. and work _sucks._ i know. and anyway, who's got time to practice? if you're a member of Blink-182 and your name is NOT Travis, the idea of practicing for a live performance is apparently laughable at _best._ because TOM never bothered learning how to play that part, either. but at least _they_ never - at least to my knowledge - played to a frickin' backup track for a GUITAR. that'd seem absolutely sacrilegious, and basically antithetical to any possible ideals that so-called "Punk" music tried to maintain. of course THIS iteration of Blinkaline Trio never even really tried to sound Punk outside a few goofy joke songs on their just so-so _California_ record. and hey man, that's FINE. for me personally, i stopped caring about what was "Punk" and what wasn't when i was in Highschool. but there are few things colder and lamer to me than seeing a band perform live to what's probably some guy's laptop backstage. if you're gonna play live to digital playback - and _absolutely everybody_ does these days - you've GOT to _have that shit ONSTAGE._ even if it's literally a guy hitting space bar on his iMac, _have him or her onstage to do it._ because _it's part of the show,_ and even INTEGRAL to that show. Coldplay, U2, probably Imagine Dragons or whoever sometimes play along to _dozens_ of pre-recorded elements. which is fine. whatever. it's not my favorite, but what do i know. but they all apparently decide to have all that cold, digitally-precise noise simply come blaring through the P.A. system in the *exact* same manner some guy played intermediate music between sets. before the gig. it's all _The Wizard of Oz,_ and kept thoroughly behind the curtain. they don't let the audience in to experience - or even SEE - how the music they're watching is even being achieved. i've seen Coldplay *actually* sing and play along to pre-recorded vocals. the line between Live Rock Band and _Car Pool Karaoke_ continues to erode ominously. •bfeb21
